Research Scholarships Research degree scholarships enable students to focus on their research without needing to work in paid employment to pay for their tuition fees or to support their living expenses while they are undertaking their research degree.
Scholarships to undertake a research degree in Australia are available from the Federal Australian Government and from the University of South Australia.
Australian Government scholarships – The Australia Awards Australia Awards are a whole-ofAustralian government initiative which brings together scholarships and fellowships administered by the Federal Australian Government Departments of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Education and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). There are a range of generous scholarships available to international students from specific countries and the eligibility criteria, scholarship conditions and funding levels vary – it is strongly advised to read the information available on the Australia Awards website at www.australiaawards.gov.au/ content/awards to check when the application rounds are open to determine eligibility. It is important to note that with some specific scholarships, e.g. the *Endeavour Postgraduate Awards, applicants need to apply to the University of South Australia first and have received a valid and current offer of admission before applying for the scholarship. *While the Endeavour Awards provide generous financial support towards tuition fees, living expenses, travel costs and health insurance the tuition allowance is strictly limited. In some cases this annual allowance is insufficient for full payment of the annual tuition fee for the program of choice and the student is expected to pay this difference. For this reason, the University of South Australia will automatically waive the funding gap between the scholarship tuition fee allowance, which is A$25,000 per year in 2014, and the actual tuition fee of the Master or research program offered by the Division.
