Irina is a German painter. She makes her paintings on canvas with acrylics. In the beginning, her paintings had their roots in realism and she continued to experiment with new techniques, styles and materials. After graduating from art school, where she received a classical education, she became interested in contemporary innovative abstract art and continued her education. The suggestions and inspirations for her work, she takes nature with its different facets. The process of creating images is based on deliberate coincidence and exact development. At the centre of her work are the colours, lights, structures and forms that she wants to use in a certain harmony with the different techniques. Not too much to betray, not to imitate, which also means not to dictate. Your pictures are not some realistic replication, it is their representation that also requires something from the viewer: interpretation, feeling, contemplation.

In her work, Ariadna grew fascinated by the newer, less common contemporary mixed media materials, such as alcohol based ink, and is currently exploring how they can be used in the unique and unexpected ways. The creative process behind her “Organic Wreaths” and “Basal Elements” series involves experimentation with techniques to imitate and amplify nature. Ariadna creates forms and textures with natural aesthetic quality, reminiscent of organic cells, celestial structures, basic life forms or fossils. Due to the nature of materials and techniques used, the process of making is fluid and alive. The resulting forms and textures are partially chance and partially calculation; the outcome of both ceding the artist’s control over the process and being acutely aware of the development of forms and textures. Just like in nature, every resulting element is unique and cannot be repeated. To complete her compositions, Ariadna uses a combination of collage, cut-out and shadow techniques. While echoing shapes of the ink elements, the cutouts represent their stark contrast, highlighting fragility of our nature and the disparity between having and loosing. Ariadna’s work elicits a sense or wonder, transfigured into a moment of a much-needed reflection.

I paint intuitively without any plan for what the finished piece will be, allowing instinct to guide the creative process. Acting and reacting to the stroke of colour. This encourages my mood, interest and love of colour to be reflected in my work. I am influenced by rich childhood experiences in East Africa. In adulthood, I am further inspired by my surroundings, people, places, behaviour and emotion. My art is a representation of my perception of life- Dynamic, complex and yet simple. Vibrant colours are the main substance of my art works. Construct/deconstruct is my process. I name my paintings based on the emotional narrative whilst in the Studio.

Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties." Erich Fromm Allan paints in Cornwall, London and Wales. His work embraces abstract and figurative styles, painted in thick impasto oil, on large canvases with palette knives and squeegees. He says, "the power and texture of oil paint applied with a palette knife or squeegee, dictates I loosen up and chance plays a significant role"! Consistent with his postgraduate studies in psychology and surrealism, his consequent therapeutic work in the mental health and education professions, Allan’s working methodology is a faith in the artistic principle of creativity, as a fundamental coping device for healthy everyday living. The impasto palette knifed works of Sir Kyffin Williams and the squeegee paintings of Gerhard Richter influence Allan’s work. In particular Richter's polemic that "almost every work of art is an analogy" appeals to his sense of what it is to be human. "Art is making sense and giving shape to that sense. It is like the religious search for God." Gerhard Richter

The roots of Mari’s paintings lie in her deepseated affinity with landscape and weather, capturing the elemental forces of these wild places. Mari says about her work “In my abstract mixed media paintings I try to evoke the shift of weather and light on a landscape and this is reflected in the sense of movement and change in the work itself. Billowing colour, a play of line and mark, and the layering and wiping back of paint, give a sense of seeing through and beyond the surface. From the North Norfolk salt marsh coast to the rugged Cornish coastline, I sketch on location but in the studio I work from memory, using intuition and experimentation to evoke my experience of a place rather than a recognisable representation”.

Jen is a mixed media artist whose art is influenced by mapping of journeys and layering of memories. She has been both living and working in several countries.
She philosophically explains: ‘My work is based on the journey of life, its layers and strata. Through time and pressure, beauty is created - we mine the soul to find precious things. Life refines and polishes our history and the choices we have made. Our layers and compartments are filled with experiences and memories.’ The study of clay has influenced my art in the use of minerals, textures and formations. The resin creates the contrast between the dynamism of the elements of earth and water. The essential life forces!” Jen’s paintings can be truly appreciated when seen in person. In print, it is impossible to capture the spectacular and unique 3dimensional effect of Jen’s work, integrated with earth pigments, oils, resin and precious metal leaf.

