A scientist by training, I decided I needed to exercise the right side of brain and fulfil my absolute joy of painting. I am an enthusiastic artist. Big, bright and bold is my style; I can’t seem to tone it down really, in fact I'm getting slightly too exuberant occasionally. I enjoy painting animals, landscapes and flowers. I strive to capture the luxuriance of blousy peonies and roses in a fresh and contemporary style. I constantly experiment with unconventional combinations and thick swathes of paint to create a semi-abstract swirly style of painting. I’m absolutely delighted when it works.

In my work, I am intrigued to see how science and art are connected; I try to strike a balance between painting, collage and installation. It revolves around the concept of Wabi-Sabi, transformation, time and connections.

In my recent paintings I worked from a mix of papers and my own photographs, either transcribed intact or altered to create a new composition. Through the painting process I try gently to heighten the qualities in the picture that first caught my attention.

As things start to transform become more irregular and interesting. Nothing that exists is free of imperfections, and everything is in a constant state of becoming or dissolving. When things are close to non-existence become naturally more delicate and evocative.

LIZ “I am a self-taught artist born in the UK and now located in Warrington, having lived in Mauritius during my career. I am interested in the intangible, that which we feel but cannot translate. My paintings begin with feelings derived from alternative perspectives bordering on a spiritual level. Inspirations for me are found within the colours of nature; such as the iridescence of a paua shell or reflected light underwater. Working the contrasts of depth, texture & luminosity and a slightly obsessive edge, intricacy & layering. I choose to take you on a journey of the cosmos around me and the discovery of art being a spiritual experience.”

VIVIENNE Vivienne works with a combination of hand drawn design and CAD, often incorporating processes such as screen prints in her work. “I have a BA (Hons) degree in ‘Contemporary Surface Design & Textiles' and I am a freelance artist-designer based in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. I like to hand draw my designs, but I am also expert in the use of computer assisted design (CAD) technology. My portfolio of work incorporates the use of screen printing, luxury surface patterns, digital printing, hand / machine embroidery, hand / machine knit, and threedimensional constructed textiles. I specialise in bespoke art work and contemporary costume jewellery products. These include brooches, bracelets, necklaces, hand printed luxury silk scarves, framed artwork which can be made to order. I invite commercial and private commissions tailored to the clients specific requirements.”

GEORGINA “I was born in 1983 here in the UK and grew up in a medium sized town in Cheshire, a lovely place with old empty mill buildings, a gorgeous Victorian park and a rich visual history. I always loved looking at the buildings around me as I grew up, imagining how things were in the past - I still do in fact. With my paintings I aim to evoke thoughts of nature, gardens and skies in those viewing them, but simultaneously I like for the works to retain an element of ambiguity, of total abstraction, thus leaving them completely open to interpretation - I love hearing what people see in my work! Alongside for my passion for natures sits a deep-seated passion for spontaneity and expression , which finds its form in the brush marks and spiralling gestural lines which come to rest on top of the soft atmospheric veils of colour which make up the body of my paintings. My more abstract work focuses on just that, abstraction! But also colour and speed, simply enjoying the colours and the paint. I sometimes like to switch my processes around, allowing myself to work in a much freer, simpler abstract style.

FREDERICK Frederick attended Salisbury Art College and studied Graphic Design and Foundation at Art. Leaving his studies he pursued a career as a commercial artist, muralist and interior designer. Over the past decade, he has produced commissions for Colfax and Fowler, Cabbages and Roses and Taylor Wimpey amongst many other reputable companies. Frederick creates art that has an all-absorbing quality, one that makes it hard to tear yourself away. ‘I want the viewer to feel like they are standing in front of a banquet and their eyes want to gorge themselves on everything in sight.’

PAUL G Paul's work looks at Phenomenology... the structure of different forms of experience including perception, thought, memory, imagination, emotion and desire. Through the use of multiple exposures the work depicts the joining together, combination and amalgamation of many different images, the same way knowledge is built up through perceiving. This layering also allows him to capture all of the available light and shadow from the landscape, which merges together to create images that are both beautiful and mysterious.

MIREIA “Since my youth, I have been passionate about art which I found was a balance to my interests in more pragmatic subjects, such as maths and science. This very much reflects my personality which also explains my profession as an architect; a profession that is both regimented and boundless. Art gives me the control to break rules and paint by instinct.

Painting is my chosen medium, but I am equally fascinated by sculpture and find inspiration in works by Rodin and Michelangelo. I especially admire the manner in which Rodin seemingly left some of his pieces unfinished or rough around the edges to better express movement and life. This is a style I also enjoy in paintings, best exemplified by Turner, an artist whose use of light and tone I feel has greatly affected me in my personal and artistic capacity.”

