SITE DATA Ÿ The site is located at 'Seawoods, Navi Mumbai' on the
Uran-Panvel highway.
Ÿ The site is at a lower level than the adjoining roads.
There is a level drop of approximately 1.3 to 1.5m between the site and the road.
Ÿ It can be easily accessed by road from surrounding
places and there is no bottle-neck created anywhere close. The highway is running along the longer side of the site and there is also a main road connecting the neighbourhood, located behind, with the highway on the other side.
Ÿ There is a children's park on the right and a small
hillock, named 'Parsik Hills', located across the highway on the other side which goes up to a height of 18/20 meters.
Ÿ It receives more than adequate sunlight throughout
the year since it's completely exposed to the southwest and also an uninterrupted flow of the wind for there is nothing but a vast children's playground area on the west. FIRST FLOOR PLAN

SECTION AA’ Ÿ The reception has a centralised / strategic location in order to reduce the walkable distance of the user from the activity of his
choice. Ÿ The guest accommodation faces the parsick hills side in order to get the best possible view. Also the football field and lawn are placed along the accommodation to facilitate an uninterrupted flow of wind and light. Ÿ The swimming pool area enjoys a more private location in order to maintain the privacy of the guests as well as the wet section gets cut off from the dry areas. Ÿ The fine dining space is adjacent to the reception in order to function outside the working hours of the sports activities.

Ÿ The strong lines and concrete finishes are used to represent the strength and stability. Ÿ The orientation and the placements of different blocks of the structure are done mostly
depending upon the environmental factors. Ÿ Since the site is strongly exposed to the south and south-west, the cluster of built-up spaces faces direct sunlight throughout the major part of the year and a steady windflow from the west as well. Ÿ Instead of relying completely on the mechanical ventilation the sports centre is designed in a way to reduce the overall energy consumption to an extent. Ÿ Tall concrete fins are provided for most of the exposed walls to prevent the building blocks from heating up excessively and at the same time letting the wind enter the blocks uninterrupted.
Ÿ To make the fins efficient furthermore they are partly covered in lining creepers so that
went the wind passes through them it reduces the heat content substantially before entering the building Ÿ To reduce the dependency on artificial light as much as possible the building blocks are fitted with ceiling screens in many places, which will cut down the heat content drastically and only let the filtered light in. Ÿ The ceiling screens are made up of thin galvanized steel sheets so that they are lightweight, which is easy to install and thus offering much structural flexibility like higher depth for screening etc.

PROJECT : CENTRE FOR CONTEMPORARY ARTS LOCATION : MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRA AREA : 25,000 SQ.M The city of Mumbai is home to hundreds of successful yet diversified genres of art and art related activities. The city, that is known for its profound contribution towards the steady economy of the country, can also be credited for supporting the ever changing art scenario in the region for a very long time. Although, it has survived through many economical turbulences, social reforms, political dictatorships or the hypocrisy of moral policing and the celebration of mediocrity in the country, the art scenario as a whole has not achieved the level of excellency yet [or should we say, it was never given a chance to!] that it was supposed to. Seemingly, the need for a single unified space, capable of housing almost all sorts of arts, is quite evident considering the various tangible (and intangible) parameters accountable for slowing down the progress of 'the diversified Arts' in the city. Especially, keeping in mind, how extensively some of the art forms, like mix media art or experimental art, are suffering despite having tremendous potential to flourish. And the nonexistence of a structured network or organisation to curate the varying types of Art at the moment is working against the reputation of 'the Arts' as a whole. Guided by these facts, it would be quite safe to suggest that the city is more than prepared to accommodate an arts centre that will give a common platform to everything related to the arts which will eventually raise the standard of 'how we approach the arts' holistically. It would be an abode to the Contemporary art (including experimental art, digital art, mixed-media art etc.) along with the conventional styles of visual and performing arts in different categories like Modern art, Arts & Crafts, Graphical art, theatre and musical performance etc. that will push the boundaries of conventional and rational thinking in term of creation and appreciation of artworks. Each kind of artwork will have specific or customized galleries, exhibition areas, workshop areas, performing areas and studios depending upon the occasion and purpose of the exhibition/performance (or both) as deemed necessary. There will also be scopes for interdisciplinary workshops or shows as well along with dedicated curating services based on its legitimacy. On a broader scale it will be a space that will bring together people from different walks of life. It could be an innovative, educational platform which will actively encourage professionals, theoretical philosophers, innovators, teachers and businessmen/ industrialists alike to engage in a dynamic system of sharing ideas, the development and application of the these ideas with the students, young artists or any bright mind with a fresh perspective. Participants, ranging from a common man to a learned person or from a novice to a scholar, can get involved through exhibition works, workshops, seminars and interactive sessions/discussions. The institution is to become a cutting edge, state-of-the-art research centre offering innovative services to implement and support advanced technology in a highly digital and computational way of designing, sculpting and putting up installations.

