MRS. DAVID A. DREILING SURGERY PRIZE IN MEMORY OF HER MOTHER, FLORENCE L. OPPENHEIMER
Alexandra Zoe Agathis Alexandra came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) from the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in Biology and graduated magna cum laude with Distinction in Biology. While at Penn, she played Division 1 field hockey and performed muscular dystrophy genetic therapy basic lab research under Dr. Lee Sweeney. While at Icahn, Alexandra has spearheaded numerous research projects, including a prospective quality of life study focused on geriatric patients undergoing cholecystectomies. She has published three first-author articles in the American Journal of Surgery, American Surgeon, and Surgery Open Science, and co-authored additional articles in Academic Medicine and Pancreas. Alexandra presented her work at the Annual Academic Surgical Congress in 2019 and 2020, and won a “Best Poster” recognition at ISMMS’s Medical Student Research Day in 2019. Additionally, Alexandra actively served the community as an organizational leader of the Surgery Interest Group, the Medical Discovery of Careers afterschool STEM program, the ISMMS COVID-19 Student Workforce, and ISMMS Student Council as a class representative. In 2021, Alexandra was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Alexandra would like to thank her parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends for their endless support. She would also like to thank her Mount Sinai faculty mentors, Dr. Celia Divino, Dr. Susan Lerner, Dr. Daniel Herron, and Dr. Beverly Forsyth, for their continued guidance. Alexandra will graduate with her MD degree, with Distinction in Research and Distinction in Medical Education. She will continue her residency training in General Surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital.

JAMES FELT AWARD FOR THE PROMOTION OF SOCIAL AND RACIAL JUSTICE MOUNT SINAI ALUMNI STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD
James Richard Blum James came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Brown University, where he majored in Chemistry. Before attending Icahn, James worked as a legislative aide for two years on Capitol Hill for Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter. He entered the MD program in 2016. While at Icahn, James participated in and helped lead the Human Rights and Social Justice Program where he worked on a project examining Medicaid in East Harlem, the Segregated Care Workgroup where he worked to eliminate segregated healthcare at Mount Sinai, and East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership as Operations Chair and Pharmacy Chair. He also served on Student Council as President and Treasurer, the COVID-19 Student WorkForce, and Sinai Students for Civic Engagement. James published eight articles in peer-reviewed journals and conducted projects on disparities in neonatal care and medical students’ views on health policy and justice. He also spent a gap year pursuing a Master in Public Policy (MPP) at Harvard Kennedy School. In 2020, James was elected into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. James would like to thank his parents, family, partner Denisse Rojas Marquez, friends, and his many mentors who helped him reach this point. PATRICIA LEVINSON AWARD FOR THE ADVANCEMENT AND INCLUSION OF WOMEN IN MEDICINE
Efrat Bruck Efrat came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the Lander College of Arts and Sciences (Touro College) where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Biology Honors. Before attending Icahn, Efrat taught high school Biology, Hebrew, and Judaic studies. She also conducted research in nephrology at Columbia University and published articles in Nature and the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. While at Icahn, Efrat worked for Khan Academy and created 30 MCAT preparation videos on topics in molecular biology, DNA, and genetics. Her videos have been published on the AAMC website, Khan Academy, and YouTube, accruing millions of views on the latter. She served as secretary of Icahn’s AMWA chapter for one year and published research with Sinai’s Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine. Efrat is heavily involved with JOWMA, the Jewish Orthodox Women’s Medical Association, where she founded and leads their PreMed Society, helping advance women from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine. Efrat would like to thank the following for supporting her journey: her husband Yonah Berwaldt, her daughters, Meyrav and Yaelle, her parents, Naftali and Yehudit Bruck, her mother-in-law Cathy Berwaldt, brother-in-law Ariel Berwaldt, and her nine brothers and sisters: Devora, Yair, Refael, Yechiel, Avishai, Yedidya, Nechama, Elisha, and Binyamin. DR. M. RALPH KAUFMAN PSYCHIATRY PRIZE PORTAL THESIS AWARD IN CLINICAL RESEARCH OFFICE OF WELLBEING AND RESILIENCE MEDICAL STUDENT WELL-BEING LEADERSHIP AWARD
Jordyn Heather Feingold Jordyn came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the University of Pennsylvania where she majored in Health and Societies with a concentration in the Environment and Health. Before attending Icahn, Jordyn received a Master’s of Applied Positive Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania where she graduated with honors for her capstone work on positive psychology approaches to physician well-being and burnout. She simultaneously worked as a clinical research coordinator managing three large, randomized control trials related to wearable devices and the effect of active choice language on patient’s health care decisions. She entered the MD/MSCR Patient-Oriented Research Training and Leadership (PORTAL) program in 2016. While at Icahn, Jordyn participated in IcahnBeWell, founded the Practice Enhancement Engagement Resilience and Support (PEERS) program and the Positive Medicine Nexus Course, and served as a class representative and steering committee member of student council. She practiced as a mental health senior in East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership, served on the Admissions Committee, became a TA for the Art & Science of Medicine Program, and was a student advisor. Jordyn conducted longitudinal research supported by the PORTAL program in the IBD Center studying the gut-brain axis and studied the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of health care workers with the Office of Well-Being and Resilience. Jordyn was also elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2020. Jordyn would like to thank her incredibly supportive family and friends, Ira, her mentors including Dr. Keefer, Dr. Ripp, Dr. Simon, Dr. Peccoralo, Dr. Hurtado, Dr. Hargrove, Dr. Katz, Dr. Edwards, Dr. Charney, Dr. Southwick, Dr. Gabrilove and Dr. Sigel, the Office of Well-Being and Resilience, the PORTAL program, and the Office of Medical Education. DR. MORRIS B. BENDER AWARD IN CLINICAL NEUROLOGY
Caroline Florence Gentile Caroline came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Harvard College where she majored in Neurobiology. After graduating from college, she entered the MD program in 2017. While at Icahn, Caroline participated in the Student Interest Group in Neurology as a co-leader, the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership as a Teaching Senior, and the Learning Communities Institute as co-chair. She was also a mentor for MedDOCs and Sinai Big Sibs, and a senior tutor for Sinai Peer Tutoring. Caroline contributed in multiple clinical research projects within the Department of Neurology at The Mount Sinai Hospital, which resulted in two first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals. Caroline would like to thank her fiancé, family, and friends for their unwavering support, and her faculty mentors at Sinai who have enriched her medical education and inspired her to become a neurologist. Caroline will graduate with her MD degree and continue her residency training in Neurology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

