O n Fr iday Ju ly 1st, a team of Landings volunteers completed the first round of new gate sticker installations for all Landings Associations. This monumental undertaking took over 250 collective hours by seven volunteers working in 90+ degree heat and rain over a four week period. Pictured below is the volunteer installation team which included Mike Donaldson, Judy Greene, Jim Goldman, Mike Knupp, Christine Knupp, Tara Lamb and Barbara Pendrell. Not pictured but helping with data collection and the updating of schedules were Letitia Schuman, Dick Bayles and Elida Ramberger. Over the four week period, the team installed over 600 new stickers on residents’ vehicles and with a few exceptions, the process went smoothly.

Improvement to the Gate Entry Process

We are adjusting the sensors at the three gates to better pick up the signal from vehicles. In addition, we found that some stickers on a few new model cars will not function due to the type of glass used by the car’s manufacturers. In these rare cases, a new sticker designed for this type of glass may need to

be placed either outside on the windshield or, in some cases, on the headlight as recommended by the sticker manufacturer.

Bring your auto registration when you come to this event. Don’t ask the guards at the front gate for a new sticker. They don’t have them yet.

Distribution Schedule

During the sum mer and fa l l mont h s, t he com m it te e will continue the installation process. T h is w i l l a l low residents who didn’t receive decals during the first round, returning snowbirds, and other traveling residents to pick up their decals in a timely manner. In addition, as residents return t o T h e L a n d i n g s , we w i l l assess the need for additional distribution dates and times. In the meantime, we will set up an installation station in Eagles Point Circle for all residents on the following dates between 9-11 AM: July 30 August 30 September 30 November 30 December 30 If you return before the end of any of these months, your existing entry decal will continue to function until your new sticker is activated. The only exception is the entry lane at the South Gate. But remember, the new sticker will not work until it is activated into the system. That process

Future Process

may take up to four days so don’t remove your barcode sticker until we have gotten all the bugs out of the process.

Stickers for new vehicles and new residents will be obtained by filling out a registration form at the front gate where you will then be told when and where to get the new sticker. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we finish this project to enhance the safety of our community. Thank you.

Dick Bayles to be honored on August 15th Mark your calendars and plan to join your neighbors for a special event to honor the many years of service to The Landings by Dick Bayles. He has been a long-time leader in The L a nd i n g s M a n ag e me nt A s s o c i at ion , Landings Racquet Club, and Landings Home Owners Association. Dick is being honored for his many years of tireless work on behalf of our community with the naming and dedication of the Richard Bayles Park. A special recognition ceremony will be held at the LRC on Sunday, August 15th at 4 pm followed by refreshments. We hope you will join us at the poolside room for this welldeserved tribute.

Landings residents share their story By Dee Ricapito Newcomers a nd new f r iends i n T he Landings; Maider Carrasco and Javier Larrinaga, currently living at Eagles Point, recently became citizens of the United States. The best way to tell their story is in their own words. “We are originally from San Sebastián, Basque country, Spain. But, we lived in Seattle for seven years before moving to Sarasota last March. The beautiful beaches, the gorgeous weather and the possibility of working remotely influenced our decision. We found The Landings by accident but are so happy we did as we are really enjoy living here every day. In just three months, we have met wonderful people who we can already call friends. Our favorite routine is to walk to the

gazebo on the Nature Trail and around the neighborhood. We also love to go to Siesta Key with our bicycles that are loaded with beach chairs, an umbrella, and our picnic gear. Lately, we have started to play tennis which we love very much, well… when we hit the ball! But the excitement does not end with our Landings daily adventures. We became U.S. citizens last May which represents a very important milestone in our lives and we feel very proud of! Thank you for sharing your story with the Eagle and we are glad to welcome you to The Landings. P.S.: Ralph Ricapito remembers his Dad always saying, “The proudest day in his life is when he became a United States citizen.”

Eagles Point Circle Association ( E P C A) d id n o t a c c e p t t h e compromise LMA proposal to resolve the landscaping issue. An LMA attorney is working with the EPCA attorney to resolve the issue through mediation. LMA President Norm Olshansky shared his confidence the matter will be resolved. He will keep the board updated as needed.

