MEET THE
2016 HOSTS 2016
Two of the nation’s best collegiate golf programs have come together to host the country’s premier college golf tournament. The University of Central Florida joins the University of North Texas in hosting this year’s Tavistock Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Golf & Country Club. In its twelfth year, the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational has been an important tournament for both schools, providing a stage for an array of great performances and moments that have helped shape the golf programs of both universities, establishing them as top forces in college golf. Isleworth has been the site of the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational since 2004, when UCF and Tavistock Group partnered to develop a tournament designed to give collegiate players and coaches the feel of a PGA Tour event. UCF has played host to the tournament ever since. Recognized as one of the leading college golf competitions in the nation, the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational offers collegiate golfers the opportunity to play on one of the toughest courses in the nation against the best in the game. Each year, the three-day tournament invites 15 of the nation’s finest collegiate teams to compete for the coveted title. UCF and UNT’s participation and association with the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational has helped both schools recruit a deep talent pool for their respective golf programs.

ISLEWORTH COURSE The history of Isleworth’s golf course is as storied as its original designer. When golf legend Arnold Palmer first saw Isleworth, he realized it was the ideal setting to build a championship golf course. Weaving around pristine lakes and amid grand cypress trees, Isleworth’s picture-perfect course layout was carved into 600 undeveloped acres of citrus groves before a single home site was plotted. Palmer’s genius vision, combined with Steve Smyers’ redesign of the course almost 20 years later, have made Isleworth one of the world’s truly great courses.
“The undulating terrain and hills of Central Florida have made Isleworth a very special golf course. The feeling we hope members will all have after playing 18 holes at Isleworth is that they would like to go right back out and play another 18 holes.” –ARNOLD PALMER isleworth golf course designer
53
FRONT NINE The front nine at Isleworth tests the mightiest of players, rating two strokes tougher than the back nine. Holes 1 through 5 are characterized as the most difficult stretch on the course, and of the devilish first five holes, the opening hole is the only realistic birdie chance. Few have been able to play the second and third holes under par, and these two holes continually yield more bogeys than any others on the course. Many a golfer has seen four or five shots easily disappear on this stretch of holes.
FUN FACTS The first double eagle made on Hole 7 was made by Arnold Palmer in 1986 and the last double eagle was made by Ryan Longwell (NFL kicker) on his way to victory in the 2006 Club Championship. Rickie Fowler made an incredible par on Hole 2 by holing his third shot from the hazard.

BACKNINE The back nine is less menacing than the front nine in terms of difficulty but requires a little thought and effort to overcome strategic hurdles, including severe slopes and multiple-level greens. Nowhere does the course come more alive than the 11th, known for its thousands of colorful flowers and shrubs. The 14th and 15th are nearly as picturesque, with views of Lake Butler, the biggest of all the lakes in the Butler Chain. The 16th is the last real chance for a birdie before reaching the pressure-packed 17th and 18th holes, which call for both accuracy and length and present two of the most challenging greens on the entire golf course.
FUN FACTS Lee Janzen birdied Holes 10-17 and pared 18 to shoot 28 in 2008. In 2009, Tiger Woods and staff member Lowell Miller both double eagled 17 on back-to-back days. On his way to victory in the 2008 Tavistock Cup, JB Holmes had 86 yards left to the pin on the 18th hole.

“The most rewarding things you do in life are often the ones that look like they cannot be done.” − ARNOLD PALMER
ARNOLD PALMER 1929 - 2016
Many tributes will be offered to Arnold Palmer for his broad contributions to the game of golf and the communities he called home. We offer our thanks to him and note we are better for having known him. Isleworth was his dream, and along with his friend Mark McCormack, they conceived a community that would celebrate the best of Central Florida’s natural beauty and honor the game he loved. Isleworth will always be linked to Arnold Palmer. We also acknowledge his almost single-handed effort to establish the Orlando metropolitan area as the home of golf. The game of golf has been instrumental to this region’s growth and prosperity, and we all are indebted to Arnold for this happening. He leaves many legacies, heroic victories, business achievements, philanthropic gifts and most of all cherished friendships. We honor him best in how we care for Isleworth going forward and the game he so loved. In big and small ways, we are all a part of Arnie’s Army.