DR. ALAN F. GUTTMACHER OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY PRIZE PORTAL THESIS AWARD IN CLINICAL RESEARCH THE JUDITH AND NATHAN KASE HUMANITIES IN MEDICINE PRIZE
Chloe Getrajdman Chloe came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the University of Pennsylvania where she majored in Health and Societies. She entered the MD program in 2016. While at Icahn, Chloe enrolled in the Patient-Oriented Research Training and Leadership (PORTAL) program to earn a Masters of Science in Clinical Research along with her medical degree. During her research year, Chloe worked with the Department of Anesthesiology on various clinical and translational research projects on postpartum hemorrhage and coagulation disorders of pregnancy. Chloe is most proud of her work at the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership (EHHOP) clinic, and in particular, her work as Chief Teaching Senior of the Women’s Health Clinic. Chloe would like to thank Dr. Daniel Katz for being an incredible research mentor and advocate, and Drs. Farida Nentin and Cynthia Abraham for their amazing teaching and dedication to the EHHOP Women’s Health Clinic. Chloe also would like to thank all of her clinical mentors and advisors, especially Drs. Katherine Chen, Lauren Ferrara, Whitney Lieb and Adam Jacobs. Finally, she would like to thank her family and friends for their love and support, particularly her amazing sister Sabrina, her partner John, her friend Mackenzie, and her grandma Regina. Lastly, Chloe thanks her parents Joanne and George, who are her first and forever role models. Chloe will graduate with an MD and Masters of Science in Clinical Research and will continue her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Mount Sinai Hospital.

