038_West Bohemian Gallery_Plzeň The new Plzen gallery building should be a landmark of the city, a real pearl and protective shell of the art works inside. We decided on “round“ architecture which suits the place very well. We took inspiration from nature, proportions of the golden section and the elegancy of egg-shaped curves. We used the Cassini curve, the ovoid case in particular. The archaeological excavation of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene is integrated into the interior and becomes the most valuable architectonic exhibit. The entrance area of the ground and first floor are public and free of charge. The new building has its own underground with archaeological excavation. Underground as a phenomenon of a medieval town. A part of the “public” area of the building is the access to the roof terrace with an installation of monumental sculptures. The gallery has five upper and two underground floors. We propose wall and concrete pole construction systems. The outer layer of the double facade is formed by square concrete glass blocks, which have a long tradition in the area. The material works as sound insulation but also scatters daylight. The two layer coat creates a light, “unfocused“ and variable image. Large windows are incorporated into the double facade serving as frames of the city view as former vistas. Light visual concrete, industrial wooden mosaic for the floors and cast concrete screed is used in the interior. The solid “materiality” creates a strong contrast to the interiors of supermarket pasteboards. The exhibition fundus is standard – modular glass showcases and mobile walls. The main part of our design is the “light plenum” which is an embedded “floor” – a cavity, which evenly spreads daylight. Light is brought in sufficient quantity and quality into the exhibition depth by reflection and refraction. Together with the double facade, well lit interiors with a stable environment are created.

034_City-development_Hradčanská The development project followed by the urban sketch of selected area of PragueHradčanská was created during the City Development workshop organized by FA CTU in Prague. The concept comes from the positioning of the lot on important traffic arteries near the residential area of Dejvice and also from the relation to the Prague Castle from which arise myriad potential needs which as yet are not met on site. We took the project to be an actual and symbolic route to the castle. A common station on site serves as a traffic junction for an underground line, high speed train from the airport, tram lines, bus lines and trains. For the local residents we propose a shopping center, which is lacking in the area, as well as new apartments. Hotels, restaurants, a business center and congress center should exist for the airport-center connection (business and tourism). Thanks to the excellent transit connections, we also propose office buildings. The hotels will offer their amenities to the public. Beneath the whole structure a car park is proposed.

033_Urban-development_Area-Bory There are some fourteen-storey housing towers from 1960s built along the ring-shaped street at the south border of Pilsen, at the point of the sharp boundary between the town and “Bory Gardens”. In spite of contemporary contempt for prefabs, we´ll try to link to the initial principle of the build-up area. We transform to the client´s plots a lay-out of housing towers turned toward the broad city gardens. The newly proposed towers don´t overreach the old ones with their height. We densify the towers with inferior houses in contrary to the original “far-between” urbanism (urban lay-out). The common “socle” serves as parking. We shift the buildings to the north edge of the site area, the south part of the parcel is proposed to become a collective garden primarily for the condominium inhabitants.

032_House-adaptation_Přelouč This project of adapting a three-floor rental apartment house in a compact city structure located near the center of the city of Přelouč. The project has two primary objectives: to reconstruct the existing rental units and to adapt unused loft space into living spaces. The design is primarily concerned with answering the fundamental question of ownership (private vs. common), both in the context of the building as well as the loft space where the installed bedrooms define the individual private space as opposed to the surrounding common areas.

030_Exhibition_Prague-Castle The exhibition project of the Imperial Stables of Prague Castle on the occasion of celebrating the 90th anniversary of the independence of Czechoslovakia. The theme of October 28th at Prague Castle is presented by means of the key years of 1918, 1928, 1938 and 1948. The development through history is presented using colorful displays and recesses; the colors representing the periods outlined by these fateful years. White represents the celebration of Czech statehood and the creation of the republic, blue represents the period of the first republic, black symbolizes the era of occupation and red the creation of communist Czechoslovakia.

029_Loft-adaptation_Smíchov The project for converting unused loft areas in Prague - Smíchov for luxury housing. The main idea could be described as a television screen to the garden. In the design we created a two-floor living television, the side facing the street will be kept in its existing form. In the apartment we reversed the order of the functions; the lower level will be left for recreation and housekeeping. The upper level has a sovereign position, both in terms of the apartment as well as the building as a whole, therefore that is where we will place the main living area with a superior view.

027_Papermill-revitalization_Plzeň The urban design study of the former papermill in Pilsen is elaborated for the present owner and serves him as a basis for “What will it be” decision making. The setting from investor is fairly free but led by the client´s effort to clarify the “maximum usage” of his plots. The terrain is situated on a river curve, particular meanders embody areas similar to the “papermill”. The EUROPAN 8 locality lies across the river. We propose two usage options: “lower” and “upper” holding the same “M2” amount. We want to interconnect the currently enclosed area with the surrounding urban structure. We preserve fine brick historical buildings with cast-iron frame structure inside and the concrete storehouse with remarkable charm as well. We link a new street grid to the current one. Newly designed buildings densify empty space to prevent thoughtless development in the neighbouring park.

023_Facade_Chrudim The project concerning the color design of house facade in the center of Chrudim. The goal is to create a solution which should promote itself as well as commercial tenants. The primary idea is to use a composition of colors from Edvard Munch’s Weeping nude. The color shades are taken from the work, and are used on the facade in the same position as on the painting. The color asymmetry allows the incorporation of the composition and color arrangements of the facades of both surrounding buildings. The red and blue shades placed adjacent each other create a more three-dimensional facade, so as to equalize the difference between the neighboring facades that are quite decorated.

