DJ Claudio Tellis is one of the biggest names in Goa’s nightlife scene. Currently, based in the vibrant town of Porvorim, he is synonymous with the pulsating beats that make Goan nights come alive. With over 28 years of expertise in the art of DJing, he stands tall as one of the cornerstones of Goa's dynamic music culture.
His Early Years
In the tumultuous year of 1990, amidst the Gulf War, a young Claudio Tellis moved from Kuwait to Goa. With just a tape deck and an insatiable love for music, Claudio’s experiments with different genres of music led him to create mixtapes, capturing the essence of music before it even hit the market. The turning point in Claudio’s journey came in 1994 when he performed for a small gathering at a friend's 21st birthday party. The overwhelming response to his performance propelled him into a series of gigs, marking the beginning of his extraordinary career.
Rising Through the Ranks
Although currently based in North Goa, Claudio spent most of his childhood and teenage years in South Goa, and was one of the very few DJs from the region back then. Balancing his passion for DJing with his studies, Claudio secured a residency at Ziggy's, a renowned shack in Colva, in 1997. This opportunity opened doors to new music genres and experiences. His breakthrough arrived in 1999 when he joined Avloc, where he gained access to professional DJ equipment. Through sheer determination and self-learning, he mastered the art of mixing, captivating larger crowds and shattering the notion that Goa's DJ talent was confined to the north. The pinnacle of his career was reached when he became a part of the prestigious Pioneer DJs, a group that were in the list of the 12 most outstanding DJs in Goa at that time. This achievement solidified his status as a music icon, not only in Goa but also within the broader DJing community.
Beyond DJing
Beyond his DJing prowess, Claudio Tellis dons multiple hats. He serves as a sound consultant for restaurants and homes, creating immersive audio experiences. Additionally, he is an amateur 3D animator, heading his own design company, “VIVIFYGOA.” He has utilised his talent to coordinate events for major event companies in India.
Claudio has also served as Vice President of the Goa Entertainment Association from 2020-2022. He was elected to the position again in 2022 for another 2 year term.
Accolades And Achievements
Claudio’s exceptional DJing skills first received recognition when he was crowned ‘DJ of the Millennium’ in the year 2000, a title that thrust him into the limelight. In 2002, he was recognised among the top five DJs in Goa. In 2015, he won the MyFavAwards for Best Retro/Rock DJ for 2014-2015.
Future Endeavours
Despite his remarkable success, Claudio remains grounded, embracing life's opportunities as they come. His future plans are fluid, reflecting his philosophy to go with the flow and savour every moment.
