Monthly Community Preaching Reports By Madhurya Gaurangi devi dasi Greenwich During the month of October the travelling sankirtan party Harinam Mandir was visiting ISKCON London temple. Out of their kindness they agreed to visit Greenwich and Lewisham and we spent the whole day there, chanting the holy name on the streets. Some new devotees from Greenwich Bhakti Vriksha joined in too. They were very inspired that brahmacaris visited their local area. Some books and many leaflets were distributed advertising the programme. Quite a few passersby were attracted to Harinam, and one lady even came for a programme next week!
Syamananda dasa went for two weeks and HG Radha Londonisvara dasa facilitated one week. Newcomers are very inspired by the sessions - one lady has taken up chanting of one round a day. Until January 2nd, Greenwich community centre is shut due to the holiday period. Camden From October to present, more people have joined Bhakti Vriksha. We have invented a birthday sheet, where the birthdays of every member are listed and so we can celebrate birthdays with cake and gifts. During Srila Prabhupada’s Book Marathon in December, programmes were facilitated by HG Sarasvati devi dasi who is a regular member of our group and is a big inspiration, especially with her beautifully led kirtans.
New people joined the programme during October. One man first came just for food, but after few meetings he started attending from the beginning and got Srimad Bhagavatam 1.1. In November we continued with the usual Bhakti Vriksha schedule. During Srila Prabhupada’s Book Marathon in December, I was not able to go and facilitate the programmes, and instead HG

The Mentorship System The Spiritual Counsellor System at ISKCON-London has changed its name to the Mentorship System.
Mentorship System Maha Sangha
This brings it into line with the Mentorship System at Bhaktivedanta Manor and also the Pandava Sena Mentor System. The format of the system at ISKCON-London remains the same as it was when it was called the Spiritual Counsellor System.
On Saturday the 9th of November, mentors and mentees of the Mentorship groups attended the Maha Sanga at St Gabriel’s Hall at Pimlico. The theme of the Maha sanga was ‘Srila Prabhupada lila’.It was organised by Jai Nitai Dasa’s single men mentorship group who were exceptionally very welcoming and served devotees in a selfless mood from the beginning till the end.
If you would like to join the Mentorship System at ISKCON-London than please contact Bhava Bhakti dd on Bhava.Bhakti@gmail.com

Every mentorship group presented a completely unique way of serving Srila Prabhupada either through kirtan, dramas or short movies. Devotees showed distinguished qualities of ‘film producers’,’directors’ and ‘actors’. The movies were hilarious but taught us all the essence of our lives; unalloyed ‘seva’. The presentations included:Srila Prabhupada’s first experience trying to bring Krishna consciousness in the west, his organising the first Ratha yatra festival in San Francisco, his life as a child, his struggle for the Juhu property, his blessings to those engaged in

book distribution , beautiful singing of ‘My sweet Lord’ and a lot more. After the presentations, devotees from all the different mentorship groups participated in kirtan together chanting and dancing in ecstasy joined by Mahavishnu Swami and Janananda Goswami. After honoring sumptuous prasadam and tidying up, devotees boarded on an open top double decker bus for a bus Harinam around Central London for about two hours. It was a wonderful experience.

Govardhana Puja On Monday 4th November we celebrated the Govardhana Puja festival with great pomp. The Temple was decorated beautifully with pictures of Krishna holding Govardhana hill, and the gopas and cows, all around the Temple room.
Hill began at 12.30pm and continued until 1pm amidst kirtana by Krsna lila dasa. After this, a sumptuous feast was served to all the guests in two sittings. In the evening Abhisheka was performed of Govardhana Silas, and then the Radha Krishna drama group performed drama depicting the pastime of Krishna lifting Govardhana hill, followed by Damodarashtakam prayers.
Morning class was given by HG Radha Raman dasa and evening class was given by Syamananda dasa on the lessons to learn from Govardhan lila. At noon, a splendid Darshan of Govardhana Hill in the centre of the Temple room was arranged by the pujaris with loads of colourful offerings of sweets and savouries. Circumambulation of Govardhana