Henrietta paints abstracts in oil on canvas in which she aims to evoke a time and a place, creating spaces full of light and memory. “It is not the appearance of a chosen motif but its own energies and mystery that form the heart of my paintings.“ Nature is the basis, the starting point, for the paintings, which rapidly take on a direction of their own where the dancing light or the feel of the wind becomes the main focus. They are compositions woven from images of the natural world. “It is the power and energy of nature that excites me. Light and movement allow the creation of the space in my work, often opening up huge vistas. The finished pieces range from almost totally abstract compositions evoking a sense of place to more easily recognisable landscape images: the natural world modulated by time and season, disclosed by visual texture and colour”
Henrietta’s works can be found in collections in New York, Houston, Sydney, Perth, Paris as well as the UK

Chelsea uses materials and techniques associated with both disciplines: painting and sculpture. Starting with unusual bases like concrete, steel or copper, she pours or dribbles paint, layers plaster or delicate gold leaf, then scrapes, cracks or corrodes her medium to get the effect she is searching for. As an art student, Chelsea was profoundly influenced by fieldtrips to a coalmine in Wales, to stone quarries in Portland, Dorset, and particularly to the former shipyard, Swan Hunter, in the North-East of England. She still has a vivid memory of standing in the foundry, watching as formidable metals became malleable through intense pressure and heat. "I can still feel the freezing cold, and recall the colour and intense heat of the furnace and the smell of molten metal" she says.

German artist John's conceptual work is an attempt to discern governing principles of the universe - art as a way of enquiring about the world. Artistic investigation, as a way of inquiring about the world, keeps asking the same perennial questions about origin of matter as science and religion. It bridges scientific and spiritual dimensions by conveying a message which is both: universal and deeply personal. His art transcends the dualism of objective and subjective, matter and spirit. It goes beyond the established framework of human knowledge and beliefs towards the state of ubiquitous oneness. He believes that every form of existence, from a thought, a feeling, matter to space and time is one and the same energy governed by the same principle and being a part of the Singular Universe. Dualism exists only as our perception and it is through their singularity that we can access the truth.

Katharine graduated with a fine art degree from Bristol in 2003. Since then she has been regularly showing her paintings in London and throughout the UK. She has become established painting contemporary beach scenes based on locations in the West Country and Scotland. More recently she has been focussing on the more structured landscape of woodland and particularly the effect of light through the trees. These painting maintain her distinctive painterly style. Working from sketches and photographs loosely based on definite locations, Katharine endeavours to create a window on an imaginary space. She likes to use gestural marks and loose brushwork to engage the viewer and charge the composition with movement and dynamism, whilst maintaining balance, building up the paint and alternating transparent and opaque layers, dripping, washing, splashing, allowing it to take its own fluid course and give the image a life of its own.

I am a contemporary painter and screen-printer. My work as an artist references the everchanging outlines of the landscape. I look at the shape and structure when creating my paintings, which are very gestural, exude energy and movement and are often on a large scale. Colour is integral to my work. Prior to becoming an artist I worked in the fashion industry surrounded by beautiful fabrics and textures. This, I believe, has been a big influence on me in my practice. I use a cocktail of bright and vibrant colours with a dash of fluorescent pinks, oranges and yellows. I let the colours and layers mix themselves on the canvas. For me the act of painting is a continuous process, always changing, always taking away to create something new. My recent body of work is based on a recent trip to India. In the North I was blown away with the intensity of colour and the vivacity of the cities. The South, in contrast, did not have the intensity of colour but had a more muted and hazy atmosphere. It is the combination of the two that has helped me create a new colour palette in this series of paintings.

