GO ANYWHERE.
OUR TOWN IS INDIANA. OUR STATE IS PENNSYLVANIA. OUR SPAN IS THE ENTIRE WORLD.
At IUP, you’ll find yourself at the heart of a community as unique as you are. Where students and professors come from a few miles down the road, from more than 50 different countries around the world, and from everywhere in between. Here, learning isn’t always by the book or bound by four walls. Your research can take you to the depths of the ocean floor or to the heights of Wall Street. Your interests might have you studying in India or discovering new cultures right here on campus. Come to IUP, and let your perspective grow. Then leave with the confidence and insights to go anywhere your curiosity takes you.
YOUR SCIENCE IS SHOWING. Science is exciting. It’s useful. It’s global.
Here, you can study the stars in the planetarium, water flow in the flume lab, or the history of a rock with the scanning electron microscope. (Scientists from other universities come to IUP to use ours.)
You aren’t confined to four walls. If you’re a biologist, you might spend time in nearby state parks tracking wildlife or travel with your professor on research trips to places like South Africa or Honduras.
IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE? If you’ve set your sights on becoming a physician, you’ll likely enroll in our pre-med program. Later, you can apply to med school on your own, or you can take advantage of three cooperative agreements—with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Jefferson Medical College, or Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Preveterinary majors have similar access.
IUP alumni—some of whom are at the top of their professions—have financially supported an awesome new facility. The Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics will move into its new home in 2023.
YOU MEAN BUSINESS.
Your goal might be to work on Wall Street.
You might want to use accounting to track crime. Or, maybe you want to study entrepreneurship to open your own business. Master the art and science of managing human resources, or become an expert in moving products, ingredients, and equipment around the world by studying supply chain management. You’ll experience a real financial trading room, and you’ll have plenty of networking opportunities, too, like the annual Business Day. Everyone in the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology participates, including alumni, who return to campus to share their knowledge.
GET CONNECTED.
If you qualify for the Business Honors Program, you can take advantage of academic and networking trips as close as New York and as far away as India.
BE A DIFFERENT KIND OF MANAGER. If you love sports or travel and leisure but still want to apply best business practices, consider majoring in sport administration, fashion merchandising, or hospitality management.
THE ARTS ARE IN YOUR HEART. Dance, sing, act, design.
If you opt for theatre, music, dance, or art as a major, you might design and build furniture in the Wood Center, paint, make jewelry, perform on stage, or design and build the sets for Theater-by-the-Grove. If you are a musician, you might travel to Europe to perform with an ensemble or provide music lessons through the Community Music School. Theatre majors get to do real improv by acting as patients in IUP’s nursing simulation labs. Talk about hands-on training for future actors and nurses! Even if you aren’t majoring in an artsrelated field, you still can be an artist.
ENHANCE YOUR ARTISTIC REPERTOIRE. Add a communications media minor to your résumé, and pair up your artistic talent with knowledge of video production. Or, add a certificate program to your mix, and get credentials in audio production or popular music.
YOUR FUTURE IS IN HEALTH AND HUMAN CARE. At IUP, you’ll find many ways to improve the human condition.
Majors specific to health care, like nursing and respiratory care, are one way, but there are more. If you want to take care of larger communities, consider one of four tracks in the Public Health program. Or, if you want to work with people to improve their mental or physical health, consider psychology, dietetics, or exercise science. What’s important is you’ll find all the right blends of sciences and arts, mixed with the ability to double major or choose minor courses of study that will broaden your perspective. You can do it your way.
GET THERE FROM HERE.
Physician assistant, pharmacist, audiologist, optometrist, dentist, physical therapist, chiropractor—yep, you can do that at IUP, too. We have agreements with Salus University, Chatham University, Temple University, and others to admit IUP’s qualifying students. Ask us for details.
YOU CAN TEACH AND COMMUNICATE. Communicators inform and influence. Teachers, broadcasters, social media strategists, and journalists— you name it. Our graduates are living it. If you opt for teaching, you’ll have professors to guide you to your teaching certification. If you choose a communications program— like Communications Media or Journalism and Public Relations— prepare to get busy. You’ll want to sign on with IUP-TV, get involved with the Center for Media Production and Research, or take a position with the Penn, IUP’s student newspaper.
LEARN IN THE CLINIC.
BE AMONG PRIZEWINNERS.
Several alumni have earned journalism’s top honor—the Pulitzer Prize—recognizing their news judgment and courage to inform the public of the truth. Others have Emmy Awards.
IUP’s speech-language pathology majors gain extra experience in the Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic, which provides testing services to the public, including schoolage children.
PEOPLE ARE YOUR PASSION. Don’t let anyone tell you that social sciences and humanities fields—sometimes also known as liberal arts—are too soft for the job market. It’s not true. Employers everywhere are seeking workers who know how to write, interact with people of all backgrounds, and think on their feet.
Anything you study in the social sciences and humanities disciplines will give you a well-rounded perspective. English and foreign languages focus on linguistics and culture. Anthropology, sociology, history, and religious studies provide perspective about people and their way of life.
DIG IN THE DIRT.
Anthropology majors can dig and discover with IUP Archaeological Services, which is contacted when construction uncovers artifacts and signs of ancient inhabitants. And, over the years, history majors have traveled to Cyprus to uncover artifacts through the Pyla-Koutsopetria Archaeological Project.
Political science and economics look at the policies and factors that change the human condition, while philosophy considers the limits of human knowledge. Geography and regional planning consider the space and environmental and economic factors that affect population.
Our alumni take their skills around the world, leading, coaching, discovering, and sharing their vision. We can’t wait to see where your future takes you.