DR. HAROLD LAMPORT BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH PRIZE
Corey Michael Gill Corey came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Boston University, where he double majored in Human Physiology and Anthropology. Before attending Icahn, Corey worked as the Coordinator of Research for the Central Nervous System Metastasis Program, Co-Director of the Neurooncology Brain Donation Program, and Database Manager for the Brain Tumor Center in the Department of Neurology and Cancer Center at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He entered the MD/MSCR dual-degree Patient-Oriented Research Training and Leadership (PORTAL) program in 2016. While at Icahn, Corey was awarded the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Tumors Neuro-Oncology Trainee Award. He was the recipient of the American Heart Association Medical Student Fellowship Grant, The Mount Sinai Hospital Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science Innovation Grant, Friedman Brain Institute Pilot Grant, and Rare Disease Foundation Pilot Grant. Corey has published over 55 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Corey would like to thank his wife Alison, his family, and numerous mentors in the Department of Neurosurgery for their support. Corey will graduate with his MD/MSCR degree and continue his residency training in Neurosurgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

THE BARRY COLLER AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN CLINICAL MEDICINE
Aliza Green Aliza Green came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Dartmouth College, where she majored in History. Before attending Icahn, Aliza was an intern for a music and art festival, worked for a corporate recruiting agency, and spent six months traveling and hiking in South America. She entered the Humanities and Medicine Program in 2016. While at Icahn, Aliza participated in the Mount Sinai Human Rights Program (MSHRP) as a clinic manager and student director, and took a scholarly year to build a tele-mental health expansion program of the MSHRP. She also led the Medical Ethics Student Organization, conducted research in Kampala, Uganda, and was elected into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Aliza would like to thank her friends, family, Matt, and the incredible faculty members who have served as role models and mentors to her over the past five years. Aliza will graduate with an MD and continue her residency training in Internal Medicine/Primary Care at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

MOUNT SINAI ALUMNI STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD
Taylor Harrell Taylor came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) from Spelman College, where she majored in Comparative Women’s Studies with a focus in women’s health. Before attending Icahn, Taylor served as a fellow at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). During her fellowship, she worked with the infectious disease team to support a local Tuberculosis Control Program as well as the 2019 Ebola Response. She entered the MD program in 2019. While at Icahn, Taylor has served as President of ISMMS Student National Medical Association, an Executive Committee Member of Mount Sinai’s Task Force to Address Racism, and student representative for Mount Sinai Hospital’s Community Advisory Board. She has served as co-leader of The Doula Project and was recognized this past summer by New York Academy of Medicine as a Margaret E. Mahoney Fellow in Health Policy to support her research in maternal health disparities. In addition to leadership and research, Taylor continues her passion and commitment to mentorship through her involvement with Girls Empowered through Medicine and Science (G.E.M.S.) and the First Generation Scholars Program. Taylor would like to thank her parents, three younger brothers, close friends, and many mentors who have always encouraged her to “think big” and continuously serve as an invaluable source of support. Taylor will graduate with her MD degree in 2023.

DR. JOSEPH R. JAGUST ANESTHESIOLOGY AWARD
Sigal Israilov Sigal came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter, where she majored in Biology with a concentration in Behavioral Neurobiology. She entered the MD program in 2016 through the FlexMed Early Assurance Pathway. While at Icahn, Sigal participated in various activities at the intersection of quality improvement and advocacy, including East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership Consulting, the Student High Value Care Committee and Diversity Innovation Hub, where she co-founded the DIH Connections Event Series. She spent a scholarly year as part of the Value and Safety team at NYC Health and Hospitals, working to improve care quality across the city’s safety net system. These efforts were nationally recognized with awards from America’s Essential Hospitals, American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Society of Hospital Medicine and the Society of General Internal Medicine. Sigal would like to thank her family, friends and partner for their support along the way. She’s also grateful to her mentors over the years, who’ve broadened her horizons and empowered her to hone in on her passions. Sigal will graduate with her MD degree with a Distinction in Research and continue her residency training in Anesthesiology, at The Mount Sinai Hospital.

MEDICAL SCIENTIST TRAINING PROGRAM (MSTP) SERVICE AWARD PATRICIA LEVINSON AWARD FOR THE ADVANCEMENT AND INCLUSION OF WOMEN IN MEDICINE
Jennifer Elizabeth Long Diaz Jennifer came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the University of Minnesota where she majored in Genetics. Before attending Icahn, Jennifer studied human genetics at the National Institutes of Health as a postbaccalaureate fellow. She entered the MD/PhD program in 2011. While at Icahn, Jennifer completed her PhD in the laboratory of Dr. Ross Cagan. She studied breast cancer genetics and genomics using Drosophila, and has published computational genomics work in breast cancer that began during an internship at IBM. She has served extensively in patient care, education, and research at the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership (EHHOP). She has been an advocate for women in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) as the co-founder of an advocacy student group and leveraged her experience as a mother during training, overseeing multiple scholarly pursuits on gender disparities in MD/PhD programs. Jennifer would like to thank research mentors Dr. Cagan and Dr. Stolovitzky, the MSTP leadership including Dr. Baron, Dr. Swartz, and Dr. Hurd, the Women in Science and Medicine community including Dr. Masur and Dr. Parkas, the EHHOP community especially including clinical mentor Dr. Meah, her thesis committee and clinical advisors, and finally, her parents Margaret and Dean. Jennifer will graduate with her MD and PhD degrees and continue her residency training in Internal Medicine at UCLA.

