ITEC Courses ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) at Cardiff ITEC Overview The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) is a qualification that covers the main range of computer skills required in the modern workplace. It provides learners with the opportunity to gain a benchmark qualification in computing to that both develops their IT skills and enhances their career prospects. No prior knowledge of IT or computer skills is needed to study ECDL. The qualification comprises of 7 modules, each of which are tested in order to complete the full ECDL qualification. The 7 modules are:
Basic concepts of IT Using the computer and managing files Word processing Spreadsheets Database Presentation Information and Communication
Learning delivery methods
Learndirect led Learners are signed up for The Complete Desktop Tutor learndirect course. This is a reputable course run by a company called ‘electric paper’ who have also designed the ECDL recommended automated test system that ITEC use. Learners can study at any time by logging in to their personalised learndirect profile, and gain online tutor support throughout. The recommended course duration is 76 hours, although this can increase or decrease depending on the requirements of the learner. Learners are supported by an online tutor who will answer e-mail enquiries.

ITEC Courses
Whilst this flexibility is advantageous, certain individuals/companies may wish to schedule specific times when this learning takes place. This ensures that learning takes place on a regular basis.
No prior knowledge of IT or computer skills is needed to study ECDL. Therefore, this course is suited to people with a range of levels of IT experience. Tutor led training Learners receive tuition from a qualified tutor over 7 working days – one day per module. (A suggested method of delivery is one day per week over a 7-week period.) This method is suitable for people already with some familiarity with IT and Microsoft Office. Testing (for all Methods of Delivery) Testing is carried out on an automated test system that requires no tutor marking and provides the learner and tutor with instant results. Testing can be carried out at ITEC for up to 10 learners, or, where appropriate, testing can be taken to the workplace using ITEC laptops for up to 8 learners.

ITEC Courses NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (3172) The qualification structure and standards The Level 2 qualification contains 4 core units. At Level 2 all candidates who are employed in the social care sector must be assessed in the 4 core units plus 2 optional units. Candidates employed in the health care sector may undertake the 4 core units and 2 optional units or 2 core units and 2 optional units plus 2 other units from the core or optional units or 3 core units and 3 optional units. Qualification structure The standards that apply to the IT User NVQs at levels 1, 2 and 3 are contained in Areas of Competence (AoC). Each AoC covers a particular activity/skill, for example, the skill of Word processing software or the activity of using IT to exchange information. The units within the qualification have been assigned unit values and to achieve a full OCR IT User NVQ, candidates must achieve a minimum total of UVs.