KAYAK PROJECT

Gary Kurnov reported he and David Osborne installed the two kayak racks near the observation tower along the Nature Trail. Each rack will hold 12 kayaks. Kurnov will be reaching out to those selected by the lottery system for the 24 slots and the results are available on request. Each user will need to sign the Kayak Storage Agreement, pay the storage fee, and place their kayak in the rack within 30 days. The storage rack will accept a kayak, paddle board or canoe. The agreement has been finalized and will be distributed soon.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

C h a i r m a n M ic h ael K nupp repor ted t he com m it te e h a s unanimously approved a decal suspension for a three time speed violator significantly over the 10 mph limit. A motion was made to accept the recommendation of the committee. The motion passed.

WEBSITE

Website chair Elida Ramberger reported the committee has met several times, including twice with Paul Fullylove to consider ways to revitalize the website to meet current industry standards and make it easier to navigate for residents and others interested in The Landings. Adding new tools and capabilities and eliminating r e du nd a n c y a r e a mong t h e improvements being considered. The committee is recommending this be grouped in two phases. Phase 1 would improve upon what users see and use. Phase 2 would improve the unseen databases that ultimately allow improvement of functionality to reduce human intervention, management and provide the potential for future upgrades. In a word the objective is to streamline the website. The committee would like to add a more effective and valuable Marketplace, new photos, and videos. Home listings and rental i n f o r m at io n wo u ld a l s o b e accessible through the website. All pages for The Landings and content would be redesigned. A motion was made to move forward with Phase 1 changes at a cost of $2,479. The motion passed.

LAKES

Committee chair, Jeff Smith reported recent rains filled all Lakes to capacity. Lake outlets and the grates protecting them must be kept clear of debris and excessive algae buildup as runoff is channeled directly into the mangroves. The buoy system protecting Lake 1 from offsite plastic bottles will need to be cleaned more frequently raising maintenance costs slightly. Excessive algae growth will be an issue for at least the next four months. Due to the frequency lim it of algae t reat ment, additional treatment methods a r e b e i n g e x plo r e d. A n e w successful method would benefit all the lakes and particularly Lake 3 which has a long history of algae buildup. The fountain light timer issue on Lake 2 is being corrected as well as algae related issues affecting the fountain on Lake 3 and the fountain lights on Lake 2. A w r it t e n “h a rd copy ” of the Lake 1 project to begin in S ep temb e r wa s prov ide d to the homeowner most directly impacted as requested by

T he La nd i ng ’s Home ow ners Association.

LAKE MITIGATION PROJECT A survey of the Lakes in the Landings was undertaken in 2020 to determine which areas of our Lakes were in the greatest need of erosion mitigation. The two areas that stood out were the South bank of Lake 1 proximate to the inflow vault and the South bank of Lake 2 proximate to the inflow pipe. It should be noted that Lake 1 accepts a large volume of offsite drainage that flows with exceptional force during summer rainstorms. The impact on the South bank has caused a failure of the original rip rap (stones placed on the banks downslope intended to prevent erosion) with the effect of displacing portions of the bank creating a steep slope far greater than the 4:1 foot (that is, four horizontal feet for every 1 vertical foot drop) that was intended when the Lakes/drainage system was initially constructed. In addition, erosion from this area of the riverbank together with silt carried by the force of the runoff entering the lake has created a shallow area in the channel which limits the volume of water intended to be carried in the middle of the lake which in turn, creates more pressure on the banks of the lake. Because Lake 1 flows into Lake 2, a similar situation developed at the Lake 2 inflow which collapsed the bank and deposited silt in the channel leading to the Lake 2 outflow vault. It is likely that the added pressure this caused was a contributing factor to the partial collapse of the concrete support surrounding the outlet.

MITIGATION ACTION PLAN

In order to ensure the proper functioning of the Lake 1 and Lake 2 drainage system, to prevent flooding, and protect homeowner properties, LMA approved an erosion m it igat ion pla n that would address the two critical issues raised in the Lakes survey. The first part of the plan was to install 120 feet of six-foot-wide rip rap (6”-12” pieces of hand placed natural Florida quarried stone) at a 4:1 slope on the South bank of Lake 2. In addition, the failed concrete support around the outlet vault was removed and replaced with rip rap to the same specifications. LMA worked extensively with the LTA to ensure all concerns were satisfactorily addressed prior to the start of the project. Specifically, landscape was protected by plywood boards running from the street side source of rip rap previously deposited to the area of placement. No heavy equipment was used in the process Continued on next page

Continued from previous page as “mechanical wheelbarrows” transported the stone within the 15foot LMA right of way as measured from the top of the riverbank. The installation process was intended to take three days in February however with the cooperation of all concerned parties the project ran smoothly and was completed in half the allocated time. The next phase of the approved Action Plan is for Lake 1 and will take place in September. The failed rip rap on the South bank proximate to the inflow vault will be removed and replaced with 157 feet of a six- foot-wide revetment at a slope of 4:1. The same process will be used: no heavy machinery, landscape protected by plywood, hand placement of stone and at our request, the same Lake 2 crew that performed professionally with a