LILAVATI HOSPITAL JUNCTION
S Location: Connectivity- The site is located at Bandra reclamation, right at the end of Bandra-Worli sea link on the way to enter the suburbs from the island city. It can also be accessed easily from the eastern/ central suburbs via the western express highway It is located very close to the sea and therefore it has a proximity to the promenade and naturally it can be accessed easily by the people even from the promenade pathways(proposed) around does not create any bottleneck anywhere.
AERIAL VIREW
W Ÿ The proximity to the sea makes the construction
works harder at the site
Ÿ The level difference between the site and the
highway will block the view partially from the built structure
Ÿ Since the structure is completely exposed to the
south and west it will get uninterrupted direct sunlight throughout the day which, in turn, will heat up the building
PROPOSED ROAD
SITE SECTION
O Ÿ The location of the site is right next to the highway,
making it a landmark, hard to miss for the oncoming traffic from the sea link
Ÿ Because of the location of the site, it's possible to
provide multiple entry/ exit points near the site for both the people and the vehicles to ease the flow of traffic while entering the museum premises
Ÿ The absence of any other tall structures/
obstacles in the vicinity ( except for the back) will help the structure turn into a landmark at the entrance to the suburbs
T Due to proximity to the sea, the underground multilevel basement parking might be at risk
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
20 PROGRESSIVE MASSING: STAGE 1
Ÿ Initial massing with a composition of various rectilinear
blocks placed along the major axis
The idea started taking shape with an attempt to synchronize the site with the surrounding area, specially the highway and the site. The site, which is almost rectilinear in shape, is spread along the highway on the way to Bandra-Worli sea-link. The idea was to design a superstructure that would represent the iconic nature of the proposed 'centre for the contemporary art' and also incorporate and utilise the surrounding ambience by aligning itself with the flow of existing movements.
Ÿ
Understanding the profile of the site and direction of the projectiles
Ÿ Creating an intersection of open space with the built form
PROGRESSIVE MASSING: STAGE 2 Ÿ Gradual development into a more refined shape, calculated
volume based design from a basic composition consisting of rectangles only
Ÿ Priority is given to ensure that the structure can be
approached from any side and without compromising on its alluring artistry and distinct appeal
PROGRESSIVE MASSING: STAGE 3
Ÿ More Refining: addition of complementing aesthetic
· Trying to establish the sync between the direction of movement and the alignment of the structure along with complementing straight lines and meandering curves. · Introduction of movement in the design, to initiate a sense of activity and to representation of the multidirectional progress in stages
elements, detailing of the external facade Ÿ Landscaping and creation of artificial contour with slopes, multiple amphitheatres etc
PROGRESSIVE MASSING: STAGE 4
Ÿ Final massing post trial and errors Ÿ Excluding cut outs on the wall and elevation treatment

PROJECT : TAPAS UDYAN LOCATION : GIFT CITY, GUJRAT AREA : 1,60,000 SQ.M GIFT City is a Central business district lying in between the cities of Ahemdabad and Gandhinagar. The circle is essentially a round about within the CBD and a strategic location for a green zone. The design is a preliminary proposal for the same. The design follows a meandering theme with its pathways drawing focus towards the central lake at the same time creating various plantation zones in between them. The park is ideal for recreation and a much required relaxant in midst of the high momentum business district. The park is versatile in nature and caters to all age groups at the same time facilitates sports and other supplementary activities.

PROJECT : LIGHTHOUSE SEA HOTEL YOUNG ARCHITECT’S COMPETITION LOCATION : SYRACUSE – SICILY, ITALY AREA : 3.000 SQ.M PROJECT BRIEF Like several other international projects (the Australian, Northern Europe or Balkan lighthouse accomodation), the competition will focus on the extraordinary reception potential that a coastal building can offer. Trough Lighthouse Sea Hotel, the designers will have the possibility to work in a sublime context, while designing the project of a unparalleled hotel. In this building, the lighthouse, with its romantic and dreamlike characteristics, will be the background to create suggestive relax, entertainment and wellness stays. A shelter, an escape place, a delightful picturesque place. The designers will have the op- portunity to give different interpretations of the accomodation. It can target a niche or the wider public based on adventure and nature. With this in mind, hereby follows a list of different functional possibilities. It is important to underline that the composition, integration and reshuffling of these scenarios shall be under total discretion of the designers.

We decided to look at the nature of the local Tuffstone. The spatial structure emerged from the manner in which particles have over time compacted to form the intricate network of the stone’s inner structure. For us this Lighthouse is a part of a larger network that binds trade, culture and geology. The spatial structure thus came about to represent this intricate web - yet open and fluid enough to accept transformations. The buildings thus evolve as these independent volumes bound by this intricate web. Passageways form an interconnect between Plinth and Podium. All buildings hover above the ground We did not want to touch the ground All buildings thus impact the ground lightly and only at the foundations. Everywhere the Lighthouse becomes an orientation device. The buildings form a long low line around the Lighthouse, swarming around it in a conscious embrace.