RACHEL “I started to paint simply for pleasure and very rapidly, to my surprise and delight, my work generated a great deal of interest. This inspired me to experiment with innovative techniques and mixed media to develop my own style. I aim to create bold, vibrant, emotive and energetic canvases. The paintings range from representational images to textural abstracts, from wildlife to majestic coastal scenes with a great deal in between. I like to think that the use of striking colour is the defining indicator of my work.” Rachel has participated in many exhibitions throughout the UK to wide acclaim; and has been published on calendars and Christmas and greetings cards. She is regularly invited to exhibit at the Art Shed Gallery in Ware, Hertfordshire. Recently her work has been displayed at the Picture Craft Gallery Holt, Norfolk. Rachel paints both for exhibition and by private and public commission's

GLENN Glenn’s work is about marks in their simplest form. Using ink on paper, oils or soft pastel pigments, his art is elemental and unadorned.

Inspiration comes from a variety of sources, both contemporary and ancient. While using a very contemporary visual language Glenn's work also conveys a sense of Oriental and Arabic arts, and a universal feeling of timelessness. Time suspended... moments out of time. It is an art with a deep, contemplative quality.

References can be found in the patterns and decoration of ancient pottery or parchment fragments, or the unusual marks incised into ancient clay tablets. Pictures of landscapes and animals also appear, or traces of cities from long ago. There is movement and there is calm, and we sense a thread running throughout of the presence of the natural world: water, or light passing through leaves, or horizons of distant hillsides. Stories are suggested, but we can never be certain. Glenn was born in West Yorkshire, UK. He received a Degree in Painting from Central Saint Martins in London and his work has been exhibited and applied in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. He now lives in Bordeaux, France.

MICHAEL H I studied A level art at Blackpool and the Fylde College where I learnt the basics of drawing and painting. I progressed my work further by studying at The Cumbria College of Art & Design where I achieved a degree in fine art. My style changed dramatically from a traditional style to a kind of semi abstract expressionist style of landscape painting to total abstraction which is where I feel most comfortable. I use a variety of techniques and applications which may include painting, airbrush, photography and digitally collage. I’m interested in the effect of shapes and forms and how they can be arranged together over interesting grounds to create space and movement.

Alexander
lexander, in the tradition of collage, is pursuing a very personal obsession
of creating narrative scenarios in small format. Using antiquarian books, he makes the work simultaneously an exploration and a deconstruction of nostalgia.
We create our own past from fragments of reality in a process that combines the wilful aspects of remembering and forgetting with the coincidental and unconscious. By using pre-existing media as a starting point, certain boundaries are set by the material, those Alexander aims to transform through his creative process. Thus, an encyclopaedia can become a window into an alternate world, much like lived reality becomes its alternate in remembered experience. These books, having been stripped of their utilitarian value by the passage of time, regain new purpose. They are no longer tools to learn about the world, but rather a means to gain insight about oneself. Alexander makes book sculptures / cut books by working through a book, page by page, cutting around some of the illustrations while removing others. In this way, he builds the composition using only the images found in the book.

ANDY M I
have a strong attachment to the natural world and a nostalgia
for how collecting started for me. The Observer’s and Ladybird books, cigarette cards, maps and stamps that I use to make my work come from a more innocent age when i would pore over them by night and be out in the countryside looking for their contents by day. My work is a continuation of that obsession with collecting, cataloguing and observing’. Andrew lives and works in Whitstable, Kent and is Course Leader for Further Education at UCA, Canterbury. He has exhibited all over the world. He has work in the Tate Britain collection and many Artists Book collections in the UK, Europe and Russia. He sources the matchboxes from all over the world, particularly Eastern Europe and India and a lot are from the 1950's and 1960’s.

RICHARD S B
y embracing the infinite depths and textures of a non-objective and abstracted style, Richard delves deep into the human psyche where he captures and conveys stolen moments of the emotive experience. His work immerses the viewer in a conceptual yet soulful representation of the human condition, and subtly invokes whispers of vulnerability and fear. The canvases are formed through the dynamic layering of ink, aerosol, oil and emulsion, which traverse a labyrinthine expanse of projection and consciousness; and whilst hosting such an authentic and beguiling aesthetic, the viewer becomes engulfed within an assiduous approach to sacred geometry and visual composition. With an inspired acknowledgment of such pioneers as Boccioni and Lowry, Richard manifests both depth of movement and emotive expression whilst retaining a crafted economy of rich simplicity.

ANGELA
fter a long career in higher education I discovered two new passions in my life in 2006: art and psychotherapy. I retrained as a therapist and have been continuously working towards improving my artistic output ever since that ‘Eureka’ moment. Much of my earlier range of work was influenced by my psychotherapy training; the pieces were concerned with memories and dreams peeling away at them layer by layer. The work that followed were abstract representations of landscapes finding inspiration in the beauty of the outside world: gentle landscapes in the UK, the Arctic Circle, the warm and fiery tones of Mediterranean countryside, dramatic skyscapes and the movement of the sea and the dramatic beauty of flowers. Viewers often comment on the strong colours that I use in my work. Observing nature offers the inspiration for the vivid greens, magentas and yellows that are frequently found in my work. Try as I might I struggle to work in monochromes – colour always creeps in and takes over.