Srila Prabhupada Disappearance On Wednesday 7th November, we observed the disappearance day of Srila Prabhupada. In the morning, Srila Prabhupada’s memories were played, and in the evening we were graced by HG Malati Mataji with a short class. Following this, HG Radha Raman dasa sang Damodarashtakam prayers, followed by Guruvashtakam in the evening melody at 7:30pm. The Temple room was fully packed with devotees coming for Srila Prabhupada’s darshan.
44th Anniversary of Sri Sri Radha Londonisvara The 44th anniversary marked a very special achievement in the history of the London Temple. Over 500 guests assembled on a Sunday afternoon for a programme packed with Kirtan, a drama taken from the Ramayan presented by the Radha Krishna Drama Group and a wonderful feast. We were blessed to have HH Mahavishnu Swami and HG Dhananjaya dasa who spoke deeply about the early days of the London Temple. The event also hosted a special presentation from HG Srutidharma dasa (Temple President of Bhaktivedanta Manor) on the 40 years of success at the Manor and the celebrations for Radha-Gokulananda’s 40th Anniversary.

This event also marked the launch of a New Temple initiative which will Petition the authorities to provide the necessary consents for a purpose built Temple in Regent’s Park to accommodate the growing needs of the community and to also fulfil the wishes of His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. This will take the form of an online petition [http://www.londontemple.co.uk/], where signatures are collected, which will be presented to the local government. Everyone present was asked to forward this message to at least 10 people so that we can reach the target of 10,000 signatures by January 2014. We also included a prayer and requested all members of our community to start to petition Their Lordships to empower us to satisfy Them in this way.

ISKCON London Annual Volunteers Sangha Time, HG Jai Nitai dasa began by saying, is more valuable than money. This is because we can’t get it back, and therefore, being engaged in devotional service - whatever our service is, be it washing pots, greeting guests, deity worship and the many other diverse services we may do physically at the Temple or from home - we are offering our time in sacrifice to the Supreme Lord, the provider of all.
Such quotes from transcendental literature remind us of the great potency of devotional service, and when we are performing it, we are directly associating with Lord Krishna Himself. Wherever there is Srimati Radharani, there is Krishna, and wherever there is Bhakti-devi, devotional service, there is also Krishna, as Bhakti-devi is an expansion of Srimati Radharani.
We read extracts from the Nectar of Devotion and Chapter 12 of Bhagavad Gita As It Is that state the importance and glories of devotional service. In Bhagavad Gita 12.8, Srila Prabhupada writes that“One who is engaged in Lord Krishna’s devotional service lives in a direct relationship with the Supreme Lord, so there is no doubt that his position is transcendental from the very beginning.”
It is always a sublime experience to engage in devotional service to Their Lordships at ISKCON-London, and then to deeply reflect and assimilate gratitude for the fortunate position we are in with others we may serve alongside. Therefore coming together to do the latter during the sanga, facilitated by our Temple President, was an inspiring and uplifting experience to say the least.

GBC Resolutions / Statements The following are important communications coming from our GBC (Governing Body Commission). It is important that you take the time to read the following fully and if you have any questions please direct them to your local Temple\ Centre\Community leadership.
303. GBC Statement on the Position of Srila Prabhupada
da, the guru parampara, one’s diksa guru, other siksa gurus, the Holy Name, sastra, and the nine processes of devotional service.
Whereas there is a need to clarify within our society, via a succinct statement, Srila Prabhupada’s preeminent position in relationship to diksa and siksa gurus as well as all ISKCON members, and to provide clarity on the function and position of diksa and siksa gurus in the ISKCON society:
Within these cooperative elements, Srila Prabhupada, as the Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, is the preeminent guru for all members of ISKCON. All members of ISKCON, for all generations, are encouraged to seek shelter of Srila Prabhupada. All members of ISKCON are entitled and encouraged to have a personal relationship with Srila Prabhupada through his books, teachings, service, and his ISKCON society.
RESOLVED: That the GBC endorses the following statement:
All members accepting leadership roles within ISKCON, including diksa gurus and siksa gurus, have the duty of serving together under ISKCON’s Governing Body Commission (GBC) to fulfill Srila Prabhupada’s instructions as he has given in his books, lectures, and personal communications. [1]
As the Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and the preeminent teacher and ultimate authority within our society, Srila Prabhupada has a unique relationship with every ISKCON devotee.
Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is the original guru whose Divine Grace descends through the medium of the guru parampara. As such, a devotee is ultimately delivered by Sri Krishna acting through a combination of various manifestations of His mercy. These include, but are not limited to, the caitya guru, Srila Prabhupa
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Overall, the primary duty of all diksa gurus, siksa gurus, and others in leadership positions, is to assist Srila Prabhupada in his service to his Guru Maharaja Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, and our Brahma Madhva Gaudiya Sampradaya.

