Mission The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission exists to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of the district through the development of recreation programs that promote a lifestyle of wellness, physical activities and cultural experiences for all ages. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Recreation District The Irmo Chapin Recreation District was formed in 1969 to serve community members living in the Lexington County portion of School District Five. ICRC has earned a reputation for program and facility excellence and has attracted participants from surrounding counties. Because their tax dollars support recreation services, ICRC district residents receive discounted rates for programs and facility rentals (excluding Saluda Shoals Park) upon proof of residency. New customers should call the park during business hours to establish an account before registering online. Registration is also accepted at each of the parks or by phone. Registration is confirmed upon payment. Because many classes fill up quickly, register one week before the class date so we can make class enrollment decisions. We will accept registration as long as there is space available. Fees: Activity and event fees in this guide are subject to change without notice, prior to registration. Weather: Many of ICRC’s activities are held in venues that make

them tentative based on weather conditions. Participants are responsible for checking to see if games have been cancelled, delayed, or rescheduled. ICRC ID Policy: Visitors to Crooked Creek and Seven Oaks Parks are required to present an ICRC ID with associated fees for admission to open gym, fitness and weight areas, racquetball courts, walking/running track and other unsupervised areas. Anyone age 6 and older must have a valid ICRC ID for admission. ID cards are valid for one year. Cancellation/Refund Policy: Refund requests must be received in writing no later than three days prior to the start of the program. A $5 service fee is charged. No refunds or transfers will be made once the activity has begun and certain activities, such as trips and special events, define a date after which no refunds will be made. Please check individual program requirements for guidelines. Full refunds/credits will be given if the program is cancelled by ICRC. Physical Requirements: Unless otherwise stated, activities

are open to beginners and do not require previous experience. Average physical condition is all that is needed for most programs. Please call for information about accessibility or concerns about physical ability required for participation.

Assumption of Risk: All activities, including those offered  

by ICRC, have inherent risks which include personal injury or property loss. Prior to participation, you will be required to sign a form which acknowledges your understanding and acceptance of these risks. Parents or guardians must sign for youth ages 17 and under. Ultimately, you are responsible for your own safety, and you may choose to withdraw from an activity at any time you feel your safety is a concern.

Exit Piney Grove Road and turn left. Proceed approximately 1.5 miles to St. Andrews Road. Turn right, then left at the first traffic light. Saluda Shoals Park will be 1.5 miles on your left. Meeting Facilities The Environmental Education Center The Environmental Center features a 100-seat auditorium, two classrooms/meeting rooms, an Exhibit Hall and a 3,776 Sq. Ft. deck. Picnic shelter rentals are also available. Picnic Shelters Saluda Shoals Park also offers six shelters that accommodate 24 to 250 people. Shelters are available for rent from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Shelters are equipped with lights, fans and grills. Parking is available at each shelter, restrooms are nearby and all are connected to the Greenway Trail and other walking trails. The two largest shelters, Cattail and River Birch, each accommodate 250 guests. The River Birch shelter is located near the beautiful Saluda River and the Cattail Shelter is directly off the boardwalk in the Saluda Shoals Wetland Preserve. Call 213-2053 for reservations.