CRISPIN Following his studies in BA(Hons) Fine Art, Crispin furthered his creative knowledge by working for several years in the graphic design and print making industries. He returned full time to his first passion of painting in 2015 and continues to produce stunning work from his SW London studio. Crispin’s interest lies in the definition of form and application of colour theory to create intriguing and challenging compositions. His thought process is inspired by everyday visual experiences and the idiosyncratic nature of human observation. All of his work is conceived and drawn on paper before being painted by hand onto canvas or board. Particular attention is then paid to the finer details of edge definition and tonal consistency until the paintings are as flawless as can be achieved. Crispin’s paintings are process heavy, meticulously produced and extremely precise. His methods result in bold, striking images that provoke the viewer to question what they see, bringing visual pleasure and igniting individual reflection. "Where the Old Masters created an illusion of space into which one could imagine walking, the illusion created by a Modernist is one into which one can look, can travel through, but only with the eye." Clement Greenberg

TM As a self taught artist all my artwork is inspired by the music I make as a producer & the music I listen to as a DJ, and also from what I see on an everyday basis, from colour & texture to shape & form. I also draw a lot of inspiration from the worldwide graffiti scene & the lifestyle & culture that is hip hop. The various colours & textures that I see in everyday life from an old rusty door to flaking paint on walls, and these inspirations build into multi textured pieces. I draw inspiration from inner city life and the natural decay of urban spaces.

LISA Lisa is a contemporary abstract artist. Sharing her time between North London and North Yorkshire. “Although I have A ‘levels in Art and History of Art, I am mostly self taught. My speciality is acrylic and mixed media and I take my influence from the patterns and textures of our amazing world. I love the feeling of freedom and energy that the use of different mediums allows. Often, something as simple as a variation in texture or direction can create something totally unexpected.” “Each of my paintings reflects the different layers and adventures in life that create our own unique individuality. It is for this reason that I leave it up to the owner of the painting to decide which way it should hang.” “We all see something different!”

Patterns are made by the weave of thread in cloth, the repeated laying of bricks in a wall, the individual decisions of a billion consumers or the single pixel of a digital screen. They record a process of thinking and making inside every product created by men. Patterns are blueprints, used to move data across space and time. Complex patterns inside nature remember a million years of Darwinian history. Patterns of human settlement, grids of streets and pavements remember the interests and politics of people now long gone. The pattern of a fingerprint records identity, controls our access to space and allows movement across national boundaries. Form, identity and icon are spectacles which can be constructed. In a world of spectacle, pattern is silent and barely noticeable. It is often invisible, often unintentional. It is manifested in elegance, logic, beauty, brutality, music, weather, language, planning, coincidence and accident. Patterns are dynamic, stable and restrictive in every measure. I work with patterns because they construct and constrain reality, for better and for worse. Although they are quiet (because they are quiet) they are very powerful. Made visible by art, they can be exposed, interrogated and challenged.”

CASS I was born in Exeter, Devon in 1972; and educated at Exeter College. Currently my practice involves ink drawings and abstract painting. My influences are literally all around me, from crowded city to isolated moor, I enjoy walking, extensively over Dartmoor, in local forests and on the south Devon coast. I am a self-taught artist who whilst recovering at home from slipped discs, found my attention drawn to my household paints and old wallpaper stored in the garden shed. I experimented with dripping and then vigorously swiping gloss paints over a large cut section of wallpaper. Impressed with the results I researched local art opportunities, and my work was shown in a local gallery where it was warmly received. My paintings are produced from a standing-above position, I lay my canvas/board on the studio floor, dip thin bamboo into paints, and then from a 360° position begin work.

GRACE “Grace is an independent fine artist working in London. She has exhibited extensively, including at “The Biscuit Factory”, “Vyner Street” and “The Royal British Institute”. In 2009 she was awarded a chance to appear alongside Paula Rego and Peter Blake in an international auction of art-works in the ‘Newcomers' section and in 2011 worked alongside Katerina Seda at the Tate Modern. Most recently she was selected as a featured artist for Rise Art's Top 100 artists of the future. Grace's abstract landscapes act as a sort of escapism from city life and a channel into the natural world. In particular, Berlin and the ideology surrounding the forest has strongly influenced her work. The poet Tom Westerman reviews Grace's practice from a recent exhibition: ‘Through the artist's experience of natural beauty spots within cityscapes and raw pastoral settings the sense of awe these paintings instil work as a powerful reminder of the infinite colour, diversity and multi-dimensionality of human experience.' Grace works with Interior Designers, private collectors and galleries. Her paintings can be found all over the world including London, Oman & New York. Representation includes The Hornshaw Gallery, Degree Arts, Luminaire Arts & Rise Art.”

ELENA Elena is a London based contemporary abstract painter. Praised for her natural feel for colours, she is an astute observer of interpersonal relationships, which inspire her to create thought-provoking works. A self-taught painter, Elena was born in 1980 in a small town in Transylvania. She lived in Paris and travelled extensively before settling down in London a decade ago. Elena's paintings are abstract poetical representations of friendships, love stories, family or professional relationships in our cosmopolite and multicultural society. In order to represent feelings, she continuously develops her own language that is dominated by bold colours and shapes. Elena enjoys the versatility of the acrylic mediums and paints, using pouring, spraying, glazing and other techniques to create layers and depth. She loves to explore the way the paint moves and colours blend and to experiment with the textural qualities of the paint using original and unconventional application tools. Elena is proud to participate in prestigious exhibitions like the SWA Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London and also to have works residing in private collections in USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Belgium, France and the UK.

