cover letter
ISABEL GÓMEZ GARCÍA Seville (Spain), 1990 Being an architect since June 2014, I began my studies at Higher Technical School of Architecture of Seville in 2008. I also studied a semester as an Erasmus student at University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, which lets me to strengthen my language knowledge and to learn about architecture from another perspective. In my last academic year I was an assistant student at Architectural Constructions Department and, after completing my studies, I was named Honorary Assistant. I had the opportunity to begin with my professional development due to a grant AUTODESK BIM SPECIALIST ACCREDITED(MARCH) from Santander Bank, which allowed me to get in touch with working environment and to collaborate with some architecture offices in the development of several Master of ARCHITECTURE (SEVILLE, SPAIN) Ma INTERIOR DESIGN + Project Management projects. After completing my studies in architecture at June 2014 (Architecture in Spain goes on for 6 years), in October I started Master of Interior Design and Project Management. Finishing it in June 2015, I was rated with 10/10 in my Master’s Thesis. At the same time that I was studying master course, I got involved in the development of the International Competition for Sustainable Architecture Solar Decathlon, competing against other 16 universities around the world in Cali (Colombia). In my role of Project Manager, I was in charge of coordinating both the development of project design and all necessary procedures to take part in competition. In addition, due to the master I was studying at the same time, I was responsible for the interior and furniture housing design. At the end of the master and in parallel to the development of Solar Decathlon project, I worked for six months as an architectural assistant in ‘villegasbueno arquitectura’. With these experiences I have had the opportunity not only to increase knowledge working with a great team of professionals but also to improve my ability of team management and teamwork. Also, both during my university days and after then, I have participated in several architectural competitions as a way to test my skills and to continue my evolution in architectural practice, professionally and in-group work. Besides, I find in them the ideal platform to develop my representation and visual architectural design communication abilities, an area that have always piqued my interest. Related with this interest in graphic design, I have also worked in the development of corporate image of a blog, logo design or the design and production of graphic elements at event planning. Attached to this letter, I send my CV and a sample of work done until nowadays in order to be taken into consideration for any possible job vacancy available. I am confident that I can be an asset to the team. Thanking you in advance for this opportunity, receive a warm greeting. Sincerely,
Isabel Gómez García

PROYECTO AURA XIII BEAU AWARD (SPANISH architecture and urban planning BIEnNiAL) SOLAR DECATHLON LAC 2015 3rd place ROLE: TEAM project manager + interior design SUSTAInable architecture international competition September 2014 | december 2015 SOCIAL HOUSING IN TROPICAL WEATHER PROTOTYPE ‘Proyecto AURA’ is the proposal that represents University of Seville in Solar Decathlon LAC 2015, which is the renowned international competition for sustainable architecture. In its first Latin-American edition we competed against other 16 universities around the world. The proposal includes an urban planning approach focused on close relationships between housing and facilities, making car use as something dispensable. Besides, housing design goes for prototyping; managing to get a self-build, energy self-sufficient, tropical climate conformed and low cost units. These units would shape multi-family housing units. Interior spaces of each unit expand with a terrace/ hallway, which it’s exterior but covered. It works as a distance between each of the adjacent housing and drills linear blocks in transverse direction. This transition space between indoor and outdoor provides flexibility into the unit. This prototype aims to achieve comfort conditions passively, mainly through natural ventilation and sun protection. Also a flexible and light structure, which speed up construction and let unskilled labour participate, is used. The project brings together contemporary debate on inhabit, Mediterranean treatment of light and sustainability challenges; all inserted in a tropical environment. ‘Proyecto AURA’ was placed third in general ranking of Solar Decathlon 2015 Latin America & Caribbean competition.

LIGHT TOWER | CASTilnovo tower refurbishing HONORABLE MENTION fakro inspires | space for new visions competition together with: Javier serrano fajardo, october 2016 The project aims to address an intervention on an abandoned architecture, planning to provide it again for public use as it used to be and to open it to citizens for their discovery and knowledge.
Castilnovo Tower
Located in Cadiz, southern of Spain, a sixteenth century old tower rises from the ground. It used to be an observation tower due to its privileged position facing Atlantic Ocean. However, passage of time and abandonment turned it into an out-dated structure, which is nothing more than an empty space between walls.
An autonomous ruin
Unwilling to compromise his aesthetic, taking care of the ruins and a no contact strategy were the point of departure for the development of the architectural concept. The tower walls, which are kept in a
statement of refurbished ruins, become part of the project as its focus.
An activator device
Inserted between the thick walls of the tower, which openly show its scars, the new architecture is set working in synthesis with the existing fabric rather than counterpoint. A new light scheme placed inside the old tower provides again a public use for the neglected building through its itinerary. Lighthouse-like, at its highest part, a new architectural piece rises from the old walls to hover over the sea and feel the breeze and the south light.
Renewed public use
Tower recycling leads up to its incorporation to the city and reopening for the citizens. Also, a new spot to catch sight of the landscape; a place made for dreaming, between sky and earth. It’s a shelter, an observatory to see the earth and the sky, to sleep under the stars, to feel the breeze rocking your body and to seek refuge in heights.

