A short story In 1968 Guido Ugliengo with five borrowed knitting machines and his natural entrepreneurial mind founds Maglificio Ugliengo Guido & C. s.n.c., a small handicraft company that produces knitted underwear for man, woman and child. Few years later Guido with his wife Carla become essential supplier for most of the leading knitted underwear manufacturers in Italy and their company begins to be well known in the national territory. The company still maintains, today, its vocation for the handicraft tradition that is typical of a family business and that characterizes it from the beginning. The desire to expand the market beyond the national territory becomes real in the 90’s with the entry of Nicola, the second son, when a new line of ladies’ knitwear begins to be developed. The concept of this line is to give new glamour to articles that seem to come from the past. They are now sold abroad with success. Since the year 2000 also Giovanna, the youngest of the family, joins the project. Each member of the family has in common a true passion for knitwear and a real love for their work. The small size of their company allows them to deal directly with the choice of raw material, the production, the relationship with customers, the style of their collections and, of course, the quality control of each piece. The company is located in Valdengo, near Biella, in the north-west of Italy, a region that is famous around the world for its textile industries. In fact, the Biellese district is renowned and highly appreciated worldwide for the high quality of its products. Maglificio Ugliengo carries out a variety of processes within its premises and manages the entire production cycle, from the purchasing of the yarns right up to the final product. The extremely flexible structure, supported by complete knitting lines, allows it to fully satisfy the demands of the customers who know to purchase a real “Made in Italy” product.
Golfini Gigiò is the line of fine ladies’ knitwear designed by Giovanna Ugliengo and wholly made in Italy. It is a dressy knitwear with a clean style that preserves the high class of the product.
Golfini Gigiò’s knitwear is made only with natural high quality yarns, is warm like the skin and, if the style allows it, it is seamless.
Hard to copy thanks to their technical characteristics, it has an original and romantic style with the typical taste of things “coming from the past”. Golfini Gigiò in three words is synonym of femininity, spontaneity and naturalness.
Details Golfini Gigiò’s knitwear, if the style allows it, is without side seams and also seamless on the bottom of both body and sleeves. This aspect gives a better fit, more comfort and, of course, is a high quality characteristic and a preciousness’ sign. Golfini Gigio’s knitwear has a rare fineness. This is a great preciousness too, also in countries with very cold climates. Something that optimises comfort. Different Golfini Gigiò’s pullover wear together or in a twin set give a warm sensation on the skin with a sense of lightness at the same time.
Details like ribs, which can be at the bottom or in the middle of the body, are really typical of this special kind of knitwear and resemble to the jumper look.
The finishing is always very feminine, although it remains spontaneous and natural. Finishing are for example the edges enriched with that light doodle, called croquette, laces, or those gentle patterns on the knit.
Row materials used are natural, so there is no possibility to bother the skin. Merino wool gives a pleasant sensation in contact with the skin, thanks to the fineness of Golfini Gigiò’s knitwear and to the high quality of the yarns. The merino wool collection is marked with the Woolmark label, seal of superior guarantee of pure new wool, which has also washing instructions in it.
There is something that not everybody knows: hand washing is not complicated at all! It is even easier than machine washing! Let’s see how… Hand washing is made by itself. You just need to put into cold water the piece you have to wash with a small quantity of mild hand-washing liquid. It seems unbelievable but that’s it! To rinse, you only need to change the water few times, till there is no more soap. At the very end, without wringing, lay flat your woollen pullover. The piece will reward you will with lasting good looking. Cotton knitwear is machine washable.
Our collections always have colour themes. This means that each style is made in different colours.
Colour-matching are very easy in that way, but if you like, there is also the possibility to be original. Our striped knitwear is an example.
Colours and styles are young and glamour. Never dull. They are perfect with casual apparel like jeans, but also with more elegant things. For example our crop cardigan is really lovely with a nightdress.
