Alomere Prenatal Class

Alomere Health welcomes you to a Prenatal Class during this important time in the life of your family. This two class series will help you prepare for your new addition by answering important questions about labor and delivery, sharing what to expect at the hospital, and will give you a tour of the labor and delivery department. Classes will be held in their lower level Conference room. Please enter through Door 13 and you will be directed from there. Masks may be required at Alomere Health. Please watch for signs. Horizon Public Health Breastfeeding Class

Join a certified lactation consultant with Horizon Public Health to learn the basics of breastfeeding including benefits, how and when to feed, getting enough milk, breast care and lifestyle suggestions. Mothers and birth parents are encouraged to attend during their third trimester. If you have PrimeWest or Medical Assistance, please call 320762-3305 to register as your insurance will cover the cost of this class.

Our Ready, Set, Go! to Preschool Experience Young preschoolers are excited about learning! Your child can experience an extra day of practice with this experience, designed for children and families to ease into preschool. Parents and children will have fun doing activities together on the first day of the week, followed by a parent discussion focusing on real-life ways to support their preschooler’s development. Children will attend a 2-hour class by themselves two days later to gain confidence with a preschool experience in a warm, fun environment. Prepare for the ACT with our intensive ZAPS workshop. Youth Axe Throwing League (Ages 12-18)

GYMNASTICS PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

Fun early childhood classes will focus on taking turns, building balance and strength, listening skills, and basic gymnastics shapes. An instructor will guide Parent and Child through stations and obstacle courses. This program is for children 18 months to 3.5 years, accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Little Leapers

Little Leapers focused on taking turns, building balance and strength, listening skills, learning basic gymnastics shapes like tuck, straddle, pike and lunge. Our classes offer a lot of opportunities for fun and growth. This class is geared toward ages 2-3 1/2 and must be potty trained.

Preschool Gymnastics

This class for 4 & 5 year old’s will introduce the basics of gymnastics. Taking turns, building balance and strength, listening skills and learning basic shapes. Our classes will provide a lot of opportunities for fun and growth while learning skills to get us ready for the big gym.

Basic tumbling skills (forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, etc) plus introduction to bars, balance beam and vault. Terminology of gymnastics is also introduced. This class is intended for ages 5 and older. Must pass Intro to move into Intermediate.

Intermediate Gymnastics

Must pass Intro or have been evaluated to enroll. Gymnasts will work skills and progressions in tumbling, bars, balance beam and vault. Skills of emphasis are: pullovers, bridge kickover, handstand to bridge, cartwheels, and the start to vault. There will be an emphasis on our strength, flexibility and technique.

Advanced Gymnastics

Must pass Intermediate or have been evaluated to enroll. Skill progression and advancement in tumbling, bars, balance beam and vault. Skills of emphasis are: roundoffs, handsprings, walkovers, vault, kips, jumps and turns on beam, also continuing to improve strength, flexibility and technique. Once mastered, you will be invited to try out for the pre team program.

Pre Team

Our pre team program prepares gymnasts for competitive gymnastics for our club program and to help them prepare for the Alexandria high school program. These classes progress skills and start to incorporate routines, jumps and leaps in preparation for competition opportunities. If you have been on pre team in the past or are new to the area and have pre team or team experience, please call 762-3310 ext. 4238. Placement on pre team is done by evals that are completed in the spring or on a case by case basis.

English as a Second Language

Classes for adults whose native language is not English. Learn to speak, read and write in English. Meet once a week to practice conversation and study ESL/citizenship topics. General Educational Development (GED)

The GED test is a series of four subject tests in math, science, social studies and language arts a person can take to demonstrate their high school academic knowledge. Earning a GED diploma is the equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma and accepted by nearly all colleges and employers in the U.S., as well as many universities outside of the U.S.

Minnesota Standard Adult Diploma (AD)

This is a competency-based secondary credential issued by the State of Minnesota and aligned to the State’s current K-12 academic standards along with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS), Academic, Career and Employability Skills (ACES), and NorthStar Digital Literacy Standards. The Standard Adult Diploma covers five domains: English language arts, math, science, social studies, and employability/career/digital literacy.

Developing a Pathway

A paraprofessional (teacher assistant) provides instructional, behavioral, and other support to students. Paraprofessionals employed in Title I and Special Education programs in Minnesota schools must be highly qualified, and certification is one pathway to employment. This 8-week online class will help prepare adult learners for the Paraeducator Certification Exam. The exam is needed if adult students do not have a two or four-year degree and would like to work in a school setting with kindergarten to 12th grade students. The certification exam is an online multiple choice exam covering reading, writing, and math skills, including how to apply those skills in a classroom or school setting.

Writing a College Ready Research Paper

After writing the first draft essays from the research, students will learn to use APA style citations. Finally, enrolled students will collaborate for proofreading and revision.

Senior Housing Tour

Is a change of housing in the future for you or a loved one? Learn about some of the choices in the Alexandria area (senior apartments, adult foster care facilities, and 55+ housing communities.) After a short informational session, board a school bus and visit 2-3 senior housing sites. The bus will have wheelchair accessibility. Sites will be finalized about two weeks before the tour date. Cancellations

Sometimes you need to cancel a class. Participant initiated cancellations will result in a 10% cancellation fee, minimum of $5. Refunds will be given prior to 2 business days from class start date. If your class is canceled due to lack of enrollment you will receive a full refund.
