The Works of Giles Barwick
It's All 2 Much Art Gallery is an independent art organisation based in Stokes Croft, an area that is gathering fame as Bristol’s cultural quarter. The gallery opened for business on 10th December 2011 at 124 Cheltenham Road after the ground floor premises underwent a total refurbishment.
We promote original work by local artists, including painting, sculpture and photography, in our own exhibition space, in other selected spaces accessible to the public and on-line through our website. Our primary aim is to show quality work that is interestingly different regardless of style or genre. Using this remit to complement other galleries in the area, you can generally find something unusual at It’s All 2 Much compared to what you might find at other galleries in Bristol.
Our front gallery is dedicated to group, joint and solo shows and we generally aim to hold between 8 and 10 of these exhibitions per year. The back gallery is less formal and a variety of works ranging from pieces from previous shows to works by new artists are on display here. While many of the original works can be purchased, we will also endeavour to make limited edition prints and artists proofs available for those people who prefer a more modest investment. A selection of prints can be found in our print racks in the front and back galleries but you can also ask the staff about the availability of any that are not on display.

GILES BARWICK When Giles first arrived in Bristol he studied Graphic Design, and following a short course at St Ives School of Art he applied to the University of West of England (UWE) to study Fine Art. It was here he was awarded the “Innes Wilken Art in Architecture" prize. Since gaining his BA, Giles has continued to develop his innovative techniques and shrewd use of colours within his work.
Samples of works by Giles are illustrated on the following pages. Please be aware that colour reproduction is not 100% accurate.

Epiphany (mixed media on canvas, w 90cms x h 90cms)
Painting and drawing have been integral to Giles' life. Heavily influenced by the early 80s, Giles has long had an interest in comics and graphic novels and has been painting and doodling his entire life. As an artist, he currently produces 2D abstract work.
Misty II (mixed media on canvas, w 90cms x h 90cms)
His art is a means of self-expression and therapy, yet the resulting angst-ridden canvases are bright and lively in nature. The techniques are varied and now adopt an illustrative style in favour of the linear markings of his earlier works. The rough brush strokes, dribbles and smears are achieved with the use of acrylics, pens and spray cans.
Blushing Pilgrim (mixed media on canvas, w 90cms x h 90cms)
His inspirations have been various, ranging from close friends and local artists to people such as Conor Harrington, Hush and, more recently, Alberto Giacometti.
Penny For Her Thoughts (mixed media on canvas, w 90cms x h 90cms)
Giles has been exhibiting his work in the group shows at It's All 2 Much Art Gallery since early 2012, and we are always happy to have at least one of his latest pieces on permanent display. More recently we were pleased to host his first solo show ‘Countenance’ in our front gallery.
