“ Shoot for the moon and if you miss, you’ll be among the stars” I am a person who believes in the originality and uniqueness of the creative process. The process surpasses the final product by miles. As a budding architect, I aim to practice this profession with utmost ethics and principles, and I strive to not fall prey to the tempting art of Plagiarism. I enjoy Architectural Skecthing, Singing and doodling. Conceptualizing ideas is someting I profoundly enjoy.

ISHIKA SHRIVASTAVA Budding Architecture Student Hi! I Am a student at R V College of Architecture, currently pursuing 4th year of Architecture undergraduate. I have an interest in High-tech and Postmodern buildings, and have a futuristic inclination in my designs. I am more of a hands-on person and good with conceptual skills. I love exploring simple, unique and innovative designs.

The disparity e class lead to the formation of two different o be in factories, and the factory spaces were otation. How does one bridge the gap?

A CENTURY OF THINGS MORPHED TOWN//FACTORY

In this factory space, the user and the workers there, both would enter this new realm of factory space, where every notion that has caused a disparity between the industrial world and the suburban world would be questioned and lost. With the factory space akin to that of a town, the space would be perceived in a new manner entirely. A perception where the space is met with a lot more warmth and curiosity. This factory space also targets at enhancing the street like spaces between any two blocks by making them more driven by senses. The user is met with stimulations targetted at olfactory, auditory and visual senses. The public realm thereby, is appreciative of the process, since they get to see it at an extremely intimate level.

The following factory spaces take place in this morphed town/factory: • Embassy of smell: perdumery • Monkey Factor: Plant Retail • Cross stitch: Quilt Making • Letter of Spirit: Print Making • 24FPS: Short Film Studio • Game of mirros: Glass making • Theorem Pythogars: Glass Making • Common Estates

MORPHED TOWN FACTORY The project aims at bridging the gap between the factory realm and the public realm. When asked to visualize a factory space, the only imagery that comes to one’s mind is that of highly mechanized intimidating equipments, a dusty foreground and inability to comprehend the process that goes behind the processing of any product. By creating street like spaces between all the seven factory spaces and creating a more intimate experience for the public realm to experience the factory space, the outlook of the factory space could get enhanced. These streets resemble that of a small medieval town, where the senses get enhaced everytime somebody walks through them

What is the idea of a campus? Why do cam few questions we were asked to ponder upo of a campus, for me, originates from my prim Having shifted around a lot, the sense of belo important to me. mpuses even exist to begin with? These were a on before commencing this project. The idea mordial memories of being a part of a campus. onging to a place, growing up, became very a part of, felt like it belonged more to the ones to me. Hence, with this project, I have tried to ng to no one and everyone at the same time.

MORTALS//IMMORTALS [un]CAMPUS

In a world where every campus out there feels alien and new, rusty and chipped to any new student entering it, this campus design, an idea of [un]academy aims at making every student entering the campus feel this sense of ownership that often goes amiss amongst students studying at age old campuses because they weren’t designed according to their needs. MORTALS//IMMORTALS helps every person entering the campus layer themselves onto the campus. They first get introduced to the forest of columns, where the student learns to unlearn by losing themselves in this forest. The forest manifests into these nest like bubbles where the learning takes place, allowing the student to ‘live in their own bubble’ but also help them spectate the streets they have been tucked into.

MORTALS//IMMORTALS is a campus design which aims at answering questions like ‘what it means to get lost in your own bubble of learning?’ and ‘why it is met with such a negativie connotation?’. The campus design resembles a forest of columns one could get lost in and discover themselves in these bubbles akin to sanctuatries of absolute truth.