021_Urban-design_Bubny The urban sketch project from the area surrounding the Bubny railway station in PragueHolešovice came about at a Dutch ladies workshop organized at the Faculty of Architecture of CTU in Prague. A component of the project is the locating of tall buildings in a defined area. The principle phenomena examined are roads and mass transit, public spaces and public greens, tall buildings and building density as well as the relationship with the surrounding structures. The design medium is a physical model of the area to a 1:2000 scale, photography and collage, public presentation and discussion with the Dutch architects “Dutch Ladies” Nathalie de Vries, Anna H.M.T. 020_Interior-design_Trója The interior design project for one part of an auto salon in Trója. The project elaborates on previous sketches of the car salon as a multifunctional structure. The project primarily consists in the creation of a central showroom and media hall. The main goal of the building is to display and sell a relatively expensive product. The interior should reflect the dynamics and clear purpose of the product. To achieve this, I used both a series of sloping columns to accentuate the dynamics and the contrast between the smooth glossy colored surfaces of cars with rough matte structures of neutral light concrete. The only color contrast, besides the cars, is the use of a distinct yellow in areas set aside for another specific function, i.e. bar and media area.

018_Office-adaptation_Pardubice The competitive design proposal for the reconstruction of a building in Pardubice. The goal is simultaneously to deal with the issues of size and composition, functional use, and the facade color of the building on Komenský Square in Pardubice, as well as the design of the area surrounding the building. The building is proposed as a government office building with various types of office spaces and areas for dealing with the public. The project removes the additions to restore the division of the building and also adapts the loft area into office spaces. The colors of the interior and exterior are subject to cleaning and lightening. When designing the public areas, the local sports traditions were taken into consideration; a basketball court for summer use and a public ice rink for hockey for the wintertime.

016_Roof-extension_Plzeň The existing office building “ÚMO 1” serves as the headquarters of the local town district. We propose a new “penthouse” extension as a lightweight wooden structure. The house will operate magisterially and civilly. The lightweight construction frame (structure) will conform to the needs of the extension of the existing object. The whole extension construction is formed by structural timbers used for both columns and beams. The transversal module “3.6 m” links to the concrete panels of the existing object. Wooden truss girders are used for the span of variable open-space in the highest storey. The facades are fully glassed-in with opening windows and exterior screenings mounted in the head. We use double floor for easy distribution installation. Minimal ceiling height in the first floor of the extension is 2.65 m and 3.0 m in the second floor to strengthen the representative impression and better backlight in variable open-space as well. Plank terrace. Compact parts of facades are in-cased by wooden boards in natural form. The first extension storey will offer approximately 480 m2 of usable office area and the second storey about 340 m2. First storey will be offered for commercial office rent, the second with the perspective on Pilsen, will be used by the municipal staff.

015_Housing_Porotherm House for an imaginary four member family on an imaginary lot. We chose a roughly 1000 m2 large area as a ”typical building ground” with an “ideal” south facing. We want to design a house with a minimal footprint and garage inside without any exterior “appendices”. In this way, to save the largest area possible for a garden, because of the fact that the garden makes a house more valuable than just a“large-size“ apartment. Outer wrap “box” of the house has an 11x11 groundplan. The interior space organization is inspired by Loos´s “Raumplan”. Particular floor levels are“shifted“. We put the accent on the neighbouring of all rooms among each other or at least to offer visual contact. We wanted thus, to allow better contact between family members. The area of the interior spaces is inscribed in facade. The construction consist of reinforced concrete slabs and and ceramic-blocks walls.

014_Leisure-time-centre The project concerning a multifunctional leisure facility in the historic core of Prague in Vrchlického sady. The aim is to locate the construction there while maintaining the extent of the current green area. The main idea of the project is the path through the park. The sidewalk which the visitor takes extends to the attractions and is at the center of the green area at the same time. The paths are carefully placed on existing routes for circuiting the park as well as passing through it; the park is entirely preserved.

S

ČESKÁ BOUDA

The Czech chalet project (dining, emergency sleeping) and cable car terminus at Sněžka mountain, the highest mountain of the Czech Republic, in the middle of a national park. The project was later developed as an implementation project. The concept draws on minimalism, both from encroachments inside the national park as well as from spatial and conceptual minimalism. The buildings of the Czech chalet and the cable car station are integrated in one structure; each space has only the necessary dimensions and serves several functions: dining-sleeping hall. The building is situated below the top of the hill on the leeward side on the site of the present terminus. It also uses the current machine, and elevates it to a working technical monument. This building strategy allows a significant increase in the operational time.

011_Fiat-lux_design The project of an interactive space developed at a workshop in Gdaňsk, Poland, for the exhibition hall Art et Liberté in Charenton-Paris, where one part of the project was later realized. The concept comes from the idea of the creation of the world. One finds oneself in a position of the creator and gets to know about the new role at the same time. Passing through the exposition is characterized by motivation, by provoking intuitive automatic reactions and understanding the role of the creator. Most importantly one should enjoy the new role through personal experiences like creating light, colors, flowers and people.

010_Info-board_design The interactive design for the subconscious transmission of current news like the weather forecast, traffic updates and research news The concept comes from the information content that is necessary for man and from how that information should take shape. All information is transmitted by sensory perception (eye-ear-touch). The information is quantified into values like small-medium-big or -1/0/1. All information can border on each other so that the form should be different: 2-lane-grid for transport, planar-grid for weather and 1-column-grid for research news.

001_Trója_housing Residential housing in Trója in the middle of Drahaň natural park on a terraced lot with a view of Prague. The project was later developed as a building-permit level project. The concept comes from the idea of taking advantage of the various levels and of the view of Prague. The house is spread perpendicularly on the terraces and is laid out lengthwise. Each part of the house enjoys a different atmosphere and takes advantage of different characteristics of the garden.