BAGUEPS Born into a family of artists, Bagueps studied applied arts in Paris at Oliviers de Serre, specializing in interior design. After graduating, she worked for a French cabinetmaking firm for seven years, where she gained her experience in creating materials and finishes. In her paintings, she strives to translate the peaceful feeling she gets from the inspiration of nature, in particular the beauty of the sky. Having painted since childhood, Bagueps aims to capture the colourful vibrations of the everyday; the sky is a constantly changing canvas she wishes to replicate. Her principal subject is the inbetween; the flux between two states. She begins with an initial inspiration and then lets the painting guide her. Mixing different materials such as acrylic, oil, marble powder and silver powder, the colour and texture takes on its own form.

SUMIT A self-taught artist, Sumit has pursued Master of Science in international fashion marketing from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. He has worked with online art galleries and exhibited his works, both group and solo shows across the UK and India. Sumit enjoys making artworks from different mediums that please the mind and soul of the individual. Describing his style of work, the Delhi-based artist avers, “My main genre of work is nature and abstraction, which is prominent in most of the works. I love abstraction and the fact that everyone perceives it differently. It brings me pleasure to see how people relate to different shapes and colours, and interpret them differently.” Sumit works aren't restricted to one style or medium of work. His works range from contemporary art to abstract art, digital art, mixed media, wall sculptures and photography.

att took to printmaking in 2005. Always exploring heavily layered large format monotypes, his work best described as peaceful abstraction, which is an antidote to to a hectic London lifestyle, harking back to his halcyon days in Australia when he spent his formative years. He likes to allow the viewer to spend time with the work, absorbing the details and read their own interpretation into his work. He has presented work in many group shows and had his first solo in July of 2015

LYRA The appeal of Lyra's ‘scapes' is in the creation of atmosphere through her connection with colour. She creates abstract but instinctively balanced compositions through an open and experimental approach to her practice.

Conceptual visions using a variety of mediums from digital to photography and abstract panting. Exploring colour and texture to create from. My work is more from the subconscious no real plan as such but grows from a seed, a single point which looks to create form from chaos.
Digital is what I am known for drawing from anime and concept art in my early days, space and cityscapes to textured abstracts which I create today. I have no one style no one medium but a continuing evolution through experimentation.

I am an abstract artist influenced by Gerhard Richter and Mark Rothko, my work explores our argumentative nature and the tension we bring to everything. I Use contrasting styles, techniques and bold colour choices. My intention is to create a battle for the viewers attention between foreground and background. A visually defined argument or discussion upon the canvas’s surface. Sometimes the painting will be the end... ...sometimes it is ‘digitally remixed'. Using photographs and software, I remix the original paintings concepts to create a different interpretation. This style of working harks back to my childhood, when the remix first began to feature in music. A song would be released with a remix as the Bside. Sometimes the remix would become bigger than the original song, it took on a life of its own and would be hardly recognisable to the original sound, but it owed its life to that original song without it, it couldn't exist.

CHERYL D Originally from England Cheryl has lived and worked extensively in south East Asia, Australia and across Europe returning to the UK just a few years ago. Working mainly in oils, acrylic, enamel, PVA and industrial paint The artist rarely uses a brush preferring instead to use bare hands and other unconventional approaches. This results in totally unique and idiosyncratic pieces, each borne from a singular moment in their imagination or memory. The artist’s aim is to produce completely original pieces that become a conduit between the viewer and their own imagination.

JUSTYNA I
graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. I have been choosing …s i l e n c e… as the subject of my paintings for the last nine years in an attempt to grasp what is often a result of meditation or contemplation – the undisturbed inner peace… This silence helps me to find the balance with my inner soul. … get rid off the thoughts, information, noise which invade us constantly every day. It strengthens my concentration, helps to leave the useless matters from our mind and keep only the valuable and inspiring ones. Owing to this wonderful silence we are able to reach the great state of contemplation, the blissful state which soothes our soul, body and mind. The purpose of my performance is to make this state come closer .By use of the compositions and the harmony of colors I would like to create the state of softening and infect the spectator with it. My main source of inspiration lies in nature, however what I paint is rather a state of mind than the real world.

JANE W Jane's work references the ever changing outlines of the landscape. Her gestural paintings exude energy and movement, and are often on a large scale. Her abstract paintings contain a real sense of place, inspired in equal measure by the South Downs and London. The amalgamation of these contrasting environments is evident in her work. From this is an obvious process of deconstruction and reconstruction. For Jane the act of painting is a continuous process, always changing and taking away, to create something new.