An Activity plan of MG Road

A sectional view of one of the ‘bubbles’

“We have assigned clever pseudonyms to prevent recognition. Why have we kept our own names? Out of habit, purely out of habit. To make ourselves unrecognizable in turn. To render imperceptible, not ourselves, but what makes us act, feel, aand think. Also because it’s nice to talk like everybody else, to say the sun rises, when everybody knows it’s only a manner of speaking. To reach, not the point where one no longer says I, but the point where it is no longer of any importance whether one says I. We are no longer ourselves. Each will know his own. We have been aided, inspired, multiplied.” -Rhizome

GROUND FLOOR PLAN Scale 1:300 The Campus caters to five main areas of expertise: Visual, Verbal/ Auditory, Physical, Gastronomic and Virtual. It’s open to everyone and is very inclusive in nature. It lets the people admitting there layer themselves onto the forest, by letting them create their own areas of congregation for that particular academic year. They can do this by wrapping fabric around the forest of columns and activating these spaces. This way everybody who enters leaves a part of themselves onto the campus, immortalizing themselves amongst these bubbles - a manifestation of nest like spaces amidst the columns.

This is a detailed view around sometime in the evening. The main congregation area has increased activity as the day progresses. More people can be seen making their way through the campus to their respective bubbles akin to sanctuaries of absolute truth,

The campus works 24/7 making it safer and more inclusive in nature. The exhibition space is inflatable in nature, when in use it increases in size since its a pneumatic structure. The bubbles are there to learn in and for people to spectate the campus through.

ck to the time of the cavemen. It’s so inherent nd the need to survive. But, we never wonder nected to each other. The space we inhabit, ring and decaying in this space we call home. ed to that space, it forgets to think, to breathe erything that one knew about a house gets o revisit our primordial memories of ‘home’?

ARCHITECTURE AGAINST DEATH INTERIOR DESIGN FOR CAS HOLMAN Cas holman, in her initial days had worked with Arakawa and GIns, the former an architect and the latter, a poet, two amateurs, who went on to question the very basics and conventions of architecture. The duo had outright declared that they have decided not to die, and have attempted to reverse the aging process and prevent death. Their main principle was to question everything why everything was the way it was. This lead to reimagining flooring and roofing conventions. A similar attempt was made to design Cas Holman’s [a toy designer] space. The playfulness, cognitive dissonance, and physical discomforts found in the space would help her creative mind stay alive and function with utmost effieciency. An aversion to right angles, and absence of symmetry, and a constant shifting of elevations would stimulate the immune system, sharpen the mind and lead to immortality.

COCNEPTUAL DIAGRAMS The above mentioned diagrams talk about how the plan came into being. The integration of play was very important to the design, since Cas holman is someone who believes that ‘Easy is boring’ and ‘Play is as essential as sleep’. Keeping her personality in mind, the design integrates sleep as much as play. After all, the goal is to evade death but also get a goodnight’s sleep simultaneoulsy while Cas tries to achieve that and more.

A slide that gets integrated from the first floor to the ground floor serving as an alternative means of circulation

This pop up workstation gets embedded in the wall and can be used as per Cas’ convenience

A hammide or slammock can be found in the backyard, or more like, Cas can be found relaxing in this on a sunny afternoon

Hempcrete is used as inlay for most of the walls. Hempcrete brick is a natural eco-friendly construction material that is widely used for the construction of green buildings. The benefit of hempcrete bricks is that it is fire resistance. Once the mixture set it will not catch fire. Hempcrete bricks are energy efficient and sustainable construction material.

Bio Plastics can be used to construct some of the slides in the design. Their flexibilty and their ability to be moulded into any shape makes them very favourable as a material choice. Bio plastics are biodegradable and a sustainable choice for interiors since its eco-friendly as an interior material.

SOLAR DECATHLON SINGLE FAMILY HOUSING - A NZEB

FORM ANALOGY

P A S S I V E D E S I G N S T R A T E G I E S

Situated in Harohalli, Ramnagar, this project was meant to be retreat away from the hustle of the city apart from it being NZEB. There are 2 occupants there residing on a permanent basis and 4 adults and 4 children residing there on an occassional basis. The sun path diagram when superimposed on the site, helped us generate the initial form which was shaped like a trapezium, then studying it further helped us stagger the walls along NW for self shading and place a courtyard to accommodate the wind flowing from NW-SE.

GROUND FLOOR PLAN

FIRST FLOOR PLAN

First Floor Mood Board

Ground Floor