AUGUST 2021 27th State Media, LLC

very satisfactory result. All work will be intended to take place in the 15-foot LMA right of way starting from the top of the bank. Other details include a five working day schedule although with continuing cooperation from all involved, we believe this can be shortened. The LMA Safety and Security Committee will be consulted to be sure the necessary delivery/staging of rip rap will be done to minimize disruption of North Gate traffic patterns. While work on the South bank is proceeding, an attempt will be made using a small boat and or hand labor, to disperse the silt island in the middle of the channel. While this will benefit the flow of water in the short term, it is not a long-term solution. This will need to involve and be sponsored by Sarasota County who maintains a right of way in the middle of the lake.

Stakes have been placed on site which mark the beginning of the 6-foot-wide revetment running into the lake. Vegetation which now covers the failed rip rap will be removed during the project. LMA will replace in kind if requested by the homeowner and or LHA. The Lakes Committee stands ready to answer any questions or concer n s t h at LHA, LHA la ndscape or i ndividual homeowners may have. It is important that all work together, s o t he pr o j e c t r u n s qu ic k ly a n d s m o o t h ly l i m it i n g a ny inconvenience to the homeowner and neighbors. August – the summer doldrums. The longest day of the year has passed but it’s still hot, humid a nd t he days a re f i l led w it h afternoon thunderstorms. Our AC’s are running full blast and we start sweating just walking from our car into Publix. We try to get our tennis in the morning before the temperatures soar past 90 degrees – but since it’s not our high season, court times are not as difficult to reserve. Aug ust a lso mea n s t he 3rd tennis Grand Slam, Wimbledon, has finished and we’re well into the summer hard court season. Big tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati will be played under swelter i ng temperat u res a nd the last Grand Slam of the year will be played in New York – the US Open. As the US Open is the closest major to us in Florida – many of our members have attended this very prestigious tournament.

News From the Court

www.islandvp.com

As Kevin has updated, we’ve done a lot of club improvements this year – new water fountains, net posts, wind screens and our major project – the Lakeside room and kitchen. As you have seen, we are completely renovating the kitchen (finally!) and will be painting the main room to make it brighter. Many thanks to Kevin, Hans, Edvin, Karmen Pierce and Sue Lewis for a lot of time and effort to complete the Lakeside renovation, getting creative to save us some money! And as you’ve se en, we’re doi ng t he summer court resurfacing – one of the reasons are courts are kept in such great shape. With Covid in our rear view m irror – we’ll beg i n to ramp up our social activities in the Fall. An important part of our club and something we’ve all missed during the pandemic, we’re com mitted to make the new social programs better than

ever. And Paige Packman has graciously assumed the social committee chairwoman position – so we’re in good hands for a full calendar. Stay tuned! The Landings Racquet Club – Tell Only Your Best Friends

Happy Hour Returns

By Adrian “Mo” Moghina The volley is one of the most important shots in ten nis. Consequently, it is also one of the easiest shots to learn. It is important because it gives you the opportunity to finish the point after you have set yourself up to receive an easy put away ball. This is especially true in doubles. He r e a r e s om e g e n e r a l characteristics of various playing levels regarding the players volley as defined by the USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association): A 2.0 player frequently swings at a volley and is reluctant to play the net. This player has poor footwork and avoids backhand volleys. A 2 . 5 pl aye r c a n a ng le a forehand volley when set up. Does not bend for low volleys (usually drops the racquet head). This player is still uncomfortable at the net,

especially on the backhand side and has grip problems. A 3.0 player has consistent forehand volleys. Frequently uses forehand racquet face on backhand volleys. Can be offensive on set ups. Inconsistent backhand volley when using backhand racquet face. Has trouble with low and wide balls. A 3.5 player is becoming more aggressive at the net. Has some ability to cover side shots. Uses proper footwork. Can direct forehand volleys. Consistent contact, but little offensive on backhand volleys. A 4.0 player has depth and control on forehand volley. Can direct backhand volleys, but usually lacks depth. Developing wide and low volleys on both sides of the body. A 4.5 player can handle a mixed sequence of volleys. Has good footwork. Has depth and directional control on backhand

volley. Developing touch. Most common error is still over hitting. A 5.0 player can hit most volleys with depth, pace and direction. Can hit either flat or under spin volleys. Plays difficult volleys with depth. Given opportunity, volley is hit automatically for a winner. I hope this gives you a basic guideline for improvement and setting your goals. See you on the courts!