BURTON DRAYER PRIZE IN RADIOLOGY AND BIOMEDICAL IMAGING
Sayan Manna Sayan came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the Ohio State University, where he majored in Biology. He entered the MD program in 2017. While at Icahn, Sayan participated in the Student COVID Pharmacy Task Force as a student leader at the downtown headquarters during the initial surge in early 2020. He participated in student council as a Housing and Academic IT representative and served as the head TA for the Physiology course. He both published and reviewed articles in a number of disciplines including radiology, ENT, neurosurgery, and medicine. Sayan would like to thank his family, friends, and the amazing faculty and trainees at Sinai who have helped build the strongest possible foundation for his clinical career. Sayan will graduate with his MD degree and continue his residency training in Radiology at Washington University at St. Louis.

STEVEN B. TAMARIN, MD, MEMORIAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN FAMILY MEDICINE
Jesse Tyler McChane Tyler came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the University of Louisville, where he majored in Economics and later completed a postbaccalaureate pre-med program. Before attending Mount Sinai, Tyler helped to establish the Family Community Clinic, a free clinic in Louisville, Kentucky where he served six years as the volunteer coordinator. He entered the MD program in 2017. While at Mount Sinai, Tyler participated in the Primary Care Scholars Program and InterACT primary care clerkship, the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership free clinic, Students for a National Health Program, the Family Medicine Interest Group, and the New York State Academy of Family Physicians, where he served as the state’s student delegate to the AAFP National Conference. His research focuses on disparities in health and healthcare delivery experienced by homeless individuals. Tyler would like to thank his family (Rick, Deb, and Cody) and his partner, Lindsey, his mentors at the Family Community Clinic, his Dreams with Wings families, Autumn Henry and everyone in the Department of Family Medicine and at IFH, and especially Dr. Sta. Ana, Dr. Andrew Coyle, and Dr. Joshua Issack. Tyler will graduate with his MD degree and continue his residency training in Family Medicine at the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho.

HAROLD ELSTER MEMORIAL PRIZE FOR CLINICAL ACUMEN
Michael Sachs Miller Michael came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) from Northwestern University, where he majored in Political Science. Before attending ISMMS, Michael hopped across the pond to receive a Masters of Science in Sociology from the University of Oxford, where he studied the colonial underpinnings of current health disparities. He entered the MD program in 2017. While at ISMMS, Michael participated in the Mount Sinai Human Rights Program, co-led the Human Rights and Social Justice Program, and volunteered with the COVID-19 Student Workforce. He published numerous articles in peerreviewed journals for which he was awarded a Distinction in Research, and was elected into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Michael would like to thank his Mom and Dad, his partner Siona, his brother and sister-in-law, and his grandparents, who have been an unwavering source of love and support, and without whom none of this would be possible. He would also like to thank his many faculty mentors who have taught him what it means to care with compassion and constantly given him something to aspire to. Michael will graduate with his MD degree and continue his residency training in Internal Medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School.