SUSAN W I have been an abstract expressionist painter since my early teens. The immediacy and freshness of this style as well as its complexity and boldness has always spoken to me. To this end I usually paint with acrylic paint in an alla prima style, in a spontaneous and physical way, moving back and forth across the canvas, making marks that dance across that surface. I start by introducing colour, shapes and line, then respond to their development. I move these elements around, adding and removing paint in multiple layers, having been described as an emotional painter. I've been described as an emotional painter, my abstract paintings are my first love as I am free to indulge and be spontaneous experimenting with colours and textures, creating multiple layers resulting in visceral unique painting with mood and depth. Over the years I have sold many paintings at Art & Craft Fairs and Exhibitions and, more recently, my paintings are in customers homes all over the world, Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain, UK and the USA My inspiration comes whilst walking on the beach or in the many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty that Wales has; a holiday I've taken, seasons, landscapes and my imagination. In my abstracts I try to represent my personal thoughts and emotions which I capture on canvas and express through bold colour, strong composition, textures and shapes

ANASTASIA The relationships between surface, colour, form and space are the main elements of my art. Inspired by abstract expressionism and minimalism my ideas aim to display painting as pure abstraction and solely about surface, colour and medium. This has been influenced through the way artists challenged whether there should be any association with representation and visual imagery, focusing purely on materials, process and form, the connection between the artist, the viewer, the artwork and it’s surrounding. These elements are important in the development and practice of the way each painting is thought out creating individuality and personality. The layers, thickness, colour combinations and the way in which the paint is applied to create the surfaces are essential in determining the outcome of the works. Colour combinations, size of shapes and the two types of surfaces are carefully considered and made through a process of intuition. This creates harmony, balance and sometimes discord engaging the viewer to have this experience. Chance and risk of the process contradicts the meticulous precise outcome of the paintings. The square shape expresses purity, the non-representational and total abstraction of colour, shape and texture.

Sophie's work seeks to interpret the essentiality beyond the purely visual. She has a curiosity in how memory can focus this; filter it, and how individuals with the same visual experience can come away with such different visual memories of it. The process of creating allows an idea to expand and distil again as a concept, with images often becoming abstract and calm in the process.

KIRAN Kiran is an artist using the concept of translating the ephemeral nature of thought to a visual form, where the spoken words are silenced and the art imagery is tuned into the invisible forms of engagement, where emotions are aroused and intuition is channelled. All works are open to the personal perceptions of the viewer for each is impacted through their own processes of personal and impersonal thought. The medium of acrylic, pastels and ink are used in a form that is an extension of a waking meditative practice using the actions of painting to access the instincts that require an exhalation. Where painting as a need becomes as inevitable as breath is to being alive. Previously exhibited works throughout London and visual artist for the published book The Future We Choose alongside numerous features in online and magazine publications. Living and working in the East of England.

A painting is a series of marks which capture the moment. I bring everything about me that day. As I paint I get more and more brave and that’s often when the best marks are made, because my cognitive processes are stepping away. I’m bringing feelings and emotions to it, my history with art and the understanding I have with other artists.

You need to start somewhere so I look at previous paintings around my studio. That first mark is something to bounce off, the opening line in a conversation, but doesn’t necessarily dictate where it goes afterwards. There’s the dynamics of marks against each other. I might make the first mark on two or three boards at one go and they react differently.

JANE ELIZABETH
J
ane Elizabeth was born near London, spent her teenage years on the Isle of Wight, and several subsequent years attending University in the UK and Canada. Following this, Jane had a long career in the NHS as a speech and language therapist, working primarily with children with communication disorders. She also followed her passion for dance through postgraduate study in Dance Movement Therapy at Roehampton Institute in London. During these years, Jane also painted and exhibited her work, as time and circumstance allowed, and then made the decision in 2015 to work as a full time painter. Jane’s painting is inspired by her dance background, and by her travels through the beautiful landscapes and coastlines of the UK, mainland Europe and New Zealand. She spends as much time as she can outdoors in nature, trying to capture the fleeting movement of light and shadow as the weather moves across hills, valleys and water; her photographs, sketches and notes are later used as inspiration for her paintings back in her small studio on the English/Welsh borderlands.

LISA Lisa is a contemporary abstract artist. Sharing her time between North London and North Yorkshire. “Although I have A ‘levels in Art and History of Art, I am mostly self taught. My speciality is acrylic and mixed media and I take my influence from the patterns and textures of our amazing world.” “I love the feeling of freedom and energy that the use of different mediums allows. Often, something as simple as a variation in texture or direction can create something totally unexpected. Each of my paintings reflects the different layers and adventures in life that create our own unique individuality. It is for this reason that I leave it up to the owner of the painting to decide which way it should hang.” “We all see something different!”

SARAH P From a position of material knowledge gained through learning paint’s inner rules, my work is a collaboration between my own desires and the unpredictable tendencies of my materials. I seek to create opportunities for chaos and order sit side by side as elements of chance are employed through carefully considered mathematical systems, making visible the materiality of paint and the event of painting itself.

