House redesign

About the house: the house is located in East Jerusalem, it was built back in 1951, it is a single story house with front garden. the exterior walls are constructed of natural local stone with a thickness of 0.8m, the western wall is shared with the neighbours. 2/3 the eastern elevation are large windows of 2m height. the house lacks privacy, proper solar radiation due to the interior stone wall that faces the large window, improper zoning.

Children creativity centre

home is the safiest place for children, it is the place which comforts them, they make their first memories within its walls. the three masses with their pitched roof were designed simulating the typical image of house. the yards are surrounded by the building creating an overwhelming atmosphere. the used colors which are yellow and blue spreads positive vibes among little children.

two main movement axis were determined in the ground floor and first floor plan connecting the three masses together and creating a long path for children to move through freely.

Masjid

Al Rahma masjid

the Masjid is a place where muslims pray, attend religious lectures and other activities. the main space in Masjid is the prayer hall. the concept here was to emphasize the importance of prayer. the prayer hall was divided into four blocks connected with four walls each reprents the four main directions ( east, west, south, north). the concept came from the religious belief which states that the prayer is column of religion, if prayer was honest and sincere, whole human deeds would be reformed and blessed.

NORTH ELEVATION

in the prayer hall, symmetry was used to confirm the equality between people, as it is the true message of Islam, the right equals the left, the front equals the back and vice versa. they are all equal in front of the mightyAllah. West elevation

Directory of Education Residency of Nablus

Why Postmodern? it embodies the philosophy that this kind of building should be SYMBOLIC of what government is about , noy just places where public business is conducted. A way to try to shape this legacy and the way people regard their goverment through it’s public buildings. Post modern architecture Reflects regional architectural Traditions. The large front in thebuilding underscores the axial layout in the composition. the arch extending into the construction supports the complex sequence of walls creating cavities and setbacks sections with semi-concealed glass.

Traditional guest house Old city of Nablus Guest house is a type of lodgging hosting Families and others. the purpose of this guest house in the old city of Nablus. is to host families whom haven’t seen each in a while. the traditional architecture with it’s elements and functions provides what the families need to feel home and overwhelmed.

Palestinian Traditional Architecture is the term set for the architecture that had been erected in a traditional way, materials, and techniques. Mainly with affordable local materials, the owner and mason reacted to the nature and climate. Palestinian traditional architecture had been affected by other cultures, although some techniques and building materials are still in use since the pre history time. A series of details and mutual components have been developed, and a set of common elements and details started to be known and used as typical ones. Social and economical life played a role in the traditional architectural styles, for economical reasons low income people were not able to built the same houses as those of rich people.

Square redesign urban design

Martyrs’ Square is the main city square. It serves as a business, cultural and social center of Nablus City. Many historical events occurred there, and it is a veteran setting for demonstrations, celebrations and other public gatherings. In addition, it’s a link between the Old town of Nablus and the new commercial district in the city. Nablus Martyrs’ Square has always been where the cultural, political, and—as uninspired as it might be—the commercial come-together. The fast growing of the commercial aspect in the square, makes it an attractive spot for investors and merchants; however the greed led to undesirable chaos. the old city of Nablus surounds the eastern side of the square so the square today is a mix between the old and contemporary buildings. the buildings were built from 1850- 2000 B.C. the method of redesign focused on how enriching the square commercial flow in respect to the building heritage. we searched for old photos of the square in order to maintain the square’s authenticity.

undesirable chaos with its random distributed billboards and unplanned circulation of pedestrian and vehicles and the unclear services distribution. Aspiring to create a successful combination between a friendly social pedestrian space and a smooth safe vehicles path, and recall the Square’s cultural and historical value, this proposal suggests: 1) Increase sidewalks width and decrease street width (one car lane), which makes the sidewalks more social, comfortable and settable. Vehicle circulation will be reorganized, high traffic congestion in the square will be decreased by distributing car routes passing through the square to the adjacent streets. 2) Sets up more outdoor furniture (setting places: stone benches, shade: trees, water fountain: cooling, appropriate streetlights, waste baskets, bicycle stand), and using it to emphasis the entrances of the malls and the old city and to direct the pedestrian movement according to the zoning. 3) Remove the gas station in the ground floor in the complex, due it’s unsafe position in the city center. 4) Replace the gas station with Cafe-Information center, the view from the cafe will be a panoramic view of the site that fuses the old Nablus with the new, the old represented with old city facade (humble heights and traditional openings), and the new with the modern buildings facade (big heights and modern openings). 5) Organize outdoor advertising, because the main cause of the dense visual pollution is the randomly distributed billboards. The organizing will by through: Removal of the old billboards, uniting the new billboards style and adding sun shades to the street shops. 6) Organizing the street venders, by gathering them in one zone in the site.
