Kampung, a word originally pointed at fishermans village, is a dense residential area that expanded after the Second World War, when migrants begand to flood in from all around. This area, usually viewed as the slum district of Jakarta, is an iconic core of Indonesian culture, but due to its poverished nature, hold much social issues. Sanitation is insufficient, and sewage systems overflow in the rainy seasons. On the other hand, Kampung holds a very unique communal system called RT, a group of 100-700 residents, creating a closely knit community in an area that seems chaotic and random at first glance. In a time where regional inequality is rapidly increasing, we will revitilize and rehabilitate the area by creating a communal glass tower and pavements.

In this studio, we are asked to design some institution for kids. As long as the place is for kids, we were allowed to design anything. As I had an experience of visting an after-school when I was an elementary school student, and I couldn't like the place very much, I thought why I did not like there. The reason I came up was the architecture of the after-school. If the architecture was different, the attitude of mine could be also different.

In Japan, population ageing is a very serious problem. However there is no critical solution for that and many aged people have lost the place that they feel communicated. As the number of children dicreases and the number of the aged increases, we should no longer consider a public facilities for only one group of people.

are many schools around the site. I propose a new type of after-school.
Building Process This architecture is constructed in three steps. As I wanted to release the ground level because it is already used as a park, I came up with this giant slope architecture. To have these three steps, it is structually possible, and also could have varieties of spaces. Phase. 1 less than 5°
Draw an arch on the site which have very gentle angle so that even the aged people can easily go up and down. The highest degree of the slope is 5°. This would be a standard line.
Phase. 2
To pick the line up and down, make one more line. This line is crossing the standard line at some points.
Phase. 3
Between these two lines, 8 spaces can be found. These spaces have diffenet activities. Some spaecs are separeted and some are overlapped each other.

Plan & Section This linier architecture has many different functions. Functions are placed by undulations. This building itself is a park, so anybody could walk through as a pedestrian bridge. This architecture is an after-school for kids, day-care for elderlies, a public park and street for everyone.

In the drawing below, two upward-arching rays stand next to each other. Two arches lie on top of one another, a linier space is created. This inner space could be used for two separated functions or one connected function. As the space is long and narrow, the functions could be laid gradationally.

This project is my graduation project for bachelor course. In this project, we are not given any theme, therefore we have to find it by ourselves. As the masterpiece of my bachelor course, I decided Isezaki as the site. The place is in Yokohama where I grew up and live. The site has interesting atmosphere that small stalls gather and sex industries have so much power. However even such site is under the project of mega-development. If the scrap and build is necessary, I instead propose the new way of development.
015
Concept Normally if there are two different sites, two buildings on them are naturally separeted. However in this project, even though the owner of the lands are different, if the site is next to each other, they have to share the wall that stand just the edge of the site. With this system, having the separeted small site, one can have the biggest site efficency from the site.

The theme of competition this year was “Symbol of a town. We are asked to design a new symbol. Many modern cities especially in Asia are losing their symbols, because the urban development equalize the landscape of the city. Under the situation, we found the place that still has the great symbol in Favela, Brazil. However on the other hand, the enviroment there is getting worse. I aimed to improve the site with the new symbol that they already had. The title of the work is called "Escola de la Escadas", meaning "School of Steps" in Portuguese that will become the new education core within the Favelas.

This is an early work of mine. We are asked to design a wooden structured building in a very typical residential district in Japan. This studio was supervised by Shigeru Ban, and he didn't ask anything except the site and the structure. Instead of making one small building in one small site, I decided to infect the whole street. There used be a shopping street at any residential districts, but since the high economic growth in Japan, those local shopping streets are died out by the political urban zoning and nowadays they barely exist in Tokyo. The project is to raise the local community through proposing 6 new local rules of street use.

This is a workshop to propose a bridge in Minamisanriku where the earthquake and Tsunami attacked in 3.11. We were asked to design a bridge on the actual site that are chosen by juries. The river set as the site is deviding two designed areas such as shopping district and public park district. There is a plan to make a pedestrian street through two district and the bridge is set in the middle of them. To be a symbol of the town, I propose to span a roof instead of so-called bridge.
030
Bridge is originally for joining two areas that

are divided by a river or a valley. Bridge was considered that it doesn’t have any other functions. However if bridge was used as a room with a purpose, what would it be like. As bridge connects two areas, it has a potential to be a core for a city. I didn’t choose to span a bridge, instead I chose to span a roof that becomes a symbol of Minamisanriku. Under the roof, Minamisanriku stays together as one. Concept
1. Span an arch bridge that becomes the basic structure over a river
2. Extrude the pedestrian street from both sides to cover the arch
3. Two sides jostling against each other get turned upward

In Japan, we have a huge public transportation network that brings decreasing number of new car sales. Although the situation is showing that we ought to grow out of motorization, most Japanese house makers still provide houses with their own car parking lots. In this competition, I was asked to design 5 detached housings in the middle of new developed residential area. I decided to make these 5 detached housings like a building block, so that each unit could be removed to the parking lot of each ordinary houses in the area.

Afterword Gratitude for reading my portfolio. Through the works in this, not only the skill I studied, but also I tried to phrase my own utopia as Karl Manheim said “Thinking of Utopia avail than thinking of Ideology. I believe that a miscellany has to be the accumulation of what I thought and experienced going beyond the accumulation of skills. If these works could depict my background itself, I am very grateful. Again thank you for reading through this page.