Claire’s work starts with the tantalisingly forbidden act of cutting up maps, books and magazines. She creates her magazine paintings by cutting up magazines, destroying them to deliberately change the context of the images creating a new energy and tension. Liberating and transforming the figures beyond recognition to create ethereal yet provocative works that questions notions of identity and how women are perceived and how they perceive themselves. Claire creates entomological installations of flora and fauna from imagined locations, taking inspiration from nature and the environment. Her birds, insects and flowers transcend borders and pass freely between countries with scant regard for rules of immigration or the effects of biodiversity.

Adrienne paints in oils on canvas or linen and sometimes on silk or wood. “My latest work is abstract paintings suggesting land and seascapes. “It is imagination, it comes from nowhere and is not worked out in advance and decided upon in terms of content or shape or colour - it forms itself, the colours merge and it is allowed to be. I like the image to form itself as I start to work and build up layers of colour and shade. I am interested in painting in a seamless way avoiding lines and edges and even brush strokes. Lines and edges define things and influence how we perceive them so I like to remove any lines and edges by merging colour and form and so make suggestions to the viewer that might trigger a memory or feeling of somewhere or something. This smooth, seamlessness I think suggests a transience and so fluid subjects like air or skies or memories can be caught and held for our gaze. The work is about potential expressed in a non verbal language and because it is not prescriptive it is more open to allowing our own creative and emotional interpretation

The relationships between surface, colour, form and space are the main elements of my art. Inspired by abstract expressionism and minimalism my ideas aim to display painting as pure abstraction and solely about surface, colour and medium. This has been influenced through the way artists challenged whether there should be any association with representation and visual imagery, focusing purely on materials, process and form, the connection between the artist, the viewer, the artwork and it’s surrounding. These elements are important in the development and practice of the way each painting is thought out creating individuality and personality. The layers, thickness, colour combinations and the way in which the paint is applied to create the surfaces are essential in determining the outcome of the works. Colour combinations, size of shapes and the two types of surfaces are carefully considered and made through a process of intuition. This creates harmony, balance and sometimes discord engaging the viewer to have this experience. Chance and risk of the process contradicts the meticulous precise outcome of the paintings. The square shape expresses purity, the non-representational and total abstraction of colour, shape and texture.

Internationally exhibited artist Beth studied Textile Design at The University of the West of England and graduated in 2004.From Bristol she moved to London for a little under a decade, working in costume for film, television and theatre and teaching arts and craft workshops. In 2009, Beth was offered a post as an Artist in residence at Wycombe Abbey School for Girls. The residency helped her focus and build a strong foundation for her practise, exploring both femininity and textures and introducing her to the concept of Wabi-Sabi. Returning to London in 2011 Beth has been exhibiting in art fairs and exhibitions both nationally and internationally since. The foundation of my current body of work lies in the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi: exploring the beauty found within transience. From finding a rotting garment by a stream to a stream of consciousness, my current collection travels through ethereal, abstract landscape style paintings into figurative ink drawings that investigate the subconscious. My work is extremely cathartic. I spend hours slowly manipulating the ink to find the right composition and sometimes when its dry writing streams of consciousness on top of the work. The writing for me is an important element, as a dyslexic it can at times be a huge struggle, but at other times the thoughts flow and the time flies. My work therefore is about time and energy and expresses and exposes me as a person.

After an upbringing on the family farm on the coast of North Cornwall, I left my tractor behind to train in graphic design and illustration at Kingston University in the mid '80s. Since then I've spent thirty years in the creative industry in London, first as an illustrator and graphic designer, and now as a full time artist. The Capturing great outdoors, people, cities, landscapes and their interactions are my inspiration – recording my wanderings in sketches and photos to create a record of visited places that will then inform my studio paintings. In my work I seek to capture a moment of impression, as when emerging from an underground station into a busy unfamiliar sunlit street, heightened senses, momentary bright light blindness, the confusion of information, noise and movement – each painting seeks to create that initial hazy impression of place fused with precise primary detail, a lamppost, tree, vehicle, a shop window, a rushing commuter. It is my practice to make several paintings of the same subject with each one evolving in a different way due to the concerted randomness of mark making, overpainting, scraping back, repainting. Eventually my focus goes from the subject matter to the surface of the painting, familiarity with the subject allowing me to make marks of intuitive gesture to attain a figurative interpretation of the familiar.