ANDREW F Born in the UK in Birmingham in 1979, Andrew graduated from Lancaster University with a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art and Geography in 2001. Andrew was awarded a scholarship in recognition of his achievement and contribution to the Art Faculty. His large canvases were exhibited at the university for three years. Andrew lived in Abu Dhabi from 2004 until 2015 and took inspiration from the arid and exotic landscape and water that makes up Abu Dhabi and its surrounding islands. His work is a direct and emotional response to the natural world and in particular the physical geography of the landscape. When drawing and painting he works and reworks areas as if sediment is being deposited then eroded, scratched, scraped, up to the point where the fluidity of the landscape flows across the canvas, texturing each composition until it reads like Braille. He paints in an instinctive way, interpreting the force of nature and moving between impressionism and semi-abstraction. His work is in many private and corporate collections including Goldman Sachs, Coutts Bank, Standard and Poor’s and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre. Andrew has exhibited in the UK at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and lives in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Gina
ina’s landscape paintings are both a description from memory and an exploration of the aesthetic qualities of the painting medium. The horizon line is a recurring reference in her work, along with contrasts of light found in a dramatic landscape. Rather than focusing on the sky, like many traditional landscape artists, Gina is instead drawn to the details and earthy textures on the ground. In all, she aims to capture the experience of a place; a depiction of what she has seen, smelt, touched and heard. Through a slow process of building up many thin layers of both acrylic and oil paint, Gina continually scrapes off and adds layers, using different tools to make marks. In doing so, the physical process of her work remains clear to the viewer, as well as sensing her connection to that place. Gina moved to London, from Australia, in 1996 to pursue her career as an Interior Designer. In 2003, Gina changed her path and went on to study full time at Wimbledon School of Art obtaining a BA Fine Art painting degree in 2006, just at the same time she began a family. From 2012 she attended regular life drawing classes at Heatherly’s School of Art and has only recently begun to paint again from September 2013. Gina draws inspiration from her memory and connection with the Australian landscape. She also spends much of the year on the East coast of the Scottish Highlands and is inspired from her time spent outdoors in the vast open spaces, witnessing the seasonal changes and dramatic beauty.

EMILY K Emily was born into a family of artists in Zambia in the early eighties, these roots have always had a deep impact on her painting. The majority of Kirby's work has drawn on the study of people and wildlife, using the figure as the central object for interpretation. Bold brush work and a loose expressive technique has become a defining aspect of her work.

TERESA B Teresa graduated from Chelsea College of Art in 2015. Through her work she questions the fidelity and validity of our personal histories and our perceptions of them, which in turn challenge our concepts of personal identity and self. The act of remembering is an act of creation. I interpret the concept of memory construction in my paintings by exploring how materials react and interact with each other. The drying time between applications, the order of layering and choice of media all contribute to a continuously changing outcome. Each layer interacts with and changes those that precede and follow it whilst retaining its own properties. Teresa's paintings are drawn from memories and abstracted such that the elements collate to form an emotional response using colour, rather than a literal interpretation. Her work calls upon her own experiences and childhood memories from Malta as source material. The metallic inks within the paintings change their appearance as the viewer navigates around the room, and in doing so creates different viewing experiences from multiple angles.

ViR
irginia was born in Mendoza, Argentina but she has travelled and lived in different cities and abroad, which not only made her search for “there must be more”, but also to understand that the only thing that remains in all of those places is the art and architecture. She completed her Master of Science in Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, since arts has many teachers as the source in it. Understanding that this is part of everyday life based on a tradition of values , which are timeless like the functionality, simplicity and beauty of all objects accompanied by a strong human and emotional burden, teaching her how to perceive our environment more sensitively and see the world from a different point of view. Therefore, through her paintings she expresses her feelings and thoughts, most of the time, inspired by music, as a representation of a “cloud constructor” of space and sensations that later are transferred, decoded into shapes, colours… leaving all the essence on the canvas. It is wonderful to see how something that comes from your mind creates a new world in others. That is one of the main elements that she wants to reflect, without a spectator and its own capability to see, to feel… the work wouldn’t “exist”.

RICHARD K “After an upbringing on the family farm on the coast of North Cornwall, I left my tractor behind to train in graphic design and illustration at Kingston University in the mid ‘80s. I've since spent thirty years in the creative industry in London, first as an illustrator and graphic designer, and now as a full time artist. Urban life inspires me, seeking to capture the perpetually evolving patterns and rhythms of architecture and people in my work. I paint this ‘dance to the music of time' by combining an observational drawing style with colour, marks, texture and pattern. My goal is to spark a recognition and dialogue with the viewer, asking them to discover in my paintings a visual expression of their own urban lives.”

LONDON S A fter studying printing at Putney School of Art, Ana and Sophie formed their company. They have worked from their own studio in South West London since 2006. Their art has evolved slowly, drawing it's inspiration initially from the extraordinarily diverse urban landscapes of their South London homes. Three years ago Ana and Sophie travelled to Spain in search of more natural material to inspire their work. The dramatic images they brought back took them in a new direction with the Spanish countryside at its heart. Luminaire Arts are pleased to present a selection of screen prints on canvas and on paper. “Tree 1”, a study of a gigantic, solitary pine tree in the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos was a finalist in the UK National Open Art Competition and was then selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. They followed this by taking the Olive Tree as a theme, in particular a unique collection of 1,000 year old trees in the grounds of Banco Santander's headquarters outside Madrid. Most recently they have returned to their home for inspiration, in particular the parks surrounding South West London. Their work has also taken them to include bespoke art for a variety of businesses. Working closely with the client, they create art which captures the essence of the client's business, be it restaurants, universities or office spaces.

