ITINERÀNNIA, NETWORK OF TRAILS
ENG
6
“Itinerànnia” is a network of trails, with over 2,500 kilometres between the neighbouring regions of “Ripollès”, “Garrotxa” and “Alt Empordà”. A network of hiking trails is like a road map, but with footpaths, allowing the hiker to get from any one point to another. It retrieves the old historic roads between the villages to reach many small places. The network offers many different hikes depending on the time or difficulty and your interests over nature, architecture or culture. Each route that we propose is just a little taste of an extensive network of trails that you can walk to discover the Ripollès, Garrotxa and Alt Emprdà counties.
RIPOLLÈS
THE SIGNS All the trails of the network are marked regularly over the paths with horizontal painted yellow signs.
PATH'S MARKS (3 x 10 cm)
TURN LEFT/RIGHT
WRONG PATH
The marks are placed approximately every 300 metres painted on tree's bark, stones or using and other medium already deployed in the area. In the cross roads you will find signposts indicating the nearest four villages in each direction with time information. (a maximum of 6 hours) If the same village or town appears more than once on different signs of the same signpost, you will need to read the description below the town. If there is no description below the place name then you are looking at the shortest route to the town or village. If the indication says “Per...” (I.e via) it means that this is a longer alternative route to get to the same place. Each signpost has a small plaque that shows the name of the place where it is located, the altitude and the UTM coordinates. You will find information boards with a map of the county's trails in every village or city integrating the network.
+INFO: www.itinerannia.net www.elripolles.com In the Ripollès county you will find 18 touch screens located in different towns containing tourist information. Aquesta actuació està subvencionada pel Servei d’Ocupació de Catalunya en el marc del Projecte “Treball a les 4 Comarques” i cofinançada pel Fons Social Europeu.

FROM CAMPDEVÀNOL TO RIPOLL AND BACK THROUGH ANCIENT ROADS
The route begins at Clavé square, just opposite the town hall. Walk along Girona street, at the end of it, there is a beautiful Gothic cross. From here you can see the church of “Sant Cristòfol” dating back to the late nineteenth century. Continue parallel to the railway until you find a level crossing, R54 sign Pujada de Vista Alegre. Cross the railway and keep walking next to it, now on the other side and following the Creu street until its end, R45 sign Barri de la Creu. At this point you find the old livestock road once used to take the cattle up to the high Pyrenees. The old road that led to La Pobla de Lillet, in the Berguedà county shared part of its way with the livestock road. Walk on the remains of this historical road while crossing the river Merdàs by a concrete driveway. Climb along the wide main trail until the first bend where you take a narrow path that gains altitude quickly to meet again the main trail near the “Estiulella” farm. Stay on the trail and soon you will go deeper into a forest. Leave the main trail and take a little path until you get to a stream. Climb up until you reach a hill with a crossroads. Walk down a path through a forest along the Freser valley leading you to the “Vilar” house. A few meters up, the path will take you to a trail, R15 El Vilar. While going downhill the trail will take you to the recreation area of Ordina, after following a stream for a while and passing under the railway. There you find the springs of “Tòtil” and “La Roca”. Keep walking on a paved road until you find a bridge, R16 sign Pont de la Farga. Cross the bridge and walk past the Palau forge, nowadays a museum. Follow the “Pirineus”, “De les Vinyes” and “Sant Pere” streets until you arrive at the main square of Ripoll, with the Santa Maria monastery in front of you, with its magnificent bell tower and unique Romanesque portal.

JUST TO PERSUADE YOU: The main interest of this route is the fact that runs along the ancient roads that in the old days linked Campdevànol and Ripoll on both sides of the river Freser. It is surprising the abundance of well preserved forests and agricultural plains in this populated environment.
Near “Can Vilalta” the track follows an open channel that will accompany you until almost Campedvànol. Once past the funeral home and crossed the Maiols stream you must follow a path on your left that will lead you once again near the channel. Stay on this path. After the “Casanova de Baix” industrial state you arrive at N-152 road, R44 sign Casanova de Baix. You must carefully cross the main road and follow it to the entrance of town. Cross the bridge and following Gala street you will get to the Clavé square, the starting and finishing point of this circular route.
