PRESIDENT & PRINCIPAL CELEBRATING 30 YEARS! WELCOME TO MASQUER ADE, MARDI GR AS 2020! Tonight we look back on the history of the Ursuline Academy Mardi Gras Gala with tremendous gratitude for our community’s commitment to scholarships. Over the past three decades, proceeds from this event have funded more than $25 million in financial assistance for Ursuline students. Our celebration also looks ahead, joyfully embracing the needs of today’s deserving young women who would otherwise be unable to attend Ursuline. Your support makes it possible to offer more students the opportunity to experience the innovative teaching and learning, caring community, and spirit of Serviam that distinguish an Ursuline Catholic education. A very special thank you goes to our Honorary Chairs, The Haggar Family, our Event Chairs Jody Dodson, Tiffany Luedtke, and Gina Porter, and to all the volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make this event possible. So let the night begin! And may the Masquerade be revealed in the festive fun and success of our evening as it unfolds. Thank you for joining us!
Gretchen Kane and Andrea Shurley 3
URSULINE SISTERS DEAR FRIENDS OF URSULINE, THE GUESTS ARE WEARING MASKS TONIGHT. NOW A MASK IS WORN AS A DISGUISE, TO CONCEAL ONE’S IDENTITY. OF COURSE, THIS IS ALL IN FUN; WE ARE FRIENDS HERE. We know, or certainly want to know, one another. And if we look a little further, under the Mardi Gras logo we find the words: Behind every mask there is a face, and behind that a story. Ah, that’s it. There are stories behind the faces behind the masks. Each story to be heard and reverenced. But tonight our stories come together in the Ursuline Story; and that reminds us why we are here — for our common cause, scholarships. No disguising, no concealing. We are all for those young girls who so want to come to Ursuline, but whose family finances are a hindrance. We call them “the Dreamers.” And each one has a story. Your presence here is a gift to “the Dreamers.” For this, we are very grateful. We are also deeply grateful to Chairs Jody, Tiffany, and Gina, and numerous volunteers who have created this splendid event, Mardi Gras Masquerade. And so, dear guests, enjoy tonight all the masks, the faces, and the stories!
In Christ ~ The Ursuline Sisters 4
MARDI GRAS CHAIRS WELCOME TO THE 30TH ANNUAL MARDI GRAS GALA — MASQUERADE! AT LAST, WE HAVE ARRIVED WITH OUR MASKS AND FEATHERS AT URSULINE’S 30TH ANNUAL MARDI GR AS CELEBR ATION. As one New Orleanian stated, “It is in our soul to have Mardi Gras!” Tonight, let’s look into our hearts and souls to give generously for the next generation of Ursuline Girls. At Ursuline, our Masquerade becomes a celebration with dancing, games, and feasting, and your hosts for this year’s annual Mardi Gras are delighted to Masquerade with you. Tonight marks the 30th year of commemorating our rich history of giving back — together we can make this a Mardi Gras worthy of three decades of generosity. As this year’s Chairs, we are honored to be a part of such an outstanding team of volunteers who have made this event possible with their hard work and dedication. We want to thank them for giving their time and talents to ensure we have a memorable evening. Additionally, we are incredibly grateful for our Honorary Chairs — The Haggar Family. Their passion for education and commitment to the Ursuline experience is the driving force making this year’s Mardi Gras possible. Thank you! Now, as we prepare to celebrate — let us also remember “Behind every mask is a face, and behind that a story!” This quote has inspired the evening’s festivities — it is true of each of us in attendance. More importantly, tonight impacts so many amazing young women who have the opportunity for their lives to be shaped by the Ursuline experience. We can measurably show our gratitude by bidding generously and paving the way for more young women to continue their life’s story through Ursuline Academy by way of scholarships. When we drop our masks please raise your paddles high! Let’s set a Mardi Gras Scholarship record for the next class of girls who dream of making an Ursuline education part of their life’s story. Thank you for your continued commitment to Ursuline Academy and your incredible generosity. Laissez les bons temps rouler! — Let the good times roll!
Jody Dodson, Tiffany Luedtke, and Gina Porter 5
HONORARY CHAIRS WELCOME TO MASQUERADE! IT IS AN HONOR TO CELEBR ATE THIS SPECIAL EVENING WITH YOU. We have all been touched by our Ursuline education and experience — a true lifelong gift. For over 60 years we have enjoyed the friendships formed at Ursuline and lived out the mission of Serviam. Our education has been the backbone for all endeavors. The “Ursuline Edge” is education of mind, body, and soul. Students leave Ursuline well prepared to excel in every facet of their lives, and they are leaders both personally and professionally. Furthermore, Serviam sets us apart and propels us into higher service and goals within our communities. We are forever indebted to Ursuline Academy for the foundation it provided. Mardi Gras continues to be an extraordinary night, bringing us together in joy and appreciation for our Ursuline educations. All monies raised by Mardi Gras support Ursuline scholarships, ensuring that deserving applicants have the opportunity to attend Ursuline regardless of financial circumstances. Please be generous in supporting our students — raise your paddles with the assurance that your participation will enable their amazing Ursuline experience! It is our moment to pay it forward…just like those who came before us. Our family wishes to thank all who have worked tirelessly to put on Mardi Gras Masquerade, especially Chairs Jody Dodson, Tiffany Luedtke, and Gina Porter, their committee, and the Ursuline leadership. We are most grateful to those teachers and administrators who through multiple generations have touched and formed our lives. Where would we be without them? Laissez les bons temps rouler!

ENDOWMENTS THE MARTHA TROY RIBELIN ‘49 ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
ESTABLISHED IN GR ATITUDE FOR MARTHA TROY RIBELIN’S LIFELONG DEDICATION TO URSULINE ACADEMY Martha was the first of the three Troy sisters to attend Ursuline. Starting first grade in “Old Ursuline” on Bryan and Haskell Streets, Martha went “all the way through” twelve years of Ursuline education. Her love for Ursuline made her a faithful alumna for the rest of her life. She enjoyed alumnae events, gave generously, and was a catalyst for gathering her Class of ’49 through the years. To think of an Endowed Scholarship in her name, Martha would be somewhat bemused; she never sought honor for herself. But Martha, we now proudly and lovingly honor you.
