THE USER EXPERIENCE Users are welcomed to “The New Generator Building” on the 00 Ground Floor Level. Upon entering, they find themselves in a full-height atrium that reveals Upper Floors and emphasises the character and scale of the historic building I have chosen to work with. A change in levels, naturally leads them to the main GF area, where a Registry desk is available - this is where users can be assisted with enquirers, request information, check-in for an event or training they might be visiting. The main aspect of the Ground Floor is to encourage a strong sense of being a part of the community that my design aims to establish. This is where a Cafe a will operate during daytime not only for users who are using the spaces to work, but also open to the locals to create a “buzz” about the space. Weekly events can take place and a small stage can be utilised for entertainment purposes for example performances or talks. In the evening time the cafe will continue to operate as a bar and create a unique experience for the local community - creative space that also provides leisure and entertainment. The Ground Floor is made accessible for wheelchair users from the alternative means of escape on the far end section of the floor plan. This becomes a second Reception area that is in close proximity to all amenities, such as the Gents, Ladies, Accessible Toilets & Lifts. This becomes a Meet & Greet space with a Feature Display stand that promotes the activities within the project and also serve as a small exhibition of work that has been producing. This includes a Digital Screen which can be adapted to project a variety of marketing based on the event, type of day and others.

THE USER EXPERIENCE The First Floor accommodated the Digital Fabrication Studios. New structural beams, support an alteration that reduced the floor plate size by opening up voids above the Cafe Seating on the GF area. This provides a double-height space which transforms what was an evenly sectioned off and distrurbed ceiling heights into a open space, full of natural light. The new proposed staircases leads the user to the main circulation space on the First Floor which overlooks the Cafe. This creates a level of inter-connectivity and transparency between the most social aspect - the communal cafe and the most functional aspect that inspires innovative ideas - the Fabrication Studios. These provide the users to access to specialty equipment such as Laser Cutters, CNC & Milling Machines, 3D Printers & Scanners, Woodworking tools and a Materials Shop. The mode of operation and access to these facilities is controlled. Each space can be accessed via an access key. However the use of the equipment is made available to anyone who is an official member, has need for one-time hire or even a child, attending a making workshop led by a specialists.

An app can track occupancy levels so overcrowding is avoided and users have access to this information so they are constantly aware what the current availability and demand is. All internal door openings are purposely made wider to ease access and maneuvering large format materials or elements. Materials Shop has two-point access with immediate connection to Lifts for ease of stock deliveries.

THE USER EXPERIENCE The Second Floor is designed as an open-plan co-working environment. Here, there is a variety of workstations configurations, so that the needs of users with different preferences can be met. Single and Double monitor set-ups have been provided. Desks are located strategically so the possibility of glare is minimised. Workspaces arrangement can suit an individual, as well as teams to collaborate. Surface has been provided for ideation process in the form of magnetic white boards. A kitchenette area is also a part of the open-plan space, partitioned in a way that keeps it away from all the screens, stimulating circulation of users encouraged to socialise with each other in this break area, whilst making a cup of coffee for example. Storage spaces are accessible, stocked with further digital design tools one might need in the process. Printing station is located on this floor with a large format A1 plotter To provide an even mixture of workspaces and break areas, acoustic box loungers sit on the periphery of an open void which overlooks the new Atrium space with feature centrepiece lighting suspended in the centre. The box loungers also can be use as a reading booth as they are located in close proximity to a reading section with available learning resources.

THE USER EXPERIENCE This space encourages users to lead their projects idendependantly and manage them successfully. It provides three meeting rooms with capacity of 8 and one larger one - with capacity of 10. These can be booked by members or used as CPD spaces. Each Meeting room is equipped with a conference free-standing screen that can be used for calls, presentations , etc. There is a variety of seating to encourage discussions between members providing a “breathing” room with double-height ceiling above. Meeting rooms are built-in under the 04 Fourth Floor Mezzanine and are partitioned by ribbed glazing, which creates a level of obscurity whilst still keeping all activities visible to the other users. The Casual Lounge seating is also within a double-height space. It provides a relaxing setting for users to interact or just unwind in a more private area. A photography studio is available, also taking up a double-height space. This provides the necessary equipment to record progress of your project, prototypes or final pieces to a high standard.

THE USER EXPERIENCE
The existing Mezzanine Level on the 04th Level of The Generator Building is retained. Three Computer Suites are desgined. One of them offers a silent working space. This is to offer an area for those who are looking for piece and quiet to be able to concentrate as an alternative to the large open plan workstations on the 02 Second Floor. The rest have been set up as software training facilities, where users or even companies can gain further training by specialists. A break space is provided on this Floor with a Louning area and Kitchenette for those looking to step out and enjoy a drink or their lunch break for example.