B ECO M E A N E X P LO R E R. We get it. Choosing a major can be daunting. So, for those who are still deciding, we created the Exploratory Studies program. From seven subject-based options, choose one that speaks to you, and dive in. There’ll be a mentor by your side to guide you, even if your interests change.
HELP IS THERE FOR YOU.
At IUP, you never have to go it alone. Your first year, you’ll be assigned a guide, a member of the faculty or staff who can connect you to resources and be your sounding board. All students have access to the Hawks Q&A Center, a place that can point you in the right direction for help of any kind, academic or personal. The Kathleen Jones White Writing Center staff will help you make that paper shine, and the Academic Success Center can set you up with tutoring on any subject.

Designed for high-achieving students who want to get the most out of their education, our Cook Honors College invites you to live and learn together in Whitmyre Hall—writing, reading, and exchanging ideas rather than taking tests and quizzes.

Explore. Create. Discover. Get ideas. Go beyond. Drive there. Fly there. Speak the language. Take in the culture. Have an epiphany. Have a blast. Have all-new stories to tell. Then, wonder how you ever lived without that insight, that meal, that moment that changed everything.
HUSTLE. CHILL. EXPLORE. REPEAT.
Love the grove.
When your campus is also one of the country’s most beautiful college arboretums, you want to take full advantage. Our beloved Oak Grove is a prime spot to study, meet up, or catch a glimpse of the legendary red-tailed hawk. Have fun on Philadelphia Street.
Historic, quaint, and just off campus, this is where you’ll find eclectic boutiques, the Philadelphia Street Playhouse, coffee shops, events, and everything delicious, from Thai to Italian, hoagies to ice cream. Take off-campus adventures.
If you didn’t know, western Pennsylvania is kind of stunning and the perfect place for all things outdoors. Tube, sled, fish, hike, camp, or disc golf at Co-op Park, hit the Hoodlebug Trail, or paddle your cares away at Yellow Creek. Belong and be involved.
IUP is a community, and everyone belongs. We know there’s more to life than just going to class. We’re big fans of getting involved, because that’s how you’ll build your own network of friends for life. Choose from more than 200 clubs and organizations, take in a free movie or live performance, go Greek, volunteer, snuggle a dog before the big test, or tap your inner artist at Chalk on the Walk. You won’t be able to do it all, but you can sure try. Fuel your spirit.
On the varsity level, IUP athletes compete in the NCAA’s Division II. Our men’s teams are baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, swimming, and indoor and outdoor track and field. Our women’s teams are basketball, cross country, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and field, and volleyball. If those aren’t for you, you can still be involved— cheerleading, dance squads, and marching and pep bands might be for you. We also have an array of club teams and intramurals, from rugby to basketball, ice hockey to esports. That’s right. Sports from a comfy chair.
LIVE ON CAMPUS AND LEARN. When you live on campus,
you have all the convenience and the opportunity to build instant friendships. You can choose a livinglearning community that tracks closely to your major course of study—health and wellness, business, and science, to name a few. Ask about our Living-Learning Certificate programs that enable you to add punch to your résumé.
