As with any other brand, the first and most crucial thing prior to design is to establish what to convey – to define its ethos. This got me thinking about my skills and personality, and how I could visually represent them. My most employable (and favourite) feature is my genuine need to find out more about any and everything. This characteristic allows me to be informed, aware and connected… To ultimately “be” an eclectic mix of the things I see, think and learn about. Layers, nets, links and details all emerged as possible visual translations of my personality, which led to my first experiments.

As for the logo I have tried to explore the possibilities around my initials together they form the word “in”, which allows me to playfully write “I’m i.n”, simultaneously saying I’m Isabel and how I’m in for the experience. I have also realized that each of my initials was composed by three lines, hence the two experiments on the bottom. Nevertheless, the experiment that most appealed to me was the second one, in which I have merged the letter “i” with an exclamation mark. I’m really pleased with the shape it formed and immediately thought about the previous “typewritten” business card design and how I could easily link them.

In these initial experiments I have tried to convey the above mentioned features of mine. The net texture represents the connections I enjoy making. In line with the previous idea, the line in between my initial links them. The folded edges work as a metaphor for the physical act of discovering – this design could imply interactivity with the viewer, requiring the other person to unfold my identity, very much in the same way I enjoy “unfolding” information. This design represents layering. The brushstroke texture is meant to represent my artistic background, now mixed and integrated with a more digital present. The letter “i” has always been my favourite, and its repetition created a very interesting texture, almost resembling a typewriten font. In order for me to continue these experiments, the creation of a logo began to be indispensable.

i i iiiiii i i i i i I have designed different fronts for the business card, with a fixed back. My contact details were written in a similar style to the front design, with spaces between letters and repetitive “i’s”, conferring consistency and playfulness to it.

selfpromotion logo +++ + business card The collage featuring my face was made during my Foundation Year for a project about androgyny which, although not relevant for my self-promotion, shows somewhat the initial idea of me being a result of the things I learn about - a living collage.

As for the visual CV, and because I felt I hadn’t yet included my initial conception of layering, I have included 5 different, detachable ones, so that I could better show my aesthetic and personality. This creates a certain interactivity with the employer as well, which will hopefully get their attention.

cv +++ regular I am still yet to discover how to create a website or an animation that allows the viewer to click on the different layers so as to drag and move them. In the meanwhile, the visual CV will be sent by mail, which has its benefits and disadvantages. The normal CV would be the bottom layer of the visual one.
