Saving lives “from the debris pile up.” When we develop products, we do it from the ground up. Or, in this case, “from the debris pile up.” Our mission is to save lives, not just develop and sell products. We’ve interviewed hundreds involved in avalanche accidents. We regularly interact with thousands of avalanche safety educators, snow safety professionals and avid powder junkies. We are constantly asking the question: “What can we do to save more lives?” This aggressive industry interaction and 22 years of snow-safety DNA gives us the perspective to develop programs and products that we think will make a difference. Sometimes this means developing revolutionary technology, like our Tracker–the world’s first digital avalanche transceiver. Sometimes it means taking an existing technology and making it more accessible by making it lighter, more affordable, or easier to use–like our Float airbags and BC Link radios. Or it can mean developing better techniques, like “strategic shoveling.” Most importantly, it means working with others in our industry to support and promote avalanche education. Our goal is only to save lives: we’ll do whatever it takes–whether that means new technology, new techniques, or just working hard to get people stoked on education.

™ AVALANCHE AIRBAGs According to the latest research, your chances of survival are twice as good if you’re wearing an airbag than if you’re not. With that kind of statistic, why doesn’t everyone use one? Because until recently, they’ve been too heavy and too expensive. Enter BCA’s Float system. AVALANCHE shovels / DIG HARD. PACK SMALL. In 2016-17, we have a new look to our shovel lineup. In addition to our mainstream, best-selling line of Bomber and Arsenal shovels, we’re now offering the specialty lineup of Rescue and Shaxe models—including the new Shaxe Tech shovel/ice axe combo for ski mountaineering. Our bombproof line of shovels are the first in the industry with non-round (oval and rectangular) shafts. Connect that to our heattreated, neckless blades and we have the strongest and most packable shovels you can find.
The weak point of most shovels is where the shaft connects to the blade. This is where we put the attention to detail and strength. Our oval shaft and welded construction give our shovels unbeatable strength.
BCA shovel blades lay flat in your pack with no protruding ferrule or “neck,” leaving more room for other backcountry essentials (and luxuries too).

AVALANCHE probes EVERY SECOND COUNTS
PACKAGES
Like our shovel lineup, BCA probes have a new look and feel. Our new graphics are more than just eye-catching. The depth-markings are easier to see when you’re performing a rescue or logging a snow profile. Our new tip penetrates debris easier. We’ve maintained our Stealth Quick-Lock hardware, creating a smaller bundle when folded up and eliminating loose cables that can hang up or worse, whip you in the face, when you’re furiously probing.
Bundling the backcountry essentials into packages makes it easier get geared up for your first trip in the backcountry. Due to popularity, our package offering is expanding with the addition of the Stash 20 Kit and T3 Package for 2016/17. New

educational resources Good backcountry habits start at a young age. That’s why BCA has redoubled our efforts to get teens and young twentysomethings educated before they even consider crossing the resort boundary. We’re a founding supporter of AIARE (American Institute of Avalanche Research and Education) and a key partner of the American Avalanche Institute, the oldest avalanche school in North America, which is training thousands of teens in avalanche safety. We’re a key supporter of Know Before You Go, a fast-moving education program targeting teens, conceived by the Utah Avalanche Center and now going national. This year BCA is taking our education program on the road as the education partner of the IFSA (International Freeskiers and Snowboarders Association) Jr. Freeskiing Tour, where we’re providing avalanche clinics and avalanche awareness training at the top national events.
Chilling at the IFSA Jr. Freesking National, Alpine Meadows, California.
We’re particularly proud of our founding role in The Avalanche Project, an unprecedented collaboration of industry members, educators, land managers, and forecasters with the goal of eliminating preventable fatalities through consistent messaging. By working with others we believe BCA can help “move the needle” more than working in isolation.
