Spiritual Formation and Serviam , “I Will Serve” Ursuline education is rooted in the belief that students’ spiritual life is to be nurtured and developed. Through an array of curricular and extra-curricular activities, Ursuline students discover the possibilities that faith in Jesus Christ offers. In formal classroom settings, teachers offer education in theology. Likewise, classes in literature, social studies, and the sciences align the strong tradition of Catholic social teachings into discussion and analysis of topics at hand. Students’ faith is further nourished through the annual retreat program and during school-wide Eucharistic liturgies and studentled prayer services. Daily life at Ursuline begins and concludes with

a time of prayer and includes the opportunity to spend time in one of two chapels, where daily Mass is offered. All Ursuline schools share a commitment to forming students as servant leaders. Under the banner of the Latin word, Serviam, Ursuline students and alumnae reach out in service to society. The combination of service projects initiated by the students and servicelearning activities incorporated into classroom instruction develops the spirit of Serviam. What begins with defined activities that address community needs expands into the understanding of local and global issues that call for action in the promotion of peace and justice for all.

Class of 2017 Student Voices

Every delegation I traveled on with Ursuline has been a life-changing experience. I have learned how to adapt to new situations and appreciate new cultures…to meet people where they are and recognize that as different and unique as every person is, there are things we all share that make us human.

Freshman year was full of questions for me…By graduation, my chin was high and I was sure of myself. I carry myself with complete confidence that I can take any challenge that comes my way without any hesitation.

Going to Ursuline really opened up my eyes to my faith. While learning more and more about God, I really became interested in Catholicism and growing my own faith. Through the years at Ursuline, I found myself wanting to learn and grow deeper in the meaning of God.

There are so many advantages to attending an all-girls school, especially the community. The allgirls environment encourages young women to explore and participate in all subjects. It has allowed me to form my own independent way of thinking.

Serviam calls us to be a light to others and to share that light with all those we meet. I developed a true passion for service at Ursuline, and I know this call to something greater will follow me and my fellow sisters for the rest of our lives.

My teachers have inspired me, and they have had faith in me when I’ve doubted myself. They have given me the means to not only learn but take what I have learned and think for myself. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without these wonderful role models.