‘I have a strong attachment to the natural world and a nostalgia for how collecting started for me. The Observer’s and Ladybird books, cigarette cards, maps and stamps that I use to make my work come from a more innocent age when i would pore over them by night and be out in the countryside looking for their contents by day. My work is a continuation of that obsession with collecting, cataloguing and observing’. Andrew lives and works in Whitstable, Kent and is Course Leader for Further Education at UCA, Canterbury. He has exhibited all over the world. He has work in the Tate Britain collection and many Artists Book collections in the UK, Europe and Russia. He sources the matchboxes from all over the world, particularly Eastern Europe and India and a lot are from the 1950's and 1960’s.

I have always worked in art and design, but my relationship with drawing and painting started much before then. My French mother would tell anyone who would listen, “Caroline always had a pencil in her hand” and I have a postcard from her parents asking if I was still drawing on the walls (I was three). This led to an art foundation course in Blackpool, followed by a degree in Mixed Media Textiles at Loughborough University which exposed me to the richness of working in diverse media and the creative opportunities such an approach presents. It’s often hard for art graduates to make their living out of the thing they love most, but I have been lucky enough to earn a living in a variety of creative environments. These have included working with diverse media, from all kinds of textiles to ceramics, plastics, paper and leather, producing soft furnishings, furniture, jewellery and accessories, all for interiors. Throughout my professional life I have pursued my own art, at the very least drawing and photographing for future reference. My art is suitable for both domestic and commercial interiors, small and large spaces with the aim of helping the viewer to pause and reflect in a frenetic world.”

Colin trained at the Reigate School of Art in Surrey, and now lives on the Sussex coast, soaking up the wonderful light and the beautiful, varied landscape. His work is inspired by the daily observation of his surroundings, combined with memories of past fleeting moments that are both personal and universal - perhaps a glimpse of the sea through woodland, a cloudburst, a howling gale or a cliff-top walk at sunset.‘Weather has fascinated me since childhood.
It's the sensation, the feeling of being in the landscape that I aim for - the mysterious, elemental and ever-changing drama of light and shadow, of wind, water and sky transforming a landscape in a blink of an eye. I want to capture the feeling, memory and the essence of a place and time in my work. I'll sometimes complete a piece outside, but I'm happiest making thumbnail pencil sketches on site with colour, wind and light direction notes, then working up the final painting in the studio with memory and imagination engaged. It's an organic process where the original sketch and/or memory is reconceived using layers of paint and scraping back and then more layers and scraping until there is a finished piece'

Corinne is a contemporary abstract artist, based in London, specialising in acrylic and mixed media paintings. She is passionate about painting and is regularly creating new artworks.
Her work is inspired by landscapes, nature, cities, travel, fashion, media and investigates colour, form, space and texture. She often works on seasons or nature based environments with colour, how colours work with one another and the colour relationship with the season or environment. Working with acrylic and mixed media, a blank white canvas takes on a new form through the expression of energy and begins to develop a life of it's own and a new entity, aiming to create vibrant and emotive works.
Corinne has sold works in the UK and internationally, for homes, offices, hotels and restaurants; exhibited in solo and group shows, as well as at a London Hotel and leading Art Fairs.

Wendy was born in Birmingham and attended Birmingham University where she gained her BA Hons Degree in Fine Art and Textile Design. Wendy is a rising star on the Contemporary Art Scene. Her work is collected by high profile celebrities and she has an international following, alongside a worldwide collector base. She supplies the corporate industry which includes high end hotels, apartments, restaurants and bars. Wendy’s style and method is instantly recognisable, with paintings that resonate with the beauty and history of impressionism, yet they speak with the contemporary voice and structure of abstraction. Seeking inspiration from her natural surroundings and her own personal life experiences, the composition of her works are well considered; with colours and shapes meticulously planned out long before she actually starts painting.

