About Dew More Baltimore Dew More Baltimore is a community-based-organization dedicated to using art and community organizing as tools to increase community engagement in the greater Baltimore Community. We exist to address apathy in marginalized communities. We are supported by community members, educators, artists and people like you who believe in the power of community and the importance of youth voice.

About MICA's Center for Art Education

About MICA's Graphic Design department

The MA in Teaching with Certification (MAT) program is a full-time graduate program designed for graduate students who want to teach visual arts in preK-12 school settings after graduation. We believe that practicing artist/ researchers who value the journey more than the destination make the best teachers. Students explore curriculum as a verb that is emergent and student-centered incorporating holistic practices with critical theory and social justice.

Consistently ranked as a top design program, MICA defines graphic design broadly. Students explore design’s potential to engage audiences through wellcrafted communications. We value diverse approaches to thinking and making design. Learn more at micagraphicdesign.org.

BALTIMORE ART RISING

This book represents an inspired collaboration between seemingly unlikely partners: art education graduate students, high school spoken word poets, and beginning graphic design college students. What we all have in common is a desire to effectively communicate our thoughts about the world and our experiences within it. We are all excited to share with you the end result, a compilation of efforts sent by those who believe that art and design can change the fabric of Baltimore.

A city in chaos gave us a day off And now because of all the violence people had to get laid off Cause your own black community Thought that it had immunity They should have thought about it before they started a unity All that looting and shooting was stupid you’re stooped in Below the level of ignorance making us look ridiculous R.I.P. to Freddie Gray It’s sad to see he died that way He died with a severed spine I wonder why them cops are lying They left his family in tears, he died at only 25 You ask me if I feel safe I’d be lying if I said yes cause they really do put the crook in crooked cop now the only question is how many more of us going to drop like dropped tears before it all stops

MIGHT NEED AN EMT FOR YOUR BEAUTY IS ALL I SEE. THEY SAY: "OH, YOU'RE A POET? I DIDN'T KNOW IT...” I’M DIVERSE. IF YOU SAY WE ARE TO PLUNGE INTO HELL, I SHALL TELL YOU DO DIVE FIRST...I'M USUALLY A RAPPER, BUT THIS MESSAGE IS DEEPER THAN WHAT IM USUALLY AFTER. THIS SHOULD NOT BE RESPONDED TO WITH LAUGHTER… BUT WITH AN OPEN HEART. BECAUSE WITH AN OPEN HEART, A NEW JOURNEY CAN START...A NEW BEGINNING, INSTEAD OF A TERRIBLE ENDING.

Flowers for Flaws

Flowers for flaws, hours of loss. Sometimes you just have to take a pause. An angel from the God that died on a cross... Beautiful creation, I can tell you're a boss. Words spoken by me, into this m-i-c, as I c-o-m... m-e-n-t on society's monstrosity. But I might need an EMT for your beauty is all I see. They say: "Oh, you're a poet? I didn't know it... I’m diverse. If you say we are to plunge into hell, I shall tell you do dive first... I'm usually a rapper, but this message is deeper than what im usually after. This should not be responded to with laughter... But with an open heart. Because with an open heart, a new journey can start... A new beginning, instead of a terrible ending.

My name is Ryan Ellison. I love to write. Also, I am very outgoing/down to earth.

Love and Death

Love Loving someone is like one of your biggest highlights When you’re in love with someone it feels like everything around you is so bright Even at night it seems like the sky is bright And full of life from the thought of you And your lover gazing up at the moonlight Love is like a drug because it keeps you high And needing more of it like you just took a puff Of that good stuff and launched up into orbit When you’re in love with someone it feels like god just opened up the gates of heaven Cause love is like your first breath You’ll never forget it But be careful what you wish for because love is like a spell And if you’re not careful love will quickly turn into hell Death Love is like death because you’re both considered tortured But still very different because your feelings are leaving you on the opposite border Life is like a gift that can be taken away Death is just death it’s something that happens everyday