Aisosa R. Omorogbe Aisosa came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Loyola University Chicago, where he majored in Molecular Biology. Before attending Icahn, Aisosa worked as a physical therapy technician at Athletico Physical Therapy in Chicago. He entered the MD program in 2016. While at Icahn, Aisosa served on the MedStart executive board, an enrichment program that exposed middle school students to different aspects of the medical field. He co-founded a pipeline and pitch day program through Diversity Innovation Hub to support the development of innovative ideas addressing social determinants of health. Aisosa was involved in a number of clinical research projects culminating in publications and presentations at national conferences. He also served as an application screener for the medical school admission committee, a teaching assistant for Molecular, Cellular, and Genomics and structures courses, and a senior tutor. Aisosa would like to thank his family and friends for their support and guidance throughout the years. He would also like to thank his faculty mentors at Sinai who have contributed to his personal and professional development and made his medical education such a rewarding experience. Shravani Nischal Pathak Shravani came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Columbia University where she majored in Neuroscience and Behavior. Before attending Icahn, Shravani worked as a research technician conducting gustatory neural circuit research under Dr. Richard Axel at the Columbia University Medical Center. She entered the MD program in 2017 after being accepted through the FlexMed program. While at Icahn, Shravani participated as Vice President and Treasurer of Student Council, a part of the Human Rights and Social Justice Scholars program, American Medical Women’s Association Co-President, Doctors for America Co-President, and South Asian Medical Students Association CoLeader. For her work, she has received recognition as a Merit Scholar and a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society as well as an awardee of a Distinction in Research and the Student Council Appreciation award. She has had the opportunity to publish her work in multiple fields and present at several conferences over the years including the annual American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery conference. Shravani would like to thank her parents for giving her the foundation to achieve her dreams of becoming a physician and teaching her how to persevere and strive for excellence. She would also like to thank her friends who have been pillars of support through the fun and challenging moments of medical school. Denisse Ilse Rojas Marquez Denisse came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from UC Berkeley where she majored in Sociology and Integrative Biology. Before attending Icahn, Denisse engaged in activism for the undocumented and immigrant community in California. In 2012, she co-founded Pre-Health Dreamers to provide resources, advocacy and create a community for undocumented young people like herself. She entered the MD program in 2015. While at Icahn, Denisse participated in the Human Rights and Social Justice Program, the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership, was co-president of the Latino Medical Student Association, a member of the Mount Sinai Community Advisory Board, and continued her advocacy for undocumented individuals pursuing careers in the health professions. She was a 2018 TEDMED speaker where she discussed her journey to medicine and challenges in the health care system. Denisse also completed a master’s in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Denisse was a recipient of the 2016 Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, the AAMC Hebert W. Nickens Award, and inducted to the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Emma Adele Rosenbluth Emma came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Tufts University, where she majored in Community Health and Spanish. Before attending Icahn, Emma completed a year-long service fellowship with the JDC, the leading global Jewish humanitarian aid organization, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and worked as a clinical research assistant in anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medicine. She entered the MD program in 2016. While at Icahn, Emma participated in the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership as a Spanish Interpreter, Clinic Manager, Senior Clinician, and Teaching Senior. She was also active in the Mount Sinai Human Rights Program, the Medical Student Training in Aging Research Program, co-lead the Medical Spanish program, and served on both the Promotions Committee and LCME self-study committee. She completed a scholarly year in the Division of Liver Diseases primarily studying non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in pregnancy, resulting in multiple presentations and peer-reviewed publications. Samuel Gus Ruchman Gus came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Harvard University, where he majored in African and African American Studies, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Before attending Icahn, Gus worked in the Office of the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Health in Agenda 2030 and for Malaria. He entered the MD program in 2016 through the Humanities and Medicine program. While at Icahn, Gus participated in the Mount Sinai Human Rights Program as a Student Director, served as an ACCESS case manager, and co-created the program’s national Remote Evaluation Network during a Scholarly Year. He conducted research with AMPATH in Eldoret, Kenya, worked at the Arnhold Institute for Global Health, and was a Mount Sinai-GLG Global Health Scholar. His honors include the U.S. Public Health Service Physician Professional Advisory Committee’s Excellence in Public Health Award; election to the Gold Humanism Honor Society; and the American Heart Association’s Student Scholarship in Cardiovascular Disease. Also while at Icahn, Gus published several first-author research manuscripts and op-eds and presented at conferences on diverse topics in global health, human rights, ethics, and clinical internal medicine-pediatrics. Gus would like to thank his partner, Sarah Rose, as well as his parents, brother, and sister-in-law. He would also like to thank the extremely thoughtful and dedicated faculty, staff, and student collaborators, too numerous to name, who supported him during medical school. Charles Matthew Sanky Charles came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) from Columbia University, where he studied Psychology, Business Management, and Public Health. Before attending Icahn, Charles advanced public health policy with the NYC Health Department and U.S. Senate. His broad experiences included community-based research, IT operations, education, immigration consulting, and campus leadership. He entered the MD program in 2016. While at Sinai, Charles served in various leadership, education, public health, and community service roles. He has been a member of the Admissions Committee, participated in the LCME Self-Study Committee, enhanced opportunities for global health and health policy engagement, performed musically, designed and implemented curricula across several courses, performed health equity and medical education research, and led student efforts in Sinai’s COVID-19 clinical trials and operations. During his NIH-funded research year, he assessed social determinant risk factors among emergency department patients and completed his MPH degree. This past year, Charles helped build regional healthcare coalitions, conducted health services research, and co-found Sinai’s Center for Healthcare Readiness. Charles earned the IME Excellence in Teaching Award, seven Blue Ribbon research awards, three research grants, and awards in research, service, and medical education from national societies of anatomy, neurology, and emergency medicine. He is a member of the Gold Humanism and Delta Omega Honor Societies. Charles strives to design improved, equitable systems of care. Charles appreciates his family, friends, God, and mentors. THE MILTON C. ENGEL, MD, AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN GERIATRIC MEDICINE
Sulaiman Salim Somani Sulaiman came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he majored in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. During his time at Georgia Tech, Sulaiman discovered his love for scientific research after completing his undergraduate thesis in organometallic catalyst synthesis. He entered the MD program in 2015 by early acceptance into the Science and Medicine Program. While at Icahn, Sulaiman co-founded and led algorithm development at Monogram Orthopedics, a startup that automates 3D-printed patientpersonalized implant generation for robotic total joint replacement surgery. Through this venture, he has been issued one patent with another one pending and helped raise over $20M in funding so far. He has also been an active researcher, having published over 40 publications with four as firstauthorships, served as a reviewer for JACC Cardiovascular Imaging and Frontiers in Medicine, and received the SINAInnovations’ Trainee Innovation Idea Award this fall. Sulaiman would like to thank his family, especially his mother Shirin, and his wife Lisa for their boundless love and endless support. His research mentors, Drs. Douglas Unis, Anthony Costa, Eric Oermann, and Benjamin Glicksberg, for their tireless guidance. His clinical inspirations, Drs. Tonia Kim, Andrew McFarlane, and Jagat Narula, for instilling a love of patient stewardship. He would also like to thank the departments of Internal Medicine and Cardiology, and his friends, especially Sukrit, for their tolerance, cheerleading, and love. Rachel Ann Wilkinson Rachel came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Yale University, where she majored in Political Science with a concentration in Health Policy. Before attending Icahn, Rachel worked as an associate program officer at Pharos Global Health Advisors, helping to lead a research project on expanding HPV vaccination in low and middle-income countries. She entered the MD program in 2016. While at Icahn, Rachel participated in the student-run Segregated Care working group and the Mount Sinai Healthcare Equity Taskforce. She has helped lead research demonstrating segregated healthcare between Medicaid-insured and privately insured patients as witnessed by medical students on clerkships. This research has been used for advocacy across the hospital system and has also been presented at the Advocacy in Medicine Conference, to the New York Physicians for a National Health Program, and to the New York City Council. In addition, she has been involved in global health research in Kampala, Uganda, the Human Rights and Social Justice Program, and efforts to promote diversity in medical school admissions through Icahn’s chapter of the Student National Medical Association. This year she was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Rachel would like to thank her family and friends for their unending love and enthusiasm throughout her training. She would also like to thank her amazing mentors at Mount Sinai who have given her so much wisdom and support in all these endeavors. THE ARTHUR CEDERBAUM MENTORING BY A GRADUATE STUDENT AWARD
Turner S. Baker Turner came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he majored in Immunology and Microbiology. Before attending Icahn, Turner worked at a biotechnology startup, Aptitude Medical, and within the Byun Lab at Mount Sinai’s Precision Immunology Institute. He entered the Clinical Research PhD program in 2017. While at Icahn, Turner participated in and initiated various innovation programs within Mount Sinai, winning the 2017 Health Hackathon, serving as a Hackathon Program Organizer for 2018 and 2019, and helping found the Targeted Healthcare Innovation Fellowship (THRIVE) in 2020. He served as a co-author and Entrepreneurial Lead for the NSF Innovation Corps and was the Primary Investigator for CTSA 4D Technology Award and Tufts-JHU Trial Innovation Designlab, Turner also founded his own consulting firm, Neoteric Consulting Group, which assists early-stage life science startups on shortterm consulting projects. His doctoral work will have led to six first-author publications and multiple medical device patents. Turner would like to thank his friends and family for the endless support and encouragement. In particular, he would like to thank his mentors, Drs. Anthony Costa and Christopher Kellner, who enabled and advocated for him and his projects since the beginning. Denise Croote Denise came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Brown University, where she majored in Biology. She entered the PhD program in 2016 and joined the Schiller Laboratory of Affective Neuroscience for her dissertation work. While at Icahn, Denise received a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and published her thesis work on the role of time representation in decision-making in Scientific Reports. She was co-president of Mentoring in Neuroscience Discovery at Sinai, an outreach organization that exposes children to the STEM field of neuroscience, and taught an introductory neuroscience course at Patrick Henry Preparatory. She also served as an e-board member of Women in Science and a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. In 2020, she received the student award for Excellence in Community Service. Denise would like to thank her parents, brother, classmates, and the Schiller and Gu Laboratories at Sinai for making her graduate training an unparalleled experience. Denise will graduate with her PhD degree in Neuroscience and plans to continue her computational neuroscience training.