Those who accept the service of diksa guru or siksa guru in ISKCON are required to be exemplary in representing Srila Prabhupada’s teaching in their words and personal behavior. The siksa guru gives spiritual instruction and inspiration on behalf of Srila Prabhupada and our guru parampara. The diksa guru gives spiritual instruction, inspiration, formal initiation, a spiritual name, and later imparts the sacred Gayatri mantras to a qualified disciple as a service to Srila Prabhupada and our guru parampara.
This statement, while conclusive, is not exhaustive in its discussion of these principles. The GBC may authorize additional statements and papers in the future to further explain the preeminent position of our Founder-Acarya Srila Prabhupada, the role and responsibilities of those who serve as gurus in our society, and the related duties of ISKCON members and initiates. All GBC members must distribute this resolution to all ISKCON temples, communities and congregations via appropriate means of communication for the education of all ISKCON members. This statement shall also be studied in ISKCON courses including introductory courses, the ISKCON Disciple Course, the Spiritual Leadership Seminar: Being a Guru in ISKCON, and other relevant venues. Reading this statement, and affirming it has been read prior to initiation, shall be part of the test for all prospective initiates.
Srila Prabhupada has clearly explained that devotees who are strictly following the Krsna conscious principles are acting on the liberated platform, and, as such, are pure devotees, even though they may actually not yet be liberated. [2] (Such unalloyed devotional service is not necessarily determined by one’s role or position of service, but by one’s realization.) Those who accept the service of diksa or siksa guru within ISKCON are mandated to be strict followers of the instructions of Srila Prabhupada, and, as long as they follow, they are acting on the liberated platform. Thus they may serve, as Srila Prabhupada ordered, as bona fide representatives of the Lord and the guru parampara and be a via media of their mercy. Yet it should be clearly understood that if such diksa or siksa gurus deviate from strictly following, they may fall down from their position. Thus, to act as a diksa guru in ISKCON means to serve under the GBC and in cooperation with other ISKCON authorities by functioning as a “regular guru” as Srila Prabhupada has directed.
A person who is liberated acharya and guru cannot commit any mistake, but there are persons who are less qualified or not liberated, but still can act as guru and acharya by strictly following the disciplic succession.” Letter to Janardana, 26 April, 1968. And: “We may not be cent percent perfect, but as far as possible, if we follow the instruction as it is, that much perfect. In this way one will get perfection. So one has to follow. ISKCON-London, South-London, Croydon, Crawley & Brighton
Brighton Mellows Around a hundred people from London and the surrounding areas headed to the south coast last month to attend the inaugural ‘Brighton Mellows’ kirtan event.
The event was such a success that plans are already under way for next year’s Brighton Mellows, which is set to be extended beyond this year’s six hours.
The six-hour event - which was professionally recorded for a special CD release - began with a talk by His Holiness Mahavishnu Swami, who then kicked off proceedings by leading kirtan. He was followed by various kirtaneers from Brighton and the neighbouring Crawley, Croydon and South London yatras, who all displayed ample talent and taste for the holy names, before a sumptuous prasadam feast was served.
Anybody wishing to purchase a copy of the CD, or for more details of next year’s event, can contact Krishna Gopal dasa on 07889921114.
Both experienced devotees and the public chanted, danced and feasted together in bliss all throughout the evening, which climaxed with a group conga inspired by Radha-Londonisvara dasa’s final, ecstatic kirtan. His Holiness Mahavishnu Swami then took the joy to the city’s streets, leading a harinam party through the streets, shops and restaurants of Brighton. Srila Prabhupada Book Marathon Dates: Saturday, 30th November to Tuesday 24th December The Srila Prabhupada Book Marathon, also known as Christmas Marathon, is upon us! It is a glorious time of year when there is an intense focus on the distribution of our jewels of wisdom, Srila Prabhupada’s books. Srila Prabhupada set aside December as the time where as many devotees as possible should make an extra endeavour to distribute as many of his books to the conditioned souls as possible.

“If one simply regularly chants and follows the rules and regulative principles all questions of philosophy will be answered by Krishna from within and all doubt will be cleared also in this way. And the same answers are there again in our books like Bhagavad-gītā As It Is, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, etc.” (Srila Prabhupada letter to Madhudvisa, Los Angeles, 14 Feb 1970)
