Immersion means that teachers communicate only in Spanish while teaching students. They learn through pictures, sounds, and nonverbal cues. The goal of language immersion is for students to become proficient in a second language and develop cultural awareness while learning content.

Families may choose to enroll in the Princeton Spanish Immersion program in kindergarten or first grade. We currently offer Spanish Immersion through fifth grade, and we are adding a sixth grade immersion option for the 2021-22 school year. Students are immersed in Spanish while they learn Minnesota Academic Standards in math, science, reading, and writing.

Key Components • Students can start this full day program in kindergarten or first grade. • Spanish is the language of instruction for all classroom instruction until third grade when English is introduced. • The immersion curriculum parallels the district’s English curriculum in core subjects. • Students recieve specialist instruction in English for art, music, science, technology, and physical education. • Families are asked to make a long-term commitment to the program.

We are a few years into the program and we are the ones

learning from our kids!