The creative process involves experimentation with techniques to imitate and amplify nature. Ariadna creates forms and textures that have a natural aesthetic and quality, reminiscent of organic cells, celestial structures, basic life forms or fossils. Due to the nature of materials and techniques used, the process of making is fluid and alive. The resulting forms and textures are partially chance and partially calculation; the outcome of both ceding the artist's control over the process and being acutely aware of the development of forms and textures. Just like in nature, every resulting element is unique and cannot be repeated. To complete her compositions, Ariadna uses a combination of cut-out and collage techniques. While echoing shapes of the ink elements, the cutouts represent their stark contrast, highlighting disparity between natural and artificial, valuable and hollow, existence and extinction, having and losing.

CLAIRE G I magery inspired by travel to places near and far around the world. A love and interest of urban cities, their layers of gradual decay and the diversity of rural landscapes and dramatically changing skies are the catalyst for much of her work. Journeys are recorded in sketch books, new places visited and remembered. These are the visual tools of her personal search for an essential energy - the Essence captured of her chosen subject Specialising in oil paintings on panel and also tone of unique works on paper using a range of printmaking techniques. A combination of layers of abstracted marks, colour and line are built up and then partially removed or covered over by subsequent over painting or printing to produce subtle yet powerful images. Clare works from her studio in North London. She attained her Masters Degree from Camberwell College of Art. Her art has been commissioned by various organisations including Claridge's, The Hilton Hotel Paris, The Landmark Hotel and The Carlton Towers in Knightsbridge. Recently, artworks have been reproduced for several universities and organisations in Saudi Arabia. Her artwork has been exhibited across the U.K and abroad and is also held in various private, corporate & national collections including Victoria & Albert Museum, BUPA Headquarters, Care International Scotland and The Langham London.

COLIN Colin trained at the Reigate School of Art in Surrey, and now lives on the Sussex coast, soaking up the wonderful light and the beautiful, varied landscape. His work is inspired by the daily observation of his surroundings, combined with memories of past fleeting moments that are both personal and universal - perhaps a glimpse of the sea through woodland, a cloudburst, a howling gale or a cliff-top walk at sunset.‘Weather has fascinated me since childhood. It's the sensation, the feeling of being in the landscape that I aim for - the mysterious, elemental and ever-changing drama of light and shadow, of wind, water and sky transforming a landscape in a blink of an eye. I want to capture the feeling, memory and the essence of a place and time in my work. I'll sometimes complete a piece outside, but I'm happiest making thumbnail pencil sketches on site with colour, wind and light direction notes, then working up the final painting in the studio with memory and imagination engaged. It's an organic process where the original sketch and/or memory is reconceived using layers of paint and scraping back and then more layers and scraping until there is a finished piece'

HENRYJ Henry is a London based artist who has been making his name in the global graffiti scene since 1997 when he first picked up a spray can. Since being a student at London's Central St Martins he has gone on to paint artwork all over the world, including; New York, Barcelona, Prague, Milan, across the UK and most notably Dubai, where he worked as part of a world renowned team of artists who successfully broke the Guinness World Record for the largest graffiti wall ever painted. Over the last 20 years he has taken inspiration from some of his favourite artists including Futura 2000 and Dondi as well as his own artistic surroundings. His more recent abstract expressionism work on canvas brings to light some of his influences from much loved artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Franz Kline, whilst maintaining the strong connection to his original art form.

JENNIFER Jennifer is a mixed media artist whose is influenced by the mapping of the journeys and layering of memories, she has made both living and working in many countries abroad. She philosophically explains: ‘My work is based on the journey of life, its layers and strata. Through time and pressure beauty is created, we mine the soul to find the precious things. Life refines and polishes our history and the choices we have made. Our layers and compartments are filled with experiences and memories.'

Street photography basically means walking the streets/public places in the hope you’ll spot and capture, a little slice of serendipity. It’s one of the hardest, yet most rewarding forms of photography.

ADAM R
he major thrust of my personal work reflects my love of the sea and the coast, whatever country I’m in. When the different textures of sky, earth and water are combined with the organic shapes that wind and tide give us, I’m enthralled and try to capture what I feel as well as what I see. I think that this comes from a larger appreciation of the forces of nature, the incredible energy they have, and my optimism that we might properly harvest that energy in the future. I have secondary and less excavated areas of interest, which include the female form and it’s influence on contemporary product design, and the interaction between man made structures and the environment.