I studied architecture at The Silesian University of Technology in Poland and now live and work in London. Despite my architectural education, art has always been present in my life and has a significant influence on my perception of the world I inherited the love and passion for art and painting from my mother which started my journey into art. As an artist, I seek to create dramatic impressions through strong contrast, vibrant colours, dense mass of paint and various textures. My art is about feelings and emotions which everyone holds deep inside; about dreams and hope‌about passion and joy‌.about loneliness, fear and loss.

Born in Seville, Spai, Fernando creates expressive and ethereal paintings. Exploring themes of light, time, imagination and the human condition, Fernando sees art as a means of perceiving and making sense of reality. Ranging from small to large scale pieces, Fernando adheres to a neutral palette, which in turn works to capture his interpretation of reality in its purest form. Fernando’s art is characterised by dynamic swirls and palpable energy. His layering of both texture and meaning gives a real sense of depth to his art. In his own words, painting is a journey from the interior to the exterior, and painting responds to the need to express a particular emotion at a given moment. In his paintings the artist materializes feeling and externalizes his emotions. In this way, his abstractions are intended to flood the senses and emotions of the viewer forever.

Obsessed with colour, form, bold strokes and graphic shapes, my paintings are driven by my emotions following life experiences or topics I am passionate about. An abstract colourist, I use raw, unspoilt landscapes to define my colour palettes which I treat with sensitivity and extreme consideration. I have a natural perception of colour and composition, using the paint to express my daily life. I am heavily lead by my emotions which transcends into my expressionist style, whatever is happening in my life, it is reflected in my work. My pictures reveal captured moments, slices of time representing instants where clarity of an experience was seized, or a processing of an emotion was achieved. I work with mixed media, both acrylic and oil paint and also oil pastels.
Self-taught, but eager to experiment, my time in the studio is some of the best I’ve had, and I’m excited about the work to come.

Laura is a London based Italian artist. She studied painting in Venice at the Academy of Fine Art and sculpture at TAM Art Metal-Working School in Pietrarubbia (Pesaro-Urbino), Italy, supervised by sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro.
The tendency towards nothingness is inexorable and universal and even the things that have corporeity not have an illusion of stability. As things start to transform become more irregular and interesting. Nothing that exists is free of imperfections, and everything is in a constant state of becoming or dissolving. When things are close to non-existence become naturally more delicate and evocative. In my work, I am intrigued to see how science and art are connected; I try to strike a balance between painting, collage and installation. It revolves around the concept of Wabi-Sabi, transformation, time and connections.
In my recent paintings I worked from a mix of papers and my own photographs, either transcribed intact or altered to create a new composition. Through the painting process I try gently to heighten the qualities in the picture that first caught my attention.

Paul specialises in contemporary semi-abstract seascapes and landscapes. The two themes are very different in mood, style and perspective, but all endeavour to generate a sense of intimacy and isolation while leaving the subject open to interpretation. The intention is to create from memory to produce finished work that is abstracted and more expressional than representational. Paul’s main aim is to create work that is most definitely painted; an antidote to mass produced visuals we consume everyday. This is accomplished by using rich textures, multiple layers and brush/palette knife marks. Paul wants his paintings to tease out more than the eye can see, to draw people in and invite them to experience – not just consume – an image.

Sarah makes abstract oil paintings which in the physical world have very at surfaces and yet create an intense sense of depth and space. She Chooses pigments for the role they play in the history of trade and visual culture from the prehistoric era to the present day, so that the pigments hold a kind of quiet symbolism within a piece. She researches and paints in her studio every day. The act of making is an act of remembering. Her titles often reect these meanings. An invitation is extended to the viewer to fall into the spaces to get a little lost and to remember. Sarah has a long term interest in trade and its impact on people. She has an MSc in Development Studies, has lived and studied in China and travelled widely. She is interested in the way that trade impacts on people and place. Trade can be traced through the dispersal of pigment away from their geographical origins over the millennia. Visual culture gives us clues to earlier developments than the written word, seeming to suggest something universal in human experience and expression. Transforming these pigments into paintings is a daily task.

