ISAAC REGIONAL COUNCIL’S 2021 COMMUNITY SATISFACTION SURVEY Taverner Research Group will be undertaking Isaac Regional Council’s bi-annual Community Satisfaction Survey from Monday, 25 October 2021. The survey captures sentiment in relation to Council’s service delivery and performance across its functions. The 2021 survey has two elements: A random telephone survey of a statistical sample of Isaac households, representative of the population and their location An online survey which all members of the community can complete The survey questions may take up to 15 minutes to complete on either phone or online. Telephone survey Households selected at random for telephone surveying will be contacted by field researchers

from IRIS Research between 4.30pm and 8.30pm from Monday, 25 October 2021 until Friday 19 November 2021. COUNCIL OPERATES NINE (9) WASTE SERVICES FACILITIES ACROSS ISAAC These Waste Services Facilities are involved in many areas of waste disposal and recycling. There is a designated Recycling Shop at the Moranbah Waste Service Facility which has many recycled items from household goods to industrial materials. The Waste Services Facilities also recycle items such as; batteries, timber, metal, aluminium, glass, tyres, plastic, steel and much more. Recycling waste is important and extremely useful. By reducing, reusing and recycling, we

are all helping conserve the environment. Prep: Jaylee Buchanan - The amazing writing you have been producing in English this term. The simple and compound sentences you have been writing are outstanding. You constantly use detail, apply the elements of a great sentence, stretch out unfamiliar words and form your letters beautifully. You are a writing superstar! Year 1: Blaze Barnes - The wonderful effort you have been putting in to ensure you are organised and ready for learning. You have been trying hard to complete all your tasks and follow teacher instructions. Well done Blaze and keep shining bright! CODE A DANCE PARTY WITH CODE.ORG Are you an aspiring choreographer who also loves coding? You can create a cool dance party to share with friends through Code.org. Choose your characters and code their dance steps to songs performed by Ariana Grande, Keith Urban, Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Madonna and more. Star Wars fans can use Code.org to learn to program droids and create their own Star Wars game in a galaxy far, far away. There’s also coding activities for Minecraft enthusiasts and fans of Anna and Elsa from Frozen. Code.org is a not for profit organisation dedicated to promoting online coding resources and aims to engage students in computer science. AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT - LIZ BYRSKI It seems that all good writers have a background in journalism and Australian author, Liz Byrski took this path before she became a full-time novelist. Byrski was born in England and began working at 16 as a secretary then moved on to be a reporter for a local newspaper. She took up freelance writing after her children were born. In 1981, Byrski and her family moved from England to Australia, settling at Perth. Byrski was a freelance journalist and writer for a variety of newspapers and magazines. She was also a broadcaster and an executive producer with ABC Radio. Byrski’s first fiction book, Gang of Four, was published in 2004 and her second novel, Food, Sex & Money was released the following year.

CLERMONT COMMUNITY HOUSING AND OTHER SERVICES INC WOULD LIKE TO INVITE INTERESTED PEOPLE TO A FREE WORKSHOP ON SUICIDE PREVENTION. safeTALK Training In Suicide Alertness safeTALK is a half day training in suicide alertness. It helps recognise a person with thoughts of suicide and connects them with resources to keep people safer from suicide. Participants don’t need any formal preparation to attend training – anyone age 15 or older who wants to make a difference can learn safeTALK steps. How safeTALK works Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t want to die - they are looking for a way to work through the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they usually invite others to help them in making choice for life. safeTALK teaches people to recognise these invitations, engage with the person having thoughts of suicide, and connect them with resources to help them be safer from suicide. These resources could include health care professionals, first responders, or crisis line workers - among many others who have suicide intervention training. safeTALK training features both presentations and interactive elements.
