Citizenship Classes

Tuesdays, August 29-November 14, 3-4:45 pm

Prepare for your citizenship test in this small online group class. Content includes speaking, reading and writing English, along with U.S. history and civics. Students will receive a textbook to keep. You must attend all classes in the 12 week session.

Once registered you will need to pick up your textbook tote bag at the HIAS Skokie office, located at: Goldie Bachmann Luftig Building, Seigle Campus, 5150 W. Golf Rd., 1st Floor, Skokie IL 60077.

Village Of Wheeling Social Workers At The Library

KISS THE GROUND (2020)

Thursday, June 22, 2-3:30 pm

Narrated by Woody Harrelson, this documentary sheds light on a new, old approach to farming called regenerative agriculture, a practice with the extraordinary ability to balance our climate and feed the world. This film is not rated, but is recommended for ages 10+ due to one instance of mild mature language, a brief depiction of alcohol consumption and some violence in archival footage of WWII. R

ESL registration is by ticket only on the first day of class and is first come, first served. Tickets are available 15 minutes before the first class of each level.

• Limit: 24 tickets per class.

• Students must attend all classes in the 10-week quarter.

• No registration after first day of class for each level. Waitlisted students will be notified before July 28 if there are additional openings.

Esl Volunteer Training

Current or new ESL volunteers can attend one of our training sessions each quarter. Sessions will include updates to ESL and library services, training related to ESL tutoring and instruction and time to network with other volunteers. Build your vocabulary and fluency with advanced English grammar and practice conversations with classmates. Learn how to write a resume in English, interpret and summarize articles, make small talk, and more. Advanced students may meet with a tutor once a week. TR
