The main task of a logistic operator is to make the best and easiest plan for people to get from the workshop/home to the rally location and on site. A tour operator is also in constant contact with the rally organisation, in order to organise all the facilities in the service park. Another task is to provide the team with all kinds of materials they need to work. During rallies a tour operator manages and solves many kinds of problems that the team may encounter.

My first job in motor sport was in customer competition for Renault Sport, where I was in charge of the organisation of rally cups. This is where the basis of all my rally knowledge comes from. I had the chance to meet and work with experienced people.
What does your life look like now?
My job involves travelling a lot and I really like that. Of course, there are a lot of working hours and you tend to forget what weekends or bank holidays are. But it is really worthwhile when you are passionate about your job and when you work for a top team and the best rally drivers and co-drivers in the world.
Your advice for the next generation
Constantly set yourself challenges, and don’t rest on past achievements. Always try to improve and give everything of yourself.

JOB TITLE Team Principal, ROKiT Venturi Racing
First work experience
I worked in my parents’ motorbike shop from an early age. I was involved in every aspect of the business, from making sure the displays were perfect to back-of-office tasks such as stock-taking, and I absolutely loved it. I used to have a long check list and I really enjoyed the sense of achievement that came from ticking things off. That ethos of being methodical and working through things one by one has stayed with me.
What does your life look like now?
Life looks really good. It’s a fantastic balance of being a mother, a wife and a Team Principal. It’s not always easy and there are plenty of challenges, most of them logistical, but I feel extremely lucky to have found a role that’s so connected to my passion for motor sport.
Your advice for the next generation
Believe in yourself. Find out what it is that you feel passionate about, what you’re good at, and go for it. Don’t be scared to stand up for yourself and be seen and heard. Foster your resilience and be determined. Work hard, push yourself and never, ever lose the belief in your abilities.
You can follow me on my social media channels and write to me there.

JOB TITLE Senior Strategy Engineer, Alfa Romeo Racing
First work experience
Growing up in Central London there was not much motor sport around! My First work experience was an internship in a Medical Engineering Department in a Hospital. The first opportunity I had to get involved with motor sport hands on was joining my Formula Student team at Cambridge University. Formula Student is brilliant as it’s a way to learn theory; practical skills; and good practice dealing with the heartbreak that comes with a DNF. It also gives you a network of likeminded people, who become friends you’ll end up seeing in an F1 Paddock 5 years later!
What does your life look like now?
I travel to all Races and Tests, then work back at the factory in Switzerland between events. At a race weekend you can find me sitting on the pit wall, in charge of strategy.
Your advice for the next generation
If you view crossing the finish line as the measure of your life, you’re setting yourself up for a fall. Getting a job offer in F1, making a newsworthy strategy call or even winning a championship sitting on a Pit Wall are very rare, singular moments. You need to celebrate in the moment but recognise that the preparation for those moments is your life, and that’s the richness of your life. The daily setbacks and comebacks on the way, how we shape ourselves to rise to that challenge, is life. Ultimately, we can’t control 100% if we arrive at our desired professional destination. Too many variables are out of our control. There’s really just one thing we can control: our attitude and daily decisions, keeping us headed in the right direction. So, work hard, network, and enjoy it.
I am an ambassador for Dare to be Different, which is an initiative founded by Susie Wolff to inspire, connect and showcase women in motor sport. You can join at www.daretobedifferent.org.
