Park of Remembrance
The project provided for the expansion of the area of the Baikove cemetery, it was decided to organize a hilly landscape with terraces to create places for burial and infrastructure, in addition, according to Volodymyr Melnychenko, everything in the park should remind a person that life does not end with death, and thanks to such an organization of space it was possible to create a feeling of relief dynamics. The main work for Ada Rybachuk and Volodymyr Melnychenko was the Wall of Remembrance, which stretched from the entrance to the new part of the cemetery and to the farewell hall. The wall was supposed to place a high relief 213 meters long, 4.5 to 16 meters high, work began in 1968. year. The wall symbolizes the transition from being to non-being. According to the authors, the main vocation of their complex was to humanize the cremation process as much as possible, not to turn this place into a factory for the disposal of human bodies. The artists carried out painstaking preparatory work to study the funeral traditions of our people, for which they conducted an ethnographic expedition through Ukrainian villages where the authors explored cemeteries and at the invitation of locals commemorated their ancestors, thus receiving firsthand information about customs. The concept of the memorial park involved car driving prohibition, the bodies of the dead had to be carried on foot from the main entrance to the crematorium on special stretchers, which is dense echoes the tradition of Ukrainian burial. Ada Rybachuk described the ideas of the memory park in a 2005 interview: «We wanted those who came here to feel significant, involved and respected. And that the act of death, devalued in the XX century, gained the dignity of the act of human death. This act of leaving and wanted to play, here. That’s why they built it. ”Unfortunately, this place suffered a tragic fate, after 13 years of dedicated work of artists, in 1982 the wall was filled with concrete at the behest of officials of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR. At that time, the high reliefs were ready, all that remained was to cover them with paint.

The destruction of the wall was forced by Avraam Miletskyi himself, which from the very beginning of design advocated for a purely functional concept of the complex. The architect eventually played an organizational role, while all works and projects were developed by artists, but this did not prevent him in the article for the journal Architecture of the USSR to appropriate authorship, pointing to the inferiority of artists: «If the architect is an artist, it is necessary to have a second and third artist working with him, he can be one in three persons… ». In 1992, the authorities of already independent Ukraine recognized this event as an act of vandalism, but active restoration work was introduced only in 2018 with the opening of a small fragment of the wall.

Institute of Information
The project was developed in the 1960s. The author planned to set up a light music theater in the building, but the management decided to place the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information, founded in 1958, for a long time without a room, as well as the archive of the KGB and the Communist Party of Ukraine. The Congress-hall placed in “saucer” have the unique acoustics, lets you hear the full range of frequencies of human voice and musical instruments. According to the author’s plans, concerts were to take place in the hall. Instead, the library’s cinema room was setted up there. According to Yuriev, the supports of the structure were specially hidden so that it seemed to everyone as if a “saucer” were hanging in the air.The building became a symbol of the activists struggle for the preservation of Soviet modernism in Ukraine.

The building is part of a complex of former Soviet research institutes, a modern institute housed in this building deals with issues of geology and geodesy, advises citizens in this area. The building consists of an eleven-storey tower and a two-storey stylobate. On the east side of the building, on the second floor, there is an extension that rests on the ground with the help of columns with consoles. On the south side of the building in the stilbat there are non-standard round windows. As in most Soviet research institutes, the windows of the tower are quite large for improved insolation of the premises, to remove light during the heat on the facade placed sunflowers. Brass protections of balconies act as decorative elements.

Built by architect Abraham Miletskyi in 1971-1976. A plastic building with many volumes, rounded corners and atypical for Soviet “high-rise” modernism separate (not tape) windows. The tower resembles London brutalism, rather than a typical Soviet design institute. The building is finished with gray stucco, imitating raw concrete, a typical material of brutalism. Currently, the building is partially abandoned, car service and car wash are located on the ground floors, the rest of the building is idle, and the pediment is used as a plane for advertising banners of the surrounding residential complexes, which gradually drown out the dominant building of surrounding area.

