1.1POINT/LINE/PLANE RESEARCH EXAMPLES
1.1POINT/LINE/PLANE
My point-line-plane model uses triangular planes as levels which can be climbed on , slept on and sat on. There is a line which splits the plane in two, making the planes slant. And the lines guide your eyes toward a literal point in the middle and therefore all the planes are open and converge. This piece has a central point in the middle, much like Frank Lloyd Wrights work, the organic space is an analogy rather a literal form.

1.2FRAME & INFILL RESEARCH IMAGES
John Wardle, Melbourne Australia Residential construction The frame in this design is made from the timber pieces on the outside which are vertically attached to the faรงade. And the infill is placed beneath the framing. It looks as though the frame and infill has actually been reversed.
1.2FRAME & INFILL
The three different levels of the platform has a hierarchical system with the top being the smallest and bottom having the largest area. Although the bottom has the largest area, it does not frame views out well, so they are forced to move through to the second level. The second level also has a series of infilled panels and hanging panels. And the views are substantially better. The top most section provides seating as well as the best views.

1.3 MASS RESEARCH
1.3 MASS
This project reflects the ideas of mass relating to machinery. After looking at Sant’ Elias’, perspective drawing of La Citta Nuova, I tried to achieve an internal machinery structure. The steps represent the internal structure of a machine such as belt. There is three light sources at the entrance, exit and another which comes from the top of the roof and continues right down to the floor surface. All other areas are dark and are representing the unknown.

2.1 SITE ANALYSIS AND CONCEPTACLE The chosen site is the western most point of the island, where the sculpture ‘steerage’ designed by Jill peck is currently situated. It is a large scale Harcourt granite boat and is a metaphor for journeys, water & knowledge. The word Steerage literally means the part of the ship providing the cheapest accommodation for passengers, therefore the lower deck of the ship with cargo.

Inspired by DSDHA’s pavillion on londons south bank, and my point-line-plane model. There is a transparent roof on top of these planes, concealing something below.

2.2 Concept and sketch Design
My main idea of secrets for this project is to create a secret which can be seen but cannot be touched and contrasting space where this same secret can be touched but cannot be seen. My Idea Is to conceal the Steerage sculpture and make it the secret within the island. I also want to emulate the steerage in my piece. Hence looking at a space which represents moving forward and through time.
2.3 Design Development
To insert a very noticeable feature into Herring island, there had to be an element of mass associated with it. I decided the best material for this particular pavilion is concrete, I then decided on the material which will conceal the Steerage sculpture, and by researching and looking at the precedent of Katsu Detached palace in Frame and infill, I tried to emulate the sheer screens in my work by using textured glass.
Concrete
Copper
In these sketches i am exploring the idea of a boat above the sculpture moving through the channel, and the bottom level being organic shape to ensure a smooth movement through the space and it also contrast the top half of the building.
Timber
I have chosen to enhance the sense of touch by lining the age of the underground space through the use of timber, taking from my research of the bamboo maze.

The underground level of this pavilion is a space where the secret can be touched yet cannot be seen. The space will be dimly lit and lined with timber to enhance the sense of touch in order to make your way around the space. At a certain point the steerage sculpture can be touched from the underground space, however one will not know they are physically interacting with the sculpture. It is also a metaphor for the past as this underground structure is under the steerage sculpture.
4.
The ground level of this structure is constructed by using two planes which connect together at one point to form a definitive edge. This structure reflects the ‘Steerage’ sculpture concealed underneath the textured glass. Here the sculpture itself becomes the secret. This represents a secret which can be seen yet cannot be touched. As you are able to see the sculpture but the glass prevents one from physically interacting with it. The ground level is a metaphor for moving forward and growth leaving behind the times where one was forced to travel in the steerage.

The time capsule room captures the idea of the past. This room will be brightly lit and one is able to put a message or object which represents them inside the capsule. The capsule itself is a copper pole, which is used due to its reflective and smooth surface.
2.5 Final Design Model
2.4 Final Design Drawings While it is ironic that something the shape of a boat as can be in the perspective image is actually stuck to dry land, it is not the journey of the steerage that matters rather it is the journey of a person. From first seeing the structure from ALexandra avenue or the freeway right to walking along the various pathways to finally arriving at the site, and seeing the concealed sculpture. Right to going underground to the touch censored room and leaving a piece of yourself in the time capsule. It is a great Journey of moving through future, present and past.

3.0 REFLECTION
This assignment was definitely a challenge to complete in the short time period we were given. However I think I have achieved a successful design which clearly portrays my intention of having a secret which can be seen but cannot be touched and a space where the secret can be touched but cannot be seen. I achieved a space which signifies a journey through the past, present and the future, different spaces relating to different times. I was also happy with my ideas of using two senses of touch and sight to give character to my design, it complemented my idea of secrets really well. While it was difficult for be to use software during the production of my piece I was able to portray my idea clearly through my model and its detachable panels which allow the bottom level to bee seen, including the spaces which it contains. More training in software will definitely assist me in pushing this design further, and I do think that it was a let down for me. However overall I am happy with what I have achieved and learned throughout this project, and I am satisfied with my final design.