Manager’s Report By Kevin Lechlitner Thank you to all the members that helped me celebrate my 15year anniversary at the Landings Racquet Club last month. We had a small reception in the Poolside Clubhouse to mark the occasion complete with cake for everyone that wanted a piece. A special thank you to Mayson Brooks for organizing the event. It is hard to believe that it has been 15 years already. Things have come a long way at the club since 2006. I’m excited to see what the future has in store for the LRC. As I mentioned last month, the annual court resurfacing project will begin at the beginning of August. The 45,000 pounds of Har Tru were delivered at the end of July so we are ready to go. T h i s ye a r, cou r t s 1- 4 w i l l receive a heavier lift of clay and new line tapes. Courts 5 – 8 will

get a lighter lift and keep their lines for one more year. In the summer of 2022, the schedule

gets reversed. This way, every other year the courts receive a substantial amount of clay and new lines. He r e i s a n up d at e o n t h e La keside Clubhouse proje ct. The beadboard ceiling has been installed and looks great. The cabinets in the kitchen and bar area were built and put in place by the end of July. Now that t he cabi nets a re i n, t he new flooring can be installed and the countertops will be measured and ordered. All the new appliances have been delivered as well. Once everything else is done, the last item on the schedule is a fresh coat of paint on the entire inside of the building including both bathrooms. If things continue on schedule, I’m hoping to put some before and after pictures in the September issue of the Eagle to see the finished product!

★★★★★ TripAdvisorReview May 15, 2021 BEST SEAFOOD I HAVE EATEN IN MANY YEARS

From the Grill...

Fresh fish your way: Grilled or Blackened & topped with Lemon Butter, Pico or Salsa, Soups, Sandwiches, Steam pots & more!

From the Market...

Large selection of fresh seafood. Special Orders Welcome!

Feeling crabby? Come on down and enjoy our fresh crab cakes. You can order them three different ways! 1. Crab cake appetizer 2. Crabby BLT sandwich 3. Crab cake dinner! Then to finish it off with a piece of homemade key lime pie.

The comfortable, cozy environment and the display of fish available was very appealing. I like fresh, scratch cooking and this was absolutely beyond my expectations. The clam chowder was the best I have ever ordered and included a clam in the shell. The crab cake was amazing and made with crab and spices and not cluttered with breadcrumbs. I am gluten-free and this is the first crab cake I have ever been able to order. It was delicious. I will be in Sarasota in a few months and will return to enjoy more delectable seafood. Hats off to the chef and the outstanding staff!

Gazebo Stairs Extension Project By David Osborn and Allsion Taylor (Nature Trail Co-Chairs) with a special thanks to Michael Garnett of “Garnett Custom Remodeling” It i s ou r g r e at ple a su r e to announce the reopening of The Landings gazebo after extending the stairs back onto dry land. The situation before was that anytime the tide was high you would have to jump over to the stairs to avoid getting your feet wet. This prevented many of our residents from being able to get onto the Gazebo. The solution was to extend the gazebo stairs back approximately eight feet onto dry land. As you

can see from the before and after pictures below, the stairs are now located in a much better place wh ich w i ll benef it ou r community for years to come. Please take a walk down the trail when you get a chance and enjoy the fully accessible gazebo now at your leisure. Our final project will be to raise the level of the nature trail by add i ng add it ion a l g ravel to the existing low spots. Stay tuned!

Seashells…Natures Gift Found on Siesta Beach By: Dee Ricapito

Seashells have always captivated me. Whether they were large and very plain clamshells that we played with on the Atlantic City, NJ shore as a child. (They made great ash tray gifts back then)! These days you will find small but intricate shells each one different and has its own story. The small animal that lived within the seashells thousands of days may contribute to its life. I love the thousands of fantastic shells found along every beach on Siesta Key including Crescent

Beach, by the Point-of-Rocks. The many small and large rocks in this natural formation is a great place to look. (Especially the morning after a storm — when the shells roll in. There’s something special about finding a shell intact straight from the source. Sand dollars are often found on sandbars (little tidal islands) off the beach where new sea treasures are deposited each evening. When they wash up on the beach and bleached by the sun they look like silver coins. When one is broken open,

five little doves (pieces) fall out; these are the Sand Dollar’s teeth. It’s a lucky day if you find one—since there are not many spots in the U.S. where they can be found. If you’re lucky, you can also find sharks teeth on Siesta Beach coming from Sand sharks or Hammerhead sharks. You can possibly find these treasures because you can see them thru the crystal clear waters where the water meets the land. It’s just the beach lovers’ ideal souvenir.