Born in 1972 in Devon, England, Jayson is a British contemporary artist who incorporates the practices of painting, collage and printmaking. He is recognised for producing works of urban scenes and iconic architecture. With influences coming from Japanese Ukiyo-e and Constructivism, Jayson has great admiration for the work of Katsushika Hokusai and Alexander Rodchenko. He now lives and works in London, drawing inspiration from the city environment and its hustle and bustle. His love of early twentieth century Art Deco and Bauhaus to the Brutalism of the post-war period is evident throughout his work. Characterised by its strong compositional structure and a limited palette, Jayson uses high contrasts with light and shadow to convey form and silhouette defined by his clean lines and large areas of flat colour. Jayson trained at UCA, where he gained a First Class Honours degree in Visual Communication. He worked in book cover design before becoming a professional artist. Jayson's paintings are represented by galleries worldwide and held in numerous private collections, most notably in London, New York, Hong Kong and most recently Moscow. His screen prints have been reproduced and published extensively around the world.

Gail was born in Malta and then moved to Cornwall (UK) where she spent her childhood. Her ancestors came from Southern Spain. She attended Exeter College of Art and Design (197981) where she gained a BA(Hons) in fine art. She has been painting consistently ever since and currently lives and works in Cambridge (UK). She now works as a full time artist. She has had many local exhibitions and also shows in London, Sweden and Spain 'My inspiration begins with the beauty of the natural world and how we connect with it at a deeper level. I start with a blank canvas or paper on the floor, deciding which way up it will go at a later stage. Slowly I build up layers of different materials, which may include acrylic paint, plaster, paper, chalks oils and pastels. I don’t have a preconceived idea of how the painting will look so that images, textures and colours just begin to form. The challenge is achieving a balance between conscious decisions and what arrives intuitively.

For as long as she can remember Laura has been passionate about nature and ecology. Fascinated by the structures and movement within a grassy meadow or woodland with its tangle of leaves and branches, even the humble roadside verge. ‘Contained within each vista are so many lines of beauty that the eye finds it difficult to take it all in at once. There is a push and pull as one point emerges then recedes as the eye focuses on one aspect and then another. It leaves one awestruck at the complexity of it all. It reveals connections we have to our environment and the conflict between our inner and outer interpretations of reality.’ We experience it as a ‘whole’ but when it comes to painting, the landscape has to be closely observed, deciphered, deconstructed and then reconstructed. Laura picks out the shapes, layers and space in these complex landscapes then uses collected plants and grasses then pressing into plaster with earth pigments and oil glazes. Using gold leaf, earth and plant matter is transmuted like an alchemical process into ‘nature icons’. The paintings are focused on communicating that magical beauty and peace of mind that being in nature creates.

Born into a family of artists, Bagueps studied applied arts in Paris at Oliviers de Serre, specializing in interior design. After graduating, she worked for a French cabinet-making firm for seven years, where she gained her experience in creating materials and finishes. In her paintings, she strives to translate the peaceful feeling she gets from the inspiration of nature, in particular the beauty of the sky. Having painted since childhood, Bagueps aims to capture the colourful vibrations of the everyday; the sky is a constantly changing canvas she wishes to replicate. Her principal subject is the inbetween; the flux between two states. She begins with an initial inspiration and then lets the painting guide her. Mixing different materials such as acrylic, oil, marble powder and silver powder, the colour and texture takes on its own form.

