REDEFINING THE FUTURE OF RESIDENTIAL DESIGN FEATURING A COLIVING AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT. VIA A MODULAR SHARED WORKING/LIVING SPACE IN CENTRAL LONDON.

COLLABORATIVE PROJECT.

HABITAT CO-LIVING AND WORK SPACE

In a bustling city, where the population is increasing and space is decreasing renters are looking for more than just the standard one to two bedroom apartment. There is a need for communal living or the co-living/ working spaces. Somewhat a modern day version of yesterday’s boarding house. Companies like Open Door, HubHaus, WeLive and WeWork are the current market’s monopoly with this new urban way or share public work and live spaces. Where modern renters have fewer possessions, tenants what to move into a furnished place where they can work and function.

The view from our space is an uninterrupted view of Regents Park. The Facade has multiple large windows, which will allow natural light to filter through the space.

The Space we redesigned is the mezzanine part, of the building. This large space allowed us to be creative in the way we insert or intervene with our new residential space.

Influenced by the infamous Piet Mondrian painting, our in- vented heritage focused on the symmetry and composition of the four-sided shapes. How they all fit together seamlessly creating a pattern of spaces. We came up with a simple configuration that has a set size for each required room in a livable, functional space: The bedroom, bathroom, and kitchenette.

This series of axonometric drawings show how the volume fit inside the main space. This two-story design was created to provide a division of areas within a large environment. There is a sense of hierarchy where there are elevations in the levels of space. We have designed it so that each cubed volume is a room. For instance, one volume is a bedroom, the other a bathroom, etc. We narrowed down the essential living necessities to 3 rooms: The bedroom, bathroom, and Kitchen. Since this is a work and live typology of space, there are shared spaces at the ground level allowing tenants to utilize the space as a work or relaxation area. This separates the public and private space up. By minimizing the amount of personal footprint we were able to maximize the public footprint, enlarging the communal space.
