EVEN MORE CHANCES TO APPLY FOR GRANTS THROUGH COUNCIL There are now even more chances for community groups and organisations to apply for Major Grants through Isaac Regional Council’s Community Grants program. Mayor Anne Baker said Council’s Community Grants Program supports community events and activities, helping to develop resilient, adaptive and vibrant communities. “Local community groups and organisations now have four opportunities to apply for major grants a year, up from three in 2020/2021,” Mayor Baker said. “We hope the more frequent grant rounds will help to re-activate communities after many events had a temporary hiatus during COVID-19 restrictions and allow more opportunities for Council to provide assistance to local organisations. “Many of these organisations rely on volunteers and ongoing community support to deliver events and activities for the enjoyment of residents and visitors, and are vital to the social,

sporting and cultural fabric of the Isaac region.” Mayor Baker said while the changes to grant rounds only applies to major grants for funding of $1,000 to $5,000, minor grant applications are still accepted all year round. “The organisations that put together some great events and activities are another example of the pure people power which drives our local communities and make the Isaac such a great place to live.” Applicants are required to head to https:// speakup.isaac.qld.gov.au and read the Isaac Community Grants Guidelines before proceeding with their application through the following categories: • Minor or Major Grants – for community events and activities including exceptional circumstances for out of round applications • Individual or Team Development Grants • School Bursaries

MAYOR ANNE BAKER WELCOMES WORKS FOR QUEENSLAND FUNDING Recreational facilities in Carmila, Clermont, Dysart and Moranbah will benefit from a total of $1.59 million thanks to the Queensland Government. Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker welcomed the announcement which will help upgrade vital recreational spaces that benefit Isaac communities. “This $1.59 million injection of Works for Queensland program funding allocation for the Isaac region from the Queensland Government is very much welcomed,” she said. “A total of $1.2 million in the replacement of the Greg Cruickshank Aquatic Centre water park and toddler’s pool. “It will also see $355,200 be used to upgrade disability access, lighting and carpark resurfacing at the Dysart Civic Centre and to upgrade the Clermont Civic Centre courtyard. A total of $34,800 will be spent to renew the Carmila Beach water tank.” Isaac Regional Council will receive $1.59 million from the $15.42 million pie allocated to Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday local government areas. Deputy Premier and Minster for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government
and Planning Steven Miles said the projects will have a positive impact across regional Queensland. “The enormously successful Works for Queensland program is designed to help our regional councils deliver infrastructure that will not only create jobs but will also improve liveability in towns and cities outside the south east corner,” Mr Miles said. “This round of Works for Queensland will help deliver 333 projects, which the councils estimate will create or support more than 3,600 jobs where they are needed most. This is part of Queensland’s plan for economic recovery.” The Works for Queensland program supports regional councils to undertake job-creating maintenance and minor infrastructure projects such as parks and playgrounds, community and sports facilities, swimming pools and water play areas, renewable energy initiatives, footpaths, roads and water infrastructure. The eligible councils have been allocated $800 million through the first four rounds of the program, with a further $200 million committed for 2024-27.
CLERMONT SEWER MANHOLE REHABILITATION WORKS Isaac Regional Council wishes to advise Clermont residents of sewer network relining works, which are due to commence: Clermont: Monday, 17 May till late June 6.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 4pm Saturday Weather permitting The project is being completed by contractors Relining Solutions Pty Ltd to undertake structural relining of the buried sewer pipelines within the two townships. The works are expected to be completed in late June 2021. To undertake these essential works the contractor will need to access sewer pipelines and sewer manholes, some of which are within private property. WHAT ARE WE DOING? Council has engaged contractors Relining Solutions Pty Ltd to undertake the project which will rehabilitate the sewer gravity mains to service the area by structurally relining the interior of the pipelines and greatly extending their service life. The works will be completed in stages and include the pre-cleaning and CCTV investigation of the underground pipelines, followed by structural relining of portions of the sewer gravity network using PVC relining materials. The works will occur within the urban areas, including within residential and commercial properties and will require access to private properties to access the existing pipe and manhole network. Affected property occupants will be given prior written notification.
WHEN IS IT HAPPENING? The works are scheduled to commence in Middlemount initially in May and commence in Clermont during April, with works expected to continue through to June 2021. WHAT TO EXPECT Council will be working closely with our contractors to minimise any impacts of this work on your daily routine. The sewer network will be rehabilitated by inserting new liners through existing manholes. Excavation or disruption of your sewerage service will not be necessary in the majority of cases. During this time, residents may experience an increase in noise and vehicle movement. The Contractor will ensure appropriate safety, noise and environmental controls are in place at all times, and will endeavour to minimise any impact to the local community. There should be no disruption to your water and wastewater services. REPORT A PROBLEM We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding as this important work is carried out to improve existing Council assets. If there are any concerns please call Council on 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227) so that it can be investigated and resolved.
