STARGAZERS RETREAT Nestled amidst the rugged Tankwa Padstal, Stargazers Retreat is an oasis that embraces the vast expanse of the Karroo. This visionary project seamlessly blends brutalist architecture with the oasis concept, offering an urban escape to the desert’s tranquil night sky. Throughout the retreat, water’s life-affirming embrace is woven into the design, gracing interior courtyards and reflective pools that resonate with the desert’s enduring heartbeat.

Residential Lodge Tankwa Karoo 2023
An oasis nestled within the rugged Tankwa Padstal embraces the Karroo. This visionary project seamlessly melds brutalist architecture with the oasis concept, offering an urban escape to the desert’s serene night sky. Water’s life-affirming embrace is woven throughout, adorning interior courtyards and reflective pools that echo the desert’s resilient heartbeat. Purposeful stargazing platforms frame a celestial migration, inviting a departure from the city lights to the Karoo’s profound night sky. “STARGAZERS RETREAT” uniquely honours Khoisan astrology, celebrating indigenous wisdom through culturally enriched spaces that foster connection and understanding. This is more than architecture; it’s a journey—a transformative retreat that harmonises the modern world with Khoisan heritage and invites you to rediscover the universe’s forgotten whispers beneath the brilliant expanse of stars.

SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED A kitchen that pays homage to James Bond’s signature drink, the martini. The kitchen features a sleek and stylish bar, a shaker-shaped island, and a martini glass chandelier. The color scheme is black and white, with a touch of silver and green.

Residentail Kitchen Design 2022
The design aims to create an immersive cinematic experience for the client, who enjoys old-school movies and modern technology. The space is designed to entertain guests with a mobile drink bar, a home projector, and a mobile drink bar for their Bond experience. The matte black cabinets and black marble provide elegance and remove any distractions from the big screen experience. The push-to-open system uses drawers to keep the space sleek and adds a futuristic motion. Undercounter lighting illuminates the worksurface and showcases the countertop and mixer. The stove placement allows for communication between the user and the guest, enhancing the overall dining experience. The kitchen is transformed into a perfect zone for entertaining and wowing guests, with matte black cabinets and black marble enhancing the space’s elegance. The push-to-open system adds a futuristic motion and keeps the space sleek.

Notes: All dimensions are in millimeters Note, that to get the parts a silicone rubber mold will be required in order to mold with the bio-materials

The project aims to explore retail design and how stores are designed. We were challenged to reimagine the Split Milk Social Cafe as a retail store, using a sustainable brand to showcase this transformation. We chose Affends, an Australian-based brand that aligns with Melville’s vibrant skating and thrift culture.

It may serve as the focal point of an installation project, manifesting as a large-scale rendition of the form. Alternatively, it can be adapted into a refined wall lamp or lantern, achieved through the crafting of a smaller-scale iteration with the incorporation of a light source
This experimental pavilion, a synthesis of visionary design and Rhino Grasshopper’s computational finesse, embodies the graceful dance of magnetic lines. Through meticulous parametric modelling, a harmonious fusion of form and function emerges, defying convention and inviting contemplation. This architectural marvel stands as a testament to the transformative potential of marrying visionary concepts with cutting-edge technology, offering a spatial narrative that seamlessly integrates with its environment.
