Determine Percentage Distribution A percentage distribution shows the percent each component is of the total. In the following example, the sale amount for each department is a component of the total sales. To determine the percent for each department, divide each department’s sales amount by the total amount. This is the same basic formula used to determine rate: R=P*B.