The nine-storey building is located in the Solomyansky district among the oldest typical buildings of the 60s. A small square is laid out around the building. A representative of late neomodernism, as evidenced by popular elements in the second half of the 80’s - brown tiles, combining it with white plaster, as well as the use of metal plates to emphasize the windows. The pediment has a complex structure consisting of various rectangular shapes, the windows are horizontal, in the center are growth windows, the porch has a massive attic. There is an abandoned wing on the side of the courtyard. Almost completely original look of the building is spoiled by partial destruction of facing, and neglect of an extension.

Cybernetic Center
First unofficial, and later official name of the group of research institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The Institute of Cybernetics owes its appearance to a scientist with significant leadership and organizational skills, Viktor Mikhailovich Glushkov, whose desire was to make the Institute a competitor to the leading institutions of the time, in particular, IBM. Under his leadership, the Institute of Cybernetics became known not only in the USSR but also abroad. Theoretical and practical developments of the Institute related to computer technology were not inferior to the then foreign counterparts, and sometimes several years ahead of them. The need for a separate complex of facilities for the activities of the institute arose with the rapid growth of the number of researchers.

Ukrainian house
The building was designed as a pretentious complex of the Lenin Museum, the exposition of which was transferred to the funds only 2 years after Ukraine’s independence, in 1993 on April 2 this year a multifunctional exhibition and presentation center “Ukrainian House” was established. During the 2014 revolution, the building became one of the strongholds of Euromaidan activists, who managed to repel the assault on internal troops on the night of January 25-26.The building is made in the style of the state “white stone” modernism, valuable marble and granite were used for cladding, and wood is present in the interiors. Most government buildings at the time were built in a similar style throughout the union, but the former Lenin Museum in Kyiv managed to stand out formally.

Ukravtodor Building
The building is similar to the Ukrdorzvyazok tower, which was designed and built in parallel with this one. The author of the project was invariably Avraam Miletsky, giving the building the character of London brutalism due to the cladding under the concrete (the building itself is brick). Next to the tower there is a separate seven-storey building with a purely modernist extension of a cylindrical shape with growth windows, which is connected to it at the level of the third floor by a covered gallery. The building itself has been tightly braided by wild vines, have been cut down in 2017 during the renovation of the building for more than 40 years, according to representatives of the operating company this was done because of the danger of destroying the facade, which together with parts of the plant could injure pedestrians.

The building is a 19-story tower with panoramic glazing of the first two, horizontal ribbon windows and sunsets (dismantled in November 2017). Until 1991, the tower was owned by the Ministry of Light Industry of the USSR. The tower fits harmoniously into the environment due to the general modernist character of the Sports Square.

Registry office of Dniprovskyi district
The building of the palace of solemn events for the Dnipro district was built in its old part the Social City, built up by Stalin’s and Khrushchev’s age houses. However, thanks to the organic plasticity inherent in the architecture of Eduard Bilskyi, which in a few years will appear in the project of the Vynohradar housing estate, the building does not seem like a stranger in the middle of the older buildings of the district. The building has one floor and connection with the nearest panel high-rise building, has a significant number of volumes, the most evocative is a massive cylindrical ledge with small round windows, located on the north side of the building. The entrance to the building is decorated with a mosaic panel with a rosette in the center.

The authors chose an unusual triangular shape for the building, for which the palace was popularly nicknamed the “Bermuda Triangle”. This form is not accidental: thanks to it, the flow of people in the registry office does not intersect and do not interfere with each other, entrance and exit - in different places, and the rise of the roof to the edges lets more light into the room, which is especially important for the solemn hall. The registry office was designed as a whole complex - with a lobby, wardrobe, kiosks selling flowers and souvenirs. Its important element was the stairs at the exit for the solemn appearance of the newlyweds. Also in front of the registry office was equipped with a parking lot for 100 cars. Today, the free space around the building is being built on all sides, and the masterpiece of modernism risks getting lost among the rising skyscrapers.

TV center
Plans for the construction of the TV center were hatched in the 60’s, it was to be built in the central Pechersk district, but in the 80’s a modern site was chosen for which the building stands. Among the general complex of buildings, the most striking is the 24-storey tower, which is crowned with a pyramidal shape. The TV Center of Ukrainian SSR was equipped according to all the requirements of the Cold War era, in particular, a shelter was built under the building for the operation of television in an unstable environment. It was envisaged that the Kyiv TV center could take on the responsibilities of an all-Union mouthpiece in the event of the destruction or closure of the central TV center in Moscow as a result of an emergency or war. Broadcasting to the countries of the socialist camp was also envisaged.

