really proving the pure people power of the Isaac. A huge congratulations to all the winners, runners-up and participants in this competitive field. “We have so much to be proud of. The long history of the Clermont Show traces back to the very origins of agricultural exhibitions in Queensland and it even pre-dates Brisbane’s famed Ekka. “The added difficulty and work to bring the event back after a year off is no small feat, and Council was proud to support the Show not just as a Diamond sponsor, but with additional financial support to assist with COVID requirements. Mayor Baker said she is constantly amazed by the large community involvement each year. “Well done and thank you to the Clermont Rodeo and Show Society for hosting another cracker event, and all of the volunteers who made the show possible.”

CLERMONT SEWER MANHOLE REHABILITATION WORKS Isaac Regional Council wishes to advise Clermont residents of sewer network relining works, which are due to commence: Clermont: Monday, 17 May till late June 6.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 4pm Saturday Weather permitting The project is being completed by contractors Relining Solutions Pty Ltd to undertake structural relining of the buried sewer pipelines within the two townships. The works are expected to be completed in late June 2021. To undertake these essential works the contractor will need to access sewer pipelines and sewer manholes, some of which are within private property. WHAT ARE WE DOING? Council has engaged contractors Relining Solutions Pty Ltd to undertake the project which will rehabilitate the sewer gravity mains to service the area by structurally relining the interior of the pipelines and greatly extending their service life. The works will be completed in stages and include the pre-cleaning and CCTV investigation of the underground pipelines, followed by structural relining of portions of the sewer gravity network using PVC relining materials. The works will occur within the urban areas, including within residential and commercial properties and will require access to private properties to access the existing pipe and manhole network. Affected property occupants will be given prior written notification.

WHEN IS IT HAPPENING? The works are scheduled to commence in Middlemount initially in May and commence in Clermont during April, with works expected to continue through to June 2021. WHAT TO EXPECT Council will be working closely with our contractors to minimise any impacts of this work on your daily routine. The sewer network will be rehabilitated by inserting new liners through existing manholes. Excavation or disruption of your sewerage service will not be necessary in the majority of cases. During this time, residents may experience an increase in noise and vehicle movement. The Contractor will ensure appropriate safety, noise and environmental controls are in place at all times, and will endeavour to minimise any impact to the local community. There should be no disruption to your water and wastewater services. REPORT A PROBLEM We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding as this important work is carried out to improve existing Council assets. If there are any concerns please call Council on 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227) so that it can be investigated and resolved.

COMMUNITY NEWS CENTRAL HIGHLANDS WELCOMES LEADING YOUTH PYSCHOLOGIST Clermont, Capella and Emerald leading Child and Youth Psychologist, Dr Michael Carr-Gregg spent two days visiting the region in April. His visit promoted the importance of building resilience in children and young people, as part of Clermont Community Housing’s Inspiring Preparedness initiative funded by the Queensland and Australian Government joint disaster recovery funding arrangements. In 2020, the project saw Celebrity Chef Matt Golinski share the inspiring ways in which he overcame the loss of his family in a house fire in 2011. As a way to inspire action, Matt was joined by the Emerald branch of the Rural Fire Brigades Association of Queensland, who shared some important bushfire preparedness strategies with the audience. Continuing the project in 2021, Michael Carr-Gregg provided the audience with ways to prepare our population, especially our future generations in how to manage and cope with challenging situations such as bushfires.

Psychologist on Channel Seven’s Sunrise Program. Michael was kept busy delivering parent presentations in Emerald, Clermont and Capella, as well as student and educator sessions in Clermont. Michael provided some practical and evidenced based tips for building resilience in young people. He encouraged parents to support kids to develop a sense of belonging, having connection with a charismatic adult and learning to deal with disappointment. One of the take home moments from Michael’s session in building resilience was to show gratitude in our daily lives. He explained it can be as simple as listing three things that went well that day or positively and realistically reframing negative perceptions of events. The events were a huge success with over 500 people attending events. Contributed by the Piano Tree Project (CCHAOSI) team

Michael is one of Australia’s highest profile psychologists working in all forms of media. He is a successful author, speaker, broadcaster and mental health advocate. He is the current resident Michael Carr-Gregg speaking at Clermont State High School
