ITINERÀNNIA, NETWORK OF TRAILS “Itinerànnia” is a network of trails, with over 2500 kilometres between the neighbouring regions of “Ripollès”, “Garrotxa” and “Alt Empordà”. A network of hiking trails is like a road map, but with footpaths, allowing the hiker to get from any one point to another. It retrieves the old historic roads between the villages to reach many small places.

01 OLOT

Garrotxa

The network offers many different hikes depending on the time or difficulty and you interest over nature, architecture or culture. Each route that we propose is just a little taste of an extensive network of trails that you can walk to discover the Ripollès, Garrotxa and Alt Empordà counties.

THE SIGNS all the trails of the network are marked regularly over the paths with horizontal painted yellow signs.

PATH’S MARKS (3X10cm)

TURN LEFT / RIGHT

WRONG PATH

The marks are placed approximately every 300 metres painted on tree trunks, stones or using and other mediums already deployed in the area. The vertical signs is located at crossroads. The basic network signalling (banners with red tip) indicate the 4 nearest population in each direction and time needed. The banners of the itineraries of the municipalities, as the one you have in your hands, have a green tip shows the name and direction of the route. Each signpost has a small plaque hat shows the name of the place where it is located, the altitude, the UTM.

You will find information boards with a map of the county’s trails in every village or city integrating the network.

A WALK OVER THE BATET DE LA SERRA BASALT PLATEAU Easy

2h.

THE OLD TRAILS OF BATET

Begin the walk at Olot bus station, leaving by the back entrance along Carrer Paraires where we found the signpost G161 Olot estació d’autobusos. Continue along Carrer Paraires as Santa Magdalena’s bridge. Turn right and cross the river, and then take the Sant Cristòfol street. Then cross the vial Sant Jordi and continue just found the signpost G162 Benavent. Continue direction Begudà on the street Volcà Santa Margarida, turn left on street Volcà Croscat just found on right the street pare Nolasc del Molar.

A WALK OVER THE BATET DE LA SERRA BASALT PLATEAU

Almost immediately follow the yellow marks you will soon come to another signpost G183 Sota Font de la Salut. Here, turn right along a path when you reach the gully and then some large steps take you very quickly to a spring, La Font de la Salut. Begin to zigzag up the path from the right-hand side of the spring as far as a narrow road; here, turn left and continue as far as Cal Pacient, from where the road becomes a dirt track. The path contours around the slope, climbing gently to a junction of paths (with a field on your right) where you should keep left. The path curves around to the right and at the end of the climb turn left following the wooden sign and the yellow paint marks. Continue straight on and you reach an open area with excellent views of the Pyrenees and down to Olot. Once you have crossed the field, you then cross over a cattle grid. From here on and for some distance, the path undulates across the mountainside but after a somewhat longer uphill stretch you come to the ruins of Cal Vicari. Here, continue straight on for a little while through an attractive oakwood to come out at the clearing of Font Faja.

G183 - Sota Font de la Salut

Continue straight on into the woods to where the path begins to zigzag quickly uphill. Turn right alongside an electric fence and continue climbing as far a house, La Masó. Pass to the left of the house and continue uphill between dry-stone walls that separate neighbouring farms.

G184 - Can Sila

You come out onto a road at signpost G184 Can Sila; turn downhill to the right along the road towards Olot, with magnificent views of the Pyrenees ahead.

ROUTE SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Where the road veers left, follow at right. At first, the track heads right, but almost immediately turns left; walk past the entrance to a house and continue straight on between stone walls.

You come out to a track at signpost G23 and should follow the indication ‘Olot 1h 15 min’ (the walk in fact takes a little less time as it does not reach the centre of the city). Immediately, you join a minor road that heads left. Once at a house, leave the road and continue straight on along a path. Cross a small road, continue downhill and cross another minor road. Continue downhill with houses on your left until the trail narrows into a footpath. The next part of the walk follows the best conserved – both from a point of view of the paving and the walls – stretch of the trail. Eventually, you come to an electricity transformer, where you should turn left and begin the last part of the downhill into Olot (now in full view below). Pass by a number of houses on your left and right, you then come to a concrete track and as the downhill ends you enter Olot along Carrer Sant Cristòfol. Finally, you come to the signpost G162 where you should continue straight on downhill, over the Santa Magdalena bridge and back to the bus station.
