ABOUT THIS PORTFOLIO This portfolio is geared towards the desire to work as an Architectural Visualization Designer. Throughout my experiences in the Interior Architecture program from the University of North Carolina @ Greensboro, I’ve often time wondered which path of a designer I would be embarking on in the future. It wasn’t until my completion of my study abroad program from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea that I was able to realized what I wanted to do. Having studied graphic design while obtaining my BFA, I fell in love with the ability to layout a page or used different graphic styles to add depth to my architectural work, as well as to attract interest to the project. I wanted to do something that would be able to combine the two worlds of design together and becoming an Architectural Visualization would accomplish that goal.

The concept of the Canopy House is “Universial Design, where the users of the home can age-in-place through a series of solar-powered dwelling and smart home technology like the DIEM (Data Integrating Engineering and Mechanics) wall that aids in an independent lifestyle. This design would provide the owner a safe and sustainable environment, which would include strategies such as tactile displays, audio-visual and wheelchair accessibility. Also, with passive ventilation and daylighting keeps the interior house comfortable and merge the interiors of the home to its exterior. The main objectives of the Canopy House is being able to design a self-sufficiency home that, regardless of hysical impairments and limitations, all living conditions would be met and satisified.

The concept of Bangbae Garden involves human interactive spaces - where regardless of age, ethnicity, & genders, the audience can enjoy themselves in an environment that would promote interactions with the building and its surroundings. This engagement would stimulate the human senses and hopefully influence a profound thinking of tomorrow’s world while enjoying today. The concept mixes nature & futuristic designs together to allow the ability to interact with nature as one. Adapting the name “Bangbae” from the street location of the site + “Garden” as a metaphor for a product of growth, this building becomes “Bangbae Garden”, meaning to grow as a whole unity within the community; growing together with the environment, & experiencing the uniqueness of the space with other users.

THIS CONCEPTUAL INTERIOR DESIGN USES GREEN BUILDING MATERIALS FOR THE STRUCTURES AND LOTS OF OPEN WINDOW TILES TO ALLOW DAYLIGHTING WITHOUT THE USAGE OF ARTIFICLE LIGHTING DURING THE DAYTIME FOR A MORE SUSTAINABLE BUILDING. THIS RELAXATION LOUNGE AREA COMPLIMENTS THE SURROUNDING CAFES OF BANGBAE STREET BY ALLOWING USERS TO ENJOY THEIR DRINKS OR MEAL WITH FRIENDS WITHOUT BEING IN DIRECT COMPETITION. THE ICONIC BUILDING WILL DRIVE MORE TOURISM INTO THE SURROUNDING AREA.

THERE ARE NEON LIGHTING INSTALLED WITHIN THE FRAMED STRUCTURE TO ALLOW THE BUILDING TO SHINE INSIDE AND OUT DURING NIGHTTIME TO KEEP THE ATTRACTION OF THE ICONIC BUILDING ALIVE 24/7.

CONCEPT: CREATIVE INTERACTIONS BY EXPLORING THE DIFFERENT SPACE POSSIBILITIES WHILE ULITIZING EFFECTIVE MATERIALS, LIGHTING, & CREATIVE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN BOTH ADULTS & KIDS ALIKE, THE SPACE BECOMES MORE THAN MERELY AN AREA OF PLAY, OR WORK, BUT INSTEAD, BECOMES A FUSION BETWEEN ALL THAT IS POSSIBLE. THE SPACE WILL WELCOME DIFFERENT TYPES OF INTERACTIONS AND FORM CREATIVE IDEAS/THOUGHT PROCESS BY BEING EXPOSED TO MANY DIFFERENT ELEMENTS. THIS DESIGN PROJECT WAS DONE FOR GREENHILL OF NC ART. WANTING TO UPDATE THEIR ARTQUEST SPACE INTO A MULTIPURPOSE ROOM FOR THEIR FUTURE EXPANSION OF ADULT PROGRAMS THAT WOULD ALSO ALLOW KIDS THE FREEDOM OF CREATIVITY STILL WITHIN THE SPACE. ALL DESIGN ELEMENTS FOCUS ON THIS ASPECT, RANGING FROM COLORS OF FURNITURE SELECTIONS AND PLACEMENT/USAGE OF THESE FURNITURES TO WORK INDIVIDUALLY OR TOGETHER AS A WHOLE WITHIN THE SPACE. BUDGETING WAS ALSO TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION TO ADVANCE THE PROJECT INTO THE NEXT STEP AND MAKE SURE THE CONSTRUCTION WOULD BE POSSIBLE.

SOUTHWEST VIEW THE TABLES ARE REPLACED BY A MORE MODERN PIECE, GIVING THE SPACE A MORE STUDIO LOOK. COLORFUL ARRANGEMENT OF CHAIRS ALLOW THE SPACE TO POP OUT WITHOUT CONFLICTING WITH OTHER ELEMENTS. THIS ALLOWS THE SPACE TO BE SUITABLE FOR BOTH ADULTS AND CHILDRENS’, MAKING FOR A BETTER PRESENTATION FROM THE OUTSIDE PERSPECTIVES. WITH THE ADDITION OF BENCHES, SEATINGS ARE EASIER TO STORE BY SLIDING THEM UNDER THE TABLES. THE STRING ART ABOVE USES THE TRACK LIGHTS SYSTEM TO CREATE AN AESTETIC CEILING TEXTURE TO THE OVERALL SPACE.

SOUTHWEST VIEW ULITIZING FLOOR SIGNS + DOOR SIGN TO DIRECT TRAFFIC INTO THE MAIN ENTRANCE OF ARTQUEST. STRING ARTS IS ALSO IN PLACE TO CREATE A DIVIDING CURTAIN WALL. THIS ALLOWS A UNIQUE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SPACE UPON ENTERING FOR THE USERS BUT ALSO WILL KEEP IT SAFE FOR THE CHILDREN. A SINGLE SET OF HOOK ON THE BOTTOM COLOUMN EASILY ALLOWS FOR THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE STRING ART’S APPEARANCES.

EAST VIEW

BY CREATING AN ATTRACTIVE MURAL DESIGN ON THE EAST WALL, THIS WILL CAPTURE THE AUDIENCE ATTENTION FOR THAT “WOW” FACTOR. ALSO, BY BLENDING THE DESIGN ONTO THE DOOR, IT’LL HELP STOP DIRECT INITIAL TRAFFIC TOWARDS THIS ENTRANCE BY GIVING THE USERS AN ILLUSION THAT THIS PORTION OF THE ROOM IS A SOLID WALL. THE STORAGE UNIT IS REPLACED BY A CHALKBOARD WALL ON THE SOUTH WALL TO DO DRAWINGS AND OTHER WORKS ON. THE GRASS MAT ENABLES SEATING AND COLLABORATIVE PLAY. MINIMAL STORAGE UNITS IS DONE FOR A CLEANER LOOK.

NORTH VIEW

BY CONCENTRATING ON A MORE MODERN AND CLEAN SPACE, BOTH OUTSIDE AND INSIDE PERSPECTIVES OF THE SPACE WILL CHANGE. USERS IN THE SPACE WOULD APPRECIATE THE DRASTIC CHANGE, PROMOTING A MORE MOTIVATED AND CREATIVE MIND TO WORK IN. USERS OUTSIDE WILL WANT TO ENGAGE THE NEW SPACE AS ALL THE FURNISHINGS AND ACTIVITIES INSIDE WILL BE MORE ORGANIZED AND LOOK MORE PLEASING.
