Hailing from Betalbatim, a picturesque village inSouth Goa, is the very talented Inês Barros, awestern classical and opera singer. Music has been apart of her life for as long as she can remember. Shebegan taking music seriously since the age of 7, whilestudying under the Associated Board of the RoyalSchool of Music, London. She feels fortunate to havehad small wins and opportunities all along since then- training with the best piano and vocal teachers, singing in choirs, small productions, performing atconcerts in Bangalore and Goa, as well as performingin a commercial or two. Ines also had the incredibleopportunity of training under Alan Cemore, abaritone, and one of the most accomplished operasingers in the world. One of her memorableperformances is the Aria she performed with theIndian Naval Orchestra in March 2022. Inês feelsthat she still has a very long way to go in life. Her taste in music has largely been influenced by herparents. Her father assembled a sound system athome including an amplified gramophone. His largecollection of ABBA, The Carpenters, Pink Floyd.Mozart, Beethoven, Latin Bossas, and Britishmarches is what Inês grew up listening to. That tiny, single-octave keyboard you getthat makes animal sounds and has the funkiestbeats? That was her first instrument and toy. All ofthese experiences gave way to newer ones.

that makes animal sounds and has the funkiestbeats? That was her first instrument and toy. All ofthese experiences gave way to newer ones. While continuously pursuing her practical andtheoretical studies in music on the side, shegraduated from the Srishti Institute of Art, Design, and Technology, majoring in Sound Design andminoring in Creative Writing. Among other things, her education taught her to apply creative conceptsto her music. She is blessed to have parents whohad an open mind and invested in her talentsthroughout her formative years. Inês says, "It beganand it continues, all thanks to them."Inês spent a very brief period pursuing music full-time after graduation. As an independent musicianjust starting, she didn't know where her next gig wasgoing to come from. That made it hard for her to getby.

One also feels the pressure of putting out music that the market demands. which could be different from what one specializes in. However, that is highly subjective. Inês would rather have music as the smaller part of her professional life, performing only the genre she is passionate about; than do it fulltime with demands of the trade she may not be able to comply with. She looks up to the people in her everyday life for various reasons - regardless of their accomplishments. Her life advice to her past self is "Just go with it!". Inês would love to meet artists and writers ranging from the 1700s to the 1980s. There were a few golden years of music, literature, and the arts - she believes that what they birthed is timeless and keeps the artistic world thriving to date. Inês aspires to live a full life, rich with experiences of every kind and hopes that music will always be a part of it.