A recognizable, essential and contained proposal With a recognizable and universal house image as point of departure; a sensible, simple and consistent with expressed needs proposal is looked for. It targets to be a quick and immediate shelter for people at social exclusion. To manage this, we wager on a proposal that aims to give the most with least. It pretends to be logic, discrete and functional, without fanfare or any needless accessory. This proposal through its symbolic exterior image set in a middle urban environment, which we are used to look with apathy and to go across disinterestedly, doesn’t want to be a house; it pretends to be a wake up call, a symbol and a complaint.

Prefabricated construction Due to its small dimensions and light materials, prototype could be built both entirely in workshop and then transported to its installation place, and through dry construction without external aids. Laminated wood structural panels are used as construction system and through overlapped layers a stable, fast and dry construction is achieved. As a result, disassembly is expected as another phase prototype life, being easy to transport it to another location or to its recycling. Thus, a reversible construction and a minimal environment footprint are managed.

Passive architecture mechanisms Prototype is slightly raised from the ground achieving in that way a maximum adaptation to irregular topographies and preventing surface moisture thereby. A first layer of thermal and acoustic insulation surrounds it, warranting good interior comfort conditions. A second one avoids direct contact with outer solar radiation, managing to decrease interior temperature. A skylight helps air recirculation in a totally passive way.

a hidden stone in the woods ‘ARCHITECTURE PRIZE’ AWARD community forest international backwood cabin competition together with: javier serrano fajardo april 2016 Landscape appropriation The cabin revolves around a main issue: how could we inhabit a place in such a way that the architecture becomes part of the environment in which it is inserted, but in a natural and logical way. Without any show and in a simple and sensible way, as if it had always been waiting to be discovered, the cabin hopes to appropriate surrounding landscape through a series of exchanges between them and inhabitant. It’s just as a hidden

stone into the woods found almost by chance that was waiting to be inhabited. Exchanges with the place The cabin is based on simple, modulated and orthogonal geometry and volume. It aims to dialogue with nature and wild landscape around it. Through regular and proportionate serialization, the cabin is placed at this rough topography. Like 01

a stone, it arises from the ground grabbing attention within uniform wood landscape where it is located. Due to cabin configuration through that equipped furniture, we get a highly versatile and flexible interior space that allows its appropriation in different ways. A big south opening allows landscape to be framed in its best orientation, through a sliding woodwork that can be hidden inside furniture; blurring boundaries between interior and exterior, cabin and landscape.

OPEN SPACE | kitchen + living room + dinning room
LIGHT SPACE We understand housing as a single and bright space. Due of that idea, almost all project decisions are taken so that southern light can flood the penthouse. All interior layout is separated from south façade to enhance that stream of light from the terrace. Thus, between big southern windows and that empty space parallel to the terrace, we achieve a space that channels light into the whole house. Contiguous spaces COLLECTION Penthouse is thought as a succession of spaces in continuity to achieve a more flexible and open housing, but each space has its own specific use. Different rooms are created through the arrangement of furniture. Therefore we manage to get depth inside the house with the succession of several planes. The aforementioned space leaved next to south facade manages to integrate the terrace within the interior trough new windows frames. These frames also filters light and protect the interior from direct solar radiation improving housing climate behaviour.
sElf-contained bathroom | bedroom + dressing room
‘Leaved space’ We propose a space parallel to the terrace free from any kind of constructed element. All interior layout is configured respecting this distance from south façade, thereby achieving highest levels of natural light inside. Spatially, we get a clear vision of the entire interior with several depth levels.

en-vuelta international competition for the extension and refurbishment of higher technical school of architecture of seville together with: fernando díaz, francisco duarte, miguel a. gil, rafael herrrera, clara jiménez, elena lópez, javier lópez, julia molina, juan pérez, francisco sánchez and fernando royo. march 2014 The project aims to recover the original condition of Architecture and Building Schools spaces, when they worked together as a gathering place. To manage that we propose a membrane that surrounds all current isolated areas. It works as a new and unifying skin between those present buildings, which remain and will be refurbished, and those new included within the proposal. New constructions are needed because of the implementation of a new programme. The new Learning Resource Centre is the focus of all the complex refurbishment. It is conceived as the heart of the proposal and the point from where all internal circulations are organized.

thuna gastronomic center final thesis june 2014 Zahara de los Atunes, in the south of Spain, is famous for its beaches and fish. The town is considered to have its origin in the building known as Palacio de Pilas or Casa Chanca. The once famous building had been lost in time and was derelict. The decision was made to revive the zone. Recently added constructions were demolished and the structure of the architectural ensemble was recovered. To embrace the beautiful setting a kind of courtyard building is proposed. A pergola greets you as you arrive, takes you past a space for information to the entrance of the centre, before leading off into the museum and lately gastronomic area. The proposal was a hybrid project – a mixture of museum, cookery school and restaurant. The northwest tower was rehabilitate restored to house a viewing platform of the bay, the captain’s house was brought back into use as part of the museum area and two new buildings were reinstated to hold lecture rooms and the restaurant. Besides, the old wood warehouse was remodel to hold the kitchens. The regeneration of the area also involved the preservation of the stretches of the wall remaining and a proposal of a public space for leisure that opens up to the beach.