CHARLOTTE
harlotte is an award winning and published photographer who has been a keen enthusiast for nearly ten years. Living close to the City, she is probably best known for her urban images of London. Two of her 'Big Smoke' shots achieved success in Landscape Photographer of the Year 2013. Her image taken of the Thames Barrier set against a backdrop of many iconic structures in and around the City was awarded runner up in Urban Category. A second shot of Westminster Bridge received a Judges Commendation. Although urban photography is Charlotte’s passion, she is equally at home in a dramatic rural environment or along the windswept coast, you could find her there at all times of the day and in the most extreme weather conditions. Charlotte is currently working hard to emulate her success of last year. And concentrating on producing work which has more of a ‘Fine Art’ feel to it...capturing thought provoking and emotive images which depict the nostalgia she feels towards London, especially the east end; the place where she grew up.

MATTHEW J
old, vibrant and contemporary in style, Matthew creates visual and memorable works that speak his mind, explain his thoughts and convey his life experiences. With a background in commercial photography, he uses his skill, experience and methodical work ethic to produce his art, thereby embedding technical elements within the core of his work. As a commercial photographer Matthew has spent his last 10 years being commissioned to create images that say something and sell something. Be it brands/people/products/ideas/services, he has an obvious love for the lens and his art - constantly seeking to push boundaries within the constraints of the brief for advertising, music, editorial and corporate clients. Born and raised on the Norfolk coast, before his call to the capital, Matthew studied in Guildford graduating with First - class Honours in Music from the Academy of Contemporary Music. He now happily resides in the South West corner of London, comfortably close to the Surrey countryside - providing an easy escape from the city. Relaxing is either training hard on his road bike or hiking up mountains, and when possible catching up with his equally busy wife Kirsten. Music remains a central part of his life. Matthew works mainly in London and has a passion for it – as is evidenced in much of his work. However, he has many global clients and relishes the opportunity to travel with his camera, seeing his work published worldwide.

I
MICHAEL S
first started taking photographs on childhood holidays in North Wales and I’ve been absorbed by the medium ever since. My vision and technique have been honed and refined by over 30 years of image making, both commercially and through my own artistic practice. Although traditionally trained (it doesn’t seem that long since I was loading sheet film and splashing around in the darkroom) I now embrace digital technology and the creative possibilities it possesses. My subjects vary in scale and location, but essentially I explore the natural rhythms and patterns of the world around me. This can involve contemplating time and tide at the extremities of the British Isles or examining the intimate detail of delicate still-life in my studio.

MICHELLE
ichelle’s art is work of elegant simplicity which, in itself, is the first of many seductions into an engagement with a complex network of tensions. The work is bedded in the clear space between opposites; the movement captured in stillness; the fragility and ephemerality of nature captured in the strength and permanence of industrial, man made materials; inexorable freedom within the clinically defined limitations of space. Whilst utilising symbols found in nature that have a timeless constancy, the methods and media used are innovative applications of contemporary industrial materials subtly handled, so that even the closest scrutiny give almost no intimation of their origins. This play between the timeless and the immediate is at the heart of Michelle's work. However tranquil the order of the instant may seem it cannot segregate itself from the underlying chaos of nature and it is into this engagement with chaos that we are lured, so unassumingly, by the captivating simplicity of order.

AMADEUS
I
'm a 29 year old kid trying desperately not to grow up. Photography is how I understand the world. More specifically it's how I fail to understand the world utterly and find myself in a state of perpetual awe that can only be found in the space between. I started taking photography seriously in 2015 after 10 years in the music industry and i've never looked back. I have since visited over 30 countries in pursuit of new and fascinating people and places. In 2017 I published a book entitled A Year In London where I photographed the people and areas surrounding every one of London's 430 tube stations.

Ingrid’s photographic expertise lies in action, drama, motion and light. Having gained a BA Hons Degree in Sculpture and Photography her work gradually shifted from 3D to painting with light and form ‘in-camera’. She cut her sailing photographic teeth chasing the 18ft skiff fleet along Sydney harbor in a helicopter in a feisty 26 knot Nor’Easter breeze and has not looked back.

Her lenses have led her to some of the most visually spectacular nautical locations around the world capturing sumptuous vistas, people and places. From Bermuda to Barbados, Miami to Monaco, St Barths to St Tropez there is always plenty to provoke visual dialogue between Ingrid’s eye and the camera shutter. Elegant classic yachts, regal Superyachts and the Grand Prix circuits feature in her twenty year portfolio. Such events have also produced rich source material for her interviews and features for various International publications. When on the ocean a fresh canvas presents itself at the start of each race. With each wind shift, tack, gybe and close mark rounding Ingrid frames compelling images. She is equally at home tracking a fleet with her lenses from a helicopter as on a white-knuckle ride in a chase boat. To freeze the moment, to capture the essence, to feel the fight, the energy of a crew or yacht with the smell of win in the air takes far more than pointing and shooting what lies in front. Years of hard graft, of learning to anticipate a team’s movements, working with the elements no matter how choppy the seas, how good or bad a chase boat is, how strong or light the breeze Ingrid adds to that a flare of artistry.

JON W
ritish photographer Jon’s work documents the growing detachment of modern cultures from the physical landscape, both in the context of spiritual iconography, national identity and ecosystem transition; and through the perspective of vast spans of time and geologic processes. His documentary landscape projects have received many international awards and been featured in magazines and media worldwide. He has exhibited in the US, Europe and Asia.
