It creates space for scientists and artists to interchange their knowledge. Production of this collaboration diffuses the public constantly, and promotes and shares knowledge. Thus, knowledge operated in Hybrid Lab naturally becomes a part of the campus daily life. Scientists are most interested in the application of the relationship between the material and idea while artists are working at the philosophical, representational and interpretational levels. On the other hand, art and science based on the process of imagination. Artists and scientists take advantage of each other during the production of their work. The technologies developed by scientists utilize by artists. They discover new interpretational techniques. They even give rise to new technological and scientific approaches. Hybrid lab offers diverse informal ambiances to enhances creativity and creates a bridge between science, art, and public.

Nowadays, the field of architecture is strongly oriented towards dealing with the fabrics of existing buildings. In urban settings buildings are reaching their lifespan and / or their previously assigned function has lost its importance in our ever evolving society. Architects are increasingly working on re-thinking, transforming, repurposing and expanding structures and reactivating them and their historic importance. The topic of this Master Thesis deals with the potential of the Stadtbad Lichtenberg (a.k.a. Hubertusbad) in Berlin, Lichtenberg, which has been closed since 1991 to the public due to technical issues. Its function as a public bath, which arose from society’s needs in its time, has partly lost its importance in today’s lifestyle. The following project reflects on the existing fabrics of the building in order to revitalize the Hubertusbad and activate it as a public space once more. The former function of the building is taken up in a more contemporary way and the structure is expanded to a multifunction complex by adding a residential concept, based on a research on the current needs of the area. Based on the public opinion gathered from the conducted online survey, the project will focus on transforming the Hubertusbad into a multifunctional complex, which includes a public and a residential function. The core public functions are going to be a swimming and a wellness department, which revive in a new way the former use of the building. For the residential use – a co-living typology will be integrated with private units and common spaces. The challenge of the project was bringing this two types of functions together – public and residential. The solution was to develop a layer of curtain functions that come in between. This layer unites the two types of functions and simultaneously creates a smooth transition between both. In the following work it is called the transition filter.

When trying to distribute these old and improved and new functions in the existing building we concentrated on some aspects. Activating new flows and the front plaza of the building which is currently unaccessible. And also preserving the public nature of the building to the outside.

RATHAUS-CENTER LUDWIGSHAFEN Key words: grid, remodelling existing, fragmentation, green carpet, extension Located just a brief walk away from the Rhine river and jammed between numerous infrastructures, the Rathaus-Center in Ludwigshafen is a building to remember. It can be perceived in numerous ways from a massive vertical statue sitting on a monolithic plinth, to even an enclosed spaceship that has just landed in the middle of Ludwigshafen. It’s scale ungraspable to a human being. While its exterior perceptions can be argued for better-or-worst, we consider some of the principles of design ideas as the undoubtable let-downs of the building at present. We consider these principles as the inability: to bring light to the potentials of the ground floor, to create permeability, to make use of the roof as an extension of the public realm, to create diverse spaces and atmospheres with visual connections in-between levels, to use structure as a guiding principle and to ultimately sustain the building itself. We challenge these elements in our design through remodelling this massive structure while introducing a new concept to it: a green carpet, nature reclaiming the structure. With carefully selected demolitions and extractions - the building becomes fragmented and freed from its scale - becoming permeable and for the first time bringing generous light to the ground floor. The result is the excavation of the hidden ‘grid’ structure. We use this exposure to light as an opportunity to allow greenery, plants, grass, water and trees to take over the decaying grid at its base while also drawing the public to this new landscape. By carving paths with the extension of the public realm at first floor level in forms of streets, squares and voids between broken masses as well as creating promenades on the ground floor, we have created two primary routes for people to linger in. Once the ground carpet is overgrown within the perimeters of the existing, it begins to take over and extends into its surroundings by utilising the logic of the grid while creating a new link to the north, cutting a path above the unpleasant traffic.

Ceative rather than contemplative perseption of knowledge. With the globalization process, there is a depletion of cultural identity. This means that more and more practical knowledge is dying out and ending up in museums. If knowledge were transmitted not only through observation through glass, cultural techniques and practices could get a new life in the modern world. Our concept is based on the principle of the interconnection of the processes of creation and embodiment, in architecture, this is reflected through the formation of workshops and forums as a sceleton and perimeter exposition, which serves as a connector between the production process and public. The architecture reflects what is happening inside. Sometimes it can be a closed space where processes can be observed through transparent walls, sometimes it can be an open permeable space. The knowledge cloud is a living organism that reacts to what is happening inside and outside. This is the concentration of ideas and the factory for their implementation. This is an opportunity to touch the inaccessible and perceive information with all senses.

SLEEPING BEAUTY Community In a university environment, every student has his own needs, traditions and culture. However, we all have the same origin. The cave was the first place, a human being used for his accommodation and further survival from extreme weather conditions and exposure to wild animals. A cave could not only be considered as a house, but also as a small community. Journey The lounge is actually a spiritual journey, where anyone can follow his own unique path. A journey full with places to exchange ideas and thoughts and also to take his time and meditate, leaving the noises of the public behind. More than that, one is free to occupy the place and still be respectful to the rest of the actors inside. It is a place, where one can take his time to answer his questions and also give answers.

The Venetian state plans to transform the island of Poveglia into a University Campus serving the educational needs in the Venetial Lagoon. By combining the existing buildings on site with the functional flexibility of the Rolex Centre, we provide the program needed for that transformation at the same time blending old with the new in harmonious co-existence. The typological transformation studied in this context is the geometrical response of inner courtyards to the specific form and position of already existing buildings.

Phoenix island by MAD architects is located in the center of sanya city, hainan province, china. it is a man-made island surrounded by the sea. the dimension of phoenix island is about 1250-meters long and 350-meter wide, connected by a bridge of 395-meter with the main island of sanya. the site area is about 365,000 sqm and will represent the future of sanya as the international touring and resorts city. the island itself is a vacation land consisting a 7-star hotel, 5 boutique apartments, yacht clubhouse, shopping streets and a habour for internaitonal passenger liners. the total building area of the phoenix island is about 500,000 sqm. construction work is due to finish in 2014. In turn, one of the towers designed by Mad Architects was handed over to the APCE group for redesign. The main goal was to create a more cost-effective space, increase the number of hotel rooms, redo the entrance lobby and associated public areas.

The Netherlands Embassy is a disciplined cube with equally disciplined irregularities which aims to facilitate a better understanding of Berlin, confronting divergent ideas about how the city, with its complexity, heaviness, opacity, and beauty, should build / rebuild. Traditional planning guidelines of the former West Berlin demanded that new buildings in the neighbourhood (the Roldandufer in Mitte) reflect the local 19th century architectural style. Planning officials in the former East Berlin were more open to innovation. As a result, OMA combined an obedient approach (strictly fulfilling the block’s perimeter) with a disobedient one (building an isolated cube). The aim of this course was to create a theoretical model of the building. A theoretical model does not mean an architectural model, but nevertheless a volumetric model that reflects the essence of the idea, which was embodied in a real architectural form.