Raw Food Refresher: Change Your Dog’s Diet for Big Benefits By Kyle Baker, Senior Pet Food Nutritionist at DOGPerfect If you’re a regular reader here, no doubt you’ve seen us talk about the tremendous benefits a raw diet can have for your pup. Yes, dogs are omnivores, and supplementing your dog’s diet with plant-based options is fine. But in the short and long term, there’s no substitute to the health advantages of a raw diet. As genet ic descenda nt s of wolves, dog’s are equipped to digest animal flesh and bone. Their carnivorous roots are so significant, in fact, that without raw food they’ll not only miss out on benefits but also suffer from nutritional deficiencies that can lead to a host of health issues. Let’s revisit the raw diet and take a deeper dive into how it can enhance your dog’s health.

Defining a Raw Diet

A raw food diet, very simply, con si st s pr i m a r i ly of raw u ncooked food. Though raw recipes vary, common ingredients like muscle, organs, bone, raw eggs, and dog-friendly fruits and vegetables can create clean, hearty meals for your pup. This dietary structure allows your dog to access nutrients more easily through digestible, real foods while avoiding the kinds of sugars and chemicals typically found in processed foods. It also gives you, the pet parent, a great deal more control over what your dog is consuming.

Digestion and Raw Food

Hydration, Dental Health and More

Aga i n, t he key t h i ng to consider when choosing your dog’s diet is nutrition, and going with a raw food diet will allow your dog to process nutrients as intended by taking advantage o f n at u ra l c a n i n e d ig e st ive physiology. D o g s d o n ’t p o s s e s s t h e en zymes required to beg in breaking down carbohydrates in their mouth—the kinds of carbs found in kibble and many processed foods. Plus, dogs’ s t o m a c h s a r e h ig h ly a c id i c which allows them to take on t he b ac te r i a fou nd i n me at. S o, n a t u r a l l y, t h e r e d u c e d ingredient load, calorie density, and high bioavailability of a raw diet lets dogs absorb nutrients more effectively and efficiently. With this superior digestibility, your dog can make the most of every meal’s available vitamins a nd nut r ients. T h is boost i n nutrient intake increases energy and improves immune function over time, reducing the risk of ailments and diseases as dogs age. Add it ion a l ly, w it hout t he presence of indigestible fiber or excess carbs they can eliminate waste with less work more consistently, while also strengthening their anal glands thanks to firmer stools.

Apa r t f rom t he not able nutritional benefits, there are a number of additional positive outcomes of a raw diet, starting with hydration. Kibble focused plans and other dry diets can leave your dog dehydrated, leading to reduced d i g e s t i ve f u n c t i o n , s l o we r waste removal, and potentially recurring urinary infections and crystals. The higher moisture conte nt of raw fo od d i lute s urine allowing your dog to more frequently and easily flush toxins and maintain healthy urinary function. T h i s a d d e d h yd r a t i o n i s advantageous both inside and out, as a moisture-rich raw diet aids natural oil production that supports the life cycle of healthy skin and fur. In fact, one of the first things pet parents notice after switching their dog to raw food is how great they look. Nat u r a l , p r oble m - s olv i n g components—like amino acids that support cellular protein f u n c t ion a nd e n z y me s t h at aid cellular regeneration and intra-cellular hydration—help promote healthier skin and fur and minimize allergic reactions. With health ier sk i n a nd fur, you’ll also notice a reduction in dry skin and shedding, another welcome benefit that your pup—

and vacuum—will love. Raw food can also improve your pup’s smile. The combination of enzymes from raw meat and a little healthy friction as your dog chomps tasty meat and bones can help combat oral bacteria, reduce plaque and tartar buildup, cut down on potential dental infections, and even give your pup fresher breath.