Kavya Devarakonda Russo Kavya came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Georgetown University, where she majored in Neurobiology. Before attending Icahn, Kavya was an intramural post-baccalaureate fellow at the National Institute for Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. She entered the Neuroscience PhD program in 2015. While at Icahn, Kavya participated in the Women in Science trainee group and was its President for three years. She was also a member of the Sinai Women in Science steering committee, the Friedman Brain Institute DiverseBrains steering committee and a mentor for the First-Generation Scholars group. Kavya was a recipient of an NIH T32 grant and the American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship, as well as the Friedman Brain Institute’s BRAIN Award and Student Council’s Leadership Award. Kavya would like to thank her PIs Sarah Stanley and Paul Kenny, and the Stanley and Kenny labs for their guidance; other members of the Neuroscience Department, particularly George Huntley and the Cai/Shuman labs for their support. THE TERRY ANN KRULWICH DOCTORAL DISSERTATION PRIZE
Conor Gruber Conor came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Cornell University, where he majored in Biology. Before attending Icahn, Conor worked as a research technician, studying the development and treatment resistance of pancreatic cancer. He entered the MD/PhD program in 2015. While at Icahn, Conor worked in the laboratory of Dr. Dusan Bogunovic, studying genetic causes of rare pediatric autoinflammatory diseases. For this work, he was awarded funding by the Mindich Child Health Institute Pilot Grant and placed on the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Training Grant. During this tenure, he served as a TA for the BMS course and volunteered in the student-run free clinic. Ultimately, his research culminated in the publication of four first-author manuscripts published in Cell, Immunity, JEM, and Cell Reports describing novel inflammatory pathogenies in MIS-C, and how mutations in JAK1, STAT2 and ISG15 affect immune response in children. Conor would like to thank his mentor, Dr. Bogunovic, and his entire thesis committee for their constant support, encouragement and guidance. He would also like to thank his lab-mates and friends across Mount Sinai. Conor will graduate with his PhD degree and will resume his medical training at Mount Sinai.