Since 2010 London based artist Ewan has created abstract images from reality, drawing particular inspiration from organic and manmade patterns created in cartography. By gilding with precious metals or using complimentary colours he aims to focus the viewer on the sacredness and diversity of our living landscapes. High levels of accuracy and dedication are used in the construction of the artworks, emphasising their status as a method of art-asdocumentation. Whilst looking into various historical maps Ewan discovered Charles Booth’s Descriptive Map of London Poverty from 1889. Booth set out to define levels of poverty and wealth in London, house by house using a colour coded system. Examples of these colours included Black defining Lowest class; Red defining Middle class and Yellow defining the Upper class. Continuing on the theme of creating abstract images from reality, Ewan discovered the defined colours became an abstract image in themselves. By removing the colours and replacing them with one colour; Gold, he drew on the egalitarian nature of the city. Since this first London artwork, the city where he is based, he has used present day and historical maps of significant cities and redefined the buildings in gold. The context of these works also represent a snapshot of our ever-changing landscape that could potentially be completely re-written in as little as a decade.

Lisa is a contemporary abstract artist. Sharing her time between North London and North Yorkshire. “Although I have A ‘levels in Art and History of Art, I am mostly self taught. My speciality is acrylic and mixed media and I take my influence from the patterns and textures of our amazing world.” “I love the feeling of freedom and energy that the use of different mediums allows. Often, something as simple as a variation in texture or direction can create something totally unexpected. Each of my paintings reflects the different layers and adventures in life that create our own unique individuality. It is for this reason that I leave it up to the owner of the painting to decide which way it should hang.” “We all see something different!”

Thomas is an international sculptor undertaking private, public and corporate commissions using an extensive range of materials. Following his passion for sculpture that responds to aesthetics and mathematics within nature, Thomas has developed a distinctive style of contemporary and mainly abstract work. His creations are based on an ethos that the simplest forms are often the most beautiful. From this idea, his belief grew that perfection within our environment has resulted from the simple and beautiful laws nature follows. The ratio 1.681 known as PHI or the Fibonacci sequence, offers a mathematical principle seen widely within natural aesthetics which are frequently applied within Thomas’s designs. By exploring such naturally occurring principles, he strives to create unique and inspirational objects.

With a background in architecture, interior and furniture design Philip is a self-taught sculptor and specialises in sand casting to make pieces which engage the quality of bronze as a noble material in its own right. Sculptures are intimate in scale and intended for the interiors of home, office or hotel. Casting in sand moulds is a simple and ancient method far removed from the sophisticated lost wax operation used by most art foundries. The sand-casting process is relentless and unforgiving - the foundry is no place for a delicate original. It denies a complexity of form that imposes a disciplinary and enriching simplicity. He cuts, carves, grinds or welds the cast bronze to create unique forms before invariably exposing the natural bronze or oxidising to produce the unique surface finishes that have always been an essential dimension of his work.

” Beauty to me is simplicity, clarity, concentration and must extend beyond decorative prettiness. Beauty is to be able to hold contradictions, tensions and ambivalence – it is a balance kept despite conflict. I am fascinated by ”strong form”. With both figurative and abstract sculptures, I search for a sense of fullness contrasted with negative shapes; sharp angles between surfaces, juxtaposed with smoothness.”
Some of her ideas for sculptures derive from her other career as an arts educator and therapist, which makes her very aware of the psychological and expressive potential of sculptures: “I am influenced by C.G. Jungʼs ideas of archetypes and equally by childhood memories of Sunday visits to a catholic church filled with Baroque carvings . I reconnect with the tradition of sculptures seen in places of worship, and work towards a spiritually potent image used in a secular context.

Working in bronze, copper, steel and stainless steel - Philip designs and creates unique and bespoke sculpture, furniture and artworks for home, garden and public or business environments. He designs, fabricates and installs public art pieces and runs workshops in schools and with community groups. Philip creates an eclectic range of sculpture and contemporary furniture. Highly aesthetic in nature, you will find much of his work curvaceous and tactile, but with a coarseness that is lent from working with bare steel or stainless steel. His style ranges from figurative to abstract and is always in context with its environment.