Selecting a Raw Diet

While there’s no debating the benefits of going raw, there are st ill a few th i ngs to keep i n mind—specifically, which type of raw diet is best for you and your pup? Depending on your lifestyle, you could opt for a homemade diet. Just be sure ingredients achieve nutritional benchmarks a nd don’t forge t to add r e s s logistics, as raw food requires more time, prep, and cleanup, plus proper cold storage. If you don’t have that kind of bandwidth, com mercial opt ion s—t hough costly—are great, with proper prep, nutrition, and logistics l a r g e l y add r e s s e d f o r yo u . Or…a combi ned homem adecommercial plan could be the right move. For those who remain hesitant, t he r e’s st i l l a not he r c hoice: traditional canned and kibble products paired with raw options can ease you and your dog into a

better, if not ideal, diet plan. Finally, if you’re ready to make the move to raw, visit your local independent pet retailer first. From the selection to the staff, you’ll find exactly what you need to help your dog live a happier, healthier life. About the Author: Kyle Baker, Senior Pet Food Nutritionist at DOGPerfect, has a passion for educating pet parents on the power of nutrition and how it can improve their pet’s lives with proper food, supplements, and treats. With over 17 years of industry experience, he has h e lp e d c h a n g e t h e l ive s o f thousands of pets.

Landings Anglers Beware Here at The Landings, we have the pleasure of being able to fish from our beautiful gazebo at the end of our well known Nature Trail on the Intracoastal Waterway. I would like to alert our resident anglers to the hardhead catfish, especially the anglers who are not familiar with Florida’s saltwater fish species. I had an unfortunate incident involving a catfish on one of my recent fishing excursions, landing me in the Sarasota Memorial Emergency Room. After catching one of these catfish, I made the mistake of trying to take it off the hook with my bare hands. While attempting to remove the hook from its mouth with my pliers, the hook slipped from my pliers allowing the fish to impale one of its pectoral fins barbs a full threequarters of an inch into my hand. This particular catfish barb contains a powerful toxin, similar to a bad bee sting, and this one

was now attached to my hand. Since I wasn’t able to pull the fish’s barb out the way it had gone in, I decided to cut the barb from the fish’s body and head to the emergency room. The sting of a Florida saltwater hardhead catfish is something you do not want to ignore as it is venomous and if left untreated, can lead to a serious infection. After what seemed like forever (about 4 hours including wait time, a one-hour slow drip antibiotic IV and a hand full of Lidocaine) in the Sarasota Memorial Emergency Room, the doctor was finally able to extract the barb from my thumb and then sent me home with a 10-day prescription for yet more antibiotics. A few weeks later, after I had mostly healed, I learned of another angler suffering a similar fate with a catfish at the gazebo. I decided to write this article

Florida saltwater hardhead catfish (Ariopsis felis). Photos by David Osborne

to warn other anglers of the potential danger with this fish to hopefully prevent anyone else from going through this painful experience. There are many ways to safely remove saltwater hardhead catfish from your line and I recommend researching on the Internet to find a method that works best for you. I decided on carrying a leather glove with me now whenever I go fishing so I can safely secure the fish while removing the hook from its mouth.

The pectoral fin barb that was removed from my thumb, and the damage it caused.

I am an experienced angler and have grasped these fish with my hand for the past forty years without any major incidents. Moving forward, I will avoid touching them whenever possible. Fishing is fun! Just be careful and educate yourself on the defense mechanisms of the different saltwater fish species before you head out to fish. I did end up with a nice souvenir.

This gemstone will amaze you! Looking into the water at Siesta Key Beach is an incredible, captivating feeling - hues of blue and green dancing in light waves on top of crystal white sand with sunlight reflecting on it. Undeniably, the “Siesta Key Watercolor GemstoneTM” has captured the colors of this experience. It’s no secret that the sand on Siesta Key Beach is composed of 99% pure quartz. The crystalline white sand of Siesta Key is luxurious, soft, white and cool to the touch 365 days a year. This is why our beloved beach has been revered as one of the most beautiful in the world. Wanting to capture the experience and essence of Siesta Key beach was the goal of the proprietor of Silver City, Monica. “Tourists always wish they can somehow take their vacation memories with them,” so with this in mind, Silver City designed the Siesta Key Watercolor GemstoneTM. They were able to capture the colors of Siesta Key’s blue/green water and put it into a quartz gemstone. This quartz gemstone is a fusion of the tropical colors that surround us. Just looking into the clear, beautiful gemstone will transport you back to our island paradise representing the Sea, Sky and beautiful sand of Siesta Key Beach. Silver City has now become a “Must Stop” destination for tourists (Currently named #1 shopping destination on TRIP ADVISOR on Siesta Key). Shining brightly among the cases of this uniquely mirrored store lies the much raved about Siesta Key Watercolor GemstoneTM. Every jewelry piece is designed and made by Silver City Sarasota. The staff of Silver City Sarasota is very proud of their unique collection and variety of designs in Sterling Silver and in 14K gold.