Roxana Mesias Roxana came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Wheaton College (MA) where she majored in Biochemistry. Before attending Icahn, Roxana, was a research associate in the Department of Neuroscience in the laboratory of Dr. Benson at Mount Sinai. She entered the Neuroscience PhD program in 2015. While at Icahn, Roxana participated in mentoring and leadership activities. She was a mentor for the First-Generation Scholars group; member of the Student Affairs Committee, and co-chair of Professional Development for Women in Science. Roxana was the recipient of an NIH-T32 grant, the Autism Speaks Weatherstone Pre-doctoral Fellowship and the NIH-NRSA (F31) award. Most recently, Roxana received the Student Council’s Leadership Award. Roxi would like to thank her advisors George Huntley and Deanna Benson for their guidance and encouragement. Roxi also thanks her current and previous labmates and students for being such an amazing team and making every day fun to do science. Shikha Nayar Shikha Nayar came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from Duke University, where she majored in Biology, with a focus in Genetics and Genomic Sciences. Before attending Icahn, Shikha worked as a Research Associate, investigating Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation at Mount Sinai. She entered the PhD program in 2016, where she began working on mechanisms underlying Crohn’s disease. While at Icahn, Shikha participated in many leadership initiatives through Student Council, leading the PhD Leadership Meeting, and advocating for women in STEM through Women in Science and Medicine. She was the recipient of the Women in Science Travel Award last year and recently published her dissertation work in Nature.
