n Monday, 31 March 2014, Qwaqwa United Taxi Association’s (QWAUTA) PRO Thabo Mokoena told EFS Issue that from 1 April 2014, local taxi transport fares will have increased by R2 effectively, to all local destinations in Qwaqwa. He pointed out that some of the reasons for the taxi fare increasing includes the petrol price hike, as well as the cost of tyres and vehicle (taxi) maintenance. Before the increase, the taxi fare varied between

R7.50 and R9.00 Mokoena said a consultation meeting was held with the community, informing them about the circumstances that led to the taxi fare increase. According to Mokoena, community members didn’t argue about the taxi fare increase. Taxi driver Isaac ‘Bra Big’ Ntsasa said that there is nothing they could do because the petrol price is increasing regularly. He indicated that to maintain a taxi (Quantum)

costs thousands of rands. Other taxi drivers are a bit concerned that the increase in taxi fares would affect their work, because some commuters would decide to rather walk from home to work rather than catch a taxi. Meanwhile taxi fares in Bethlehem also increased recently to R10 per trip! In photo: Local taxi driver Isaac Ntsasa taking money from a commuter. By Letsielo Mosia

Buying Or Selling Immovable Property (Part 1) From the Lawyer’s pen

D

espite the modern era of technology, cell phones, internet and access to information of whatever kind, it is saddening to see how many people do not know their basic rights and obligations, especially with regards to immovable property. Immovable property is something like a vacant stand, house, flat, business premises, etc. Consider the following: Joe Gutter sells a house to Luke Chimney for R250 000. Luke pays the purchase price, Joe vacates the property and Luke moves into the house. Then Joe dies and his children want the house back and they demand that Luke moves off the property. Luke’s defense is that he bought the property from Joe and he is the owner thereof. Joe’s children go to an attorney who informs them that the property is still registered in the name of Joe Gutter and was never transferred in the name of Luke. The result? Luke has

Promotion T

he second annual Free State enterPRIZE Job Creation Challenge was launched on 18 March 2014 at the Windmill Casino and Entertainment Centre in Bloemfontein. This exciting competition is aimed at job creation through the development of small and medium enterprises in the Free State. The competition which is a partnership between the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DETEA), the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) and the Flemish International Cooperation Agency (FICA), will see contestants compete to win one of 75 prizes totaling R 7.5 million. Last year alone the Free State enterPRIZE Job Creation Challenge attracted in excess of 540 entrants from aspirant entrepreneurs across the Free State province. Jens Dyring Christensen, ILO Chief Technical Advisor says, “One of the important means to address the very high levels of unemployment in the province is through the stimulation of entrepreneurship and innovation allowing potential and existing entrepreneurs to identify and exploit new market opportunities thereby creating more economic growth.” To enter the competition, or for more information visit www.enterprizejobchallenge.co.za. Entries close on 2 May 2014.

Mkhwanazi who was then selected for the Free State squad, attended a camp at the SAFA Regional Offices in Welkom (29 March-1 April). From 2-5 April, the provincial squad will be representing the Free State at Soweto’s Nike Centre where a National Cham-

The fixture for the Free State games will be as follows: 2 April: vs Mpumalanga and 3 April vs Kaizer Chiefs. “I feel happy to have reached this level and for being the only one from Bethlehem. Bikers donate to Mafube Int. School

M

aluti Bikers, Moifo, Rhino Riders and Big Fellas from Maluti-a-Phofung donated food parcels and uniforms to needy children at Mafube Intermediate School last Friday in QwaQwa. “We have decided to donate these food parcels and uniform to this school because some of the learners are from poor families,” said Maluti Bikers President S’phiwe Beqezi. He pointed out that though it may not be enough to address the plight

of the kids they plan to do more in future. The school received R6,500, twenty kids got uniforms and ten food parcels. Beqezi stated that in the winter they will be donating blankets to old people in QwaQwa, Kestell and Harri-

smith. Setlabotjha Sepheka, a biker and former learner at Mafube hoped that their donations would bring joy to the kids. Maluti-a-Phofung, HDM Catering, BiBi Cash and Carry, Kamohelong Luxury Accommodation and Ntsoaki Driving School played an important part in helping the bikers make the donation to Mafube. School Principal Motiisetso Masiteng thanked all the people who contributed.