River Center The River Center is a versatile, full-service conference center offering over 5,000 Sq. Ft. of meeting space. With its soaring two-story lobby, stone fireplaces, and bright spacious meeting rooms, the River Center can accommodate both small and large business meetings and social functions. A wedding gazebo is available for outdoor weddings. Call Jason White at 213-2026 for reservations and information. Real Team Challenge Course Bring your team to Saluda Shoals Park for a unique and effective team building experience. The Real Team Challenge course, for adults 18 years and older, is a series of challenging but achievable mental and physical activities designed to improve the performance of your group. All challenges are lead by our trained, professional staff. Healthy outdoor recreation, team building and fun are key components of the Challenge Course Program. For more information, call Alex Beck at 213-2054. The Saluda Shoals Park Train The SSP train is available for a two-hour rental to bring excitement to your event or child’s birthday party. Both adults and children can ride along selected trails through beautiful Saluda Shoals Park in the brightly painted train! Capacity 20 riders. Call 213-2053 to reserve the train for your next party. Fee: $144/2 hours. Pony Parties Arrange for a pony to be at your child’s next event! Our experienced equestrian provider will bring a pony to the park for an hour of assisted walking time. Meals are delivered by Crooked Creek Park and Seven Oaks Park volunteers by 1:00 p.m. Monday–Friday. Nutrition Sites A hot nutritious meal and social or physical activity is provided for older adults Monday – Friday at Crooked Creek and Seven Oaks Parks from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Physical Chairapy Sit down and enjoy a great workout. This class is offered at both nutrition sites twice weekly. Transportation Transportation to nutrition sites, medical facilities, and other necessary appointments is available to older adults in our service area based on identified needs. Loan Closet The Ruth Browne Memorial Loan Closet loans wheelchairs, walkers, and other durable medical equipment to older adults on a short-term basis. Donations of durable medical equipment are welcome at both Seven Oaks Park and Crooked Creek Park. Case Management Caseworkers are available at both Crooked Creek Park and Seven Oaks Park to help older adults and their families identify needs and interests. Our caseworkers will assist them in gaining access to programs, services, or benefits needed. Competition Bridge, Duplicate Bridge, Bingo, Pinochle, and Canasta Seven Oaks Park. Pinochle Come join the Pinochle group at Crooked Creek Park. A current level of knowledge is not required. Exercise Classes Senior Fitness classes are available at Seven Oaks Park and Crooked Creek Park. Seven Oaks Park also offers Senior Yoga, Be Fit-Stay Fit, and Senior Fitness II (for individuals who have physical limitations that may impair balance or movement). Project LOVE Project LOVE is looking for volunteers to spend about one hour per week with fourth-grade students at Chapin Elementary sharing their hobbies, interests, and/or stories. Project LOVE runs through late April. Senior Sweethearts Luncheon Come enjoy the fun, food and fellowship at our annual Valentine's Day celebration on Thursday, February 14 from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. at Crooked Creek Park. Special entertainment is planned. Bring yourself, bring a friend, or even bring your sweetheart – all are invited to join in on the fun! Please bring a dessert or fresh fruit to share. George Bryan 55+ Golf Lessons Golf is a low impact sport, making it a great way to get active and re-energize a fatigued body. Our 55 and Over Golf Class is a 6 week program designed to study the entire game of golf. There is also emphasis on flexibility, conditioning, and nutrition. The facilities, curriculum, technology, and passion for players to learn golf ensures progress at the fastest possible rate. Golf has also been shown to increase life expectancy. Novice/Intermediate classes are for the new and intermediate skilled players. Advanced/Expert classes are available for players with experienced to advanced skill levels. Classes are held at the George Bryan Golf Academy Training Center. AKTION Club AKTION Club is a community service group for young adults with special needs. The club’s mission is to provide participants with an opportunity to develop leadership skills and serve their community. AKTION club meets the second Monday of each month at Seven Oaks Park at 6:00 p.m. and is sponsored by the St. Andrews Kiwanis Club. TNT Club - Try New Things The TNT Club is designed for participants with special needs to try something new in a fun-filled adventure. The TNT Club will travel to the Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville, NC. We will tour the facility featuring over 25 different species of raptors and see a "flight show". A Night at the Theatre Young adults with special needs are invited to join us for dinner at Grouchos followed by a performance of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at the Harbison Theatre. The performance and dinner are included in the fee. Please bring money if you wish to purchase snacks at the theatre. The Sweet Life If you have a sweet tooth and enjoy desserts, come with us as we visit a variety of sweet shops in the Columbia area. The Sweet Life is a program designed for young adults with disabilities to get together with their peers and enjoy a dessert. After the sweet shop stop, then we will take a leisurely stroll. The cost of the program includes transportation, cost of dessert and drink. In February, we are off to the Sandhills Mall for some Yogen Fruz. Team Adventure This exciting alternative to team building programs gives teams everything they need to navigate their way around the park, completing different objectives as they go. Scout Camping Scout groups are invited to camp overnight at Saluda Shoals Park. Environmental Education School Programs The Environmental Education Center at Saluda Shoals Park provides educational programs for all grade levels. The programs have three components: 1) a classroom or outdoor laboratory lesson to establish the principle; 2) an interactive component including a visit to the Exhibit Hall or net dipping and specimen collecting for the Wetland Preserve Programs 3) “immersion learning” nature walk to a specific habitat All programs include pre-visit and post-visit activity sheets to help teachers prepare for the unit lessons. Each classroom holds up to 25 children. Teachers must be with the class. Additional chaperones are welcome. Arrangements can be made for schools bringing more than fifty students. NEW! Challenge Course Adventures for School Groups Teachers are thrilled about our new conservation problem solving program. Bring your school group out to the park to experience the excitement that happens on the Real Team Challenge course. This program is designed for 5th– 12th grade students. All challenges are led by trained, professional staff. In this highly interactive program, Environmental Science concepts and problem solving will be played out on the Challenge Course elements. The program concludes with conservation messages and discussions relating to the activities. Interpretive Saluda River Canoe Trip Fifth–Twelfth Grade. Explore the “shoals” and understand the unique habitat they form. Paddle across the “Fall Line” and learn the geologic importance of this area. Learn the basics of canoeing and river navigation. Dance Night Come out and dance with your friends to hits played by our DJ! Win door prizes and have lots of fun. Dances are for 6th grade Crossroads Middle School students only and have adult supervision. All music is screened for appropriateness. A dance contract must be completed and signed by each parent and student. Official ID's are necessary to get into the dance and are made any day except on dance days. Willy Wonka Jr. This scrumdidilyumptious musical is guaranteed to delight everyone's sweet tooth. Willy Wonka, owner of a magical and mysterious chocolate factory, invites the audience to join him in a world of "Pure Imagination." Although Wonka excels at making candy, he is ready to retire and find some “bright spark” to continue his candy confectioning. Wonka stages a contest by hiding five golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory--or suffer the consequences. All performances will be held at Harbison Theatre at Midland Technical College. Tickets can purchased over the phone by calling Crooked Creek Park at 345-6181, and they can be purchased one hour before each show at the theatre box office.
