Environment - increase green and blue spaces (200 ha of skyrise greenery) - increase convinience of mobility - increase reseource sustainability - increase community stewardship: more community and recreational facilities
- increase community stewardship - bringing common spaces to life - vibrant spaces for the community such as playgrounds, parks - lifestyle: - community encourages the ageing population by programmes to encourage to stay active in their old age. (e.g. - yah! young at heart)

Strategy
- no green park nearby, closest is 1.2 km away @ mount emily park, bugis - there are not enough green buildings in singapore - increasing density, lacking of land in singapore - awareness, when an elderly passes away someone will notice and know immidiately instead of knowing through the smell of decaying body
- to create a sense of inclusiveness, understanding and awareness - to respond to all surroundings of the site - rejuvination as the site has too much history and culture to refer to, focusing on just one or two would do
- to connect with neighbours through the manipulation of spaces - for example: putting a 4 bedroom apartment together with a 1 bedroom apartment - this is to help increase awareness as from personal studies and research people in singapore have a very systematic lifestyle - helps to know each other’s schedule so when something seems out of place, the residents around will notice
- fear of dying - lonely depressed elderly cause for worry - more seniors in singapore are taking their own lives -”empty-nest syndrome”

FIRST MASSING MODEL: - ISSUE - CONCEPT - DESIGN DRIVER - STRATEGY 1. ISSUE - HISTORy of the site: - thieves market - rochor centre - shophouses at jalan besar
Massing 2: Responding to site environment
Design strategy: - north-south facade will not get hit by the afternoon sun very harshly - cut the block in half allowing for ventilation - make more path for the wind direction for good ventilation - sky terrace roof garden: - for both public and commercial use (e.g. comcrop) sky terrace: - as communal space opportunity for small shops gap in between the building for more greenery, so it will not be a solid concrete jungle

Massing 3: Responding to issues and intended plan Design driver: -positive + negative - push + pull
Design concept: create a sense of inclusiveness and understanding and awareness - to connect with neighbours through manipulation of spaces ((typical plan))
typical f l oor plan layout: - shorter distance to the lift, more interaction beetween neighbours - placing 4 bedrooms beside a one bedroom apartment - t o increase awareness and that the family in the bigger apartment can take care of the smaller apartment

- just an improvement from massing 3 - changing a bit of the facade
stacking of f l oors : alternate promotes better ventilation and also maximises views from each side

- interactive spaces: - instead of a guardhouse (@ road buffer) i have the intention to put the glass “plague� with the intention to put a glass and history timeline printed on the glass - elderlies are able to interact easily with young children ; elderlies can teach and talk about the site’s history to the residents in the community