Campus of Shevchenko University
According to the initial design, the giant complex of buildings of Shevchenko University was to extend from the Vasylkivska street up to Teremky district. The need to build a new campus arose due to the depletion of the resource of the main complex of buildings in the city center, construction began in the 50’s with the construction of dormitories to which in the 60’s the first administrators were added. buildings, but bright representatives of modernism appeared here only in the 70’s - 80’s. In general, the style can be described as brutalism, however, marble acts as a cladding material, there are high-reliefs of thematic nature in accordance with the specialization of the building. Despite the stylistic integrity of the ensemble, the progress of the architecture of Soviet modernism can be clearly seen on the example of this campus.

Kyiv Polytechnic Institute
Unlike the University. Shevchenko, the Polytechnic Institute was built from the very beginning on the outskirts of the city with prospects for further growth, which inevitably happened in the 60-80s. The first example of modernism was the building of the Faculty of Heat and Power Engineering, built in 1969. In the 1970s, buildings were built with characteristic massive forms of lecture halls overhanging the entrance groups of buildings. The 70’s and 80’s were built under the direction of KPI Chief Architect Volodymyr Likhovodov, when the largest number of campus buildings was laid and erected, including an important attraction - the Area of Knowledge, formed by a single architectural ensemble of the library, building 7, palace culture and dining.Since the 2000s, the administration has been illegally selling KPI land for housing under the guise of providing housing for researchers and students, which is fundamentally destroying plans for further campus development, a plan developed by Likhovodov in the late 1980s. This topic was first raised by architectural researcher Semyon Shirochin during a lecture at KPI in 2019.

Subway station Dnipro
The first ground station of Kyiv subway with coastal type platforms located near the steep slope of the Dnipro. It is a trestle that flows into the Metro Bridge, combined with an arched road transport bridge. From the landing platforms of the cities are visually and functionally separated by vertical volumes of glass and concrete, which contain stairs for passengers. Constructive descent pylons are pedestals for two monumental structures - “Work” (“XX century”) in in the form of a worker (sculptor E. Kuntsevich, B. Karlovsky) and “Peace” in the form of a woman with pigeons (sculptors F. Kotsyubinsky, K. Kuznetsov, I. Gorovyi). There are stairs in the pylons that were used in the 1960s to exit the station.

Subway station Hydropark
8th station of the Kyiv metro. Located on the on the Venetian island. Simplicity of architectural form, color and design of the station - all this helps the perception of it as the park architecture. Hydropark is a favorite vacation spot in Kyiv. After all, in just a few minutes you can get from the city center to the gentle sandy banks of the Dnipro and its bays. Initially, the station was built with only one (western) exit. Due to the high passenger flow in the summer of 1973, a right platform was built on the first track, which was used for disembarking passengers until 1987. The second (eastern) exit was built without traffic closure and opened on December 30, 1987, used only in summer.

Subway station Chernihivska
The project name of the station is DShK. Opened on October 4, 1968 under the name “Komsomols’ka” (it existed under this name until February 2, 1993), which was replaced by the name “Chernihivska” because it is possible to get off the platform of the station to Brovarsky Prospekt, which crosses the Chernihiv highway. The ground station continues a series of previous model stations. The landing platform is located under the overpass. Pedestrian crossings lead to two ground-level lobbies from the overpass, which simultaneously serve as the roof of the platform section. On November 21, 1974, due to the high passenger flow at the station, an additional side platform was opened for disembarking passengers, which was used until the line was prolonged to the Lisova station.

2nd entrance of Khreshatyk Subway station
Dome ground lobby with access to Institutska Street and to the Alley of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. Built second only to the Khreshchatyk street, but to the lobby built into the house on the Horodetskoho street, despite this, it should be noted that the navigation marking for passengers is the third number. The building is a pavilion with its own lobby, ticket offices, and the service spaces of subway. The building has all the features of early Kyiv modernism - transparency due to the significant amount of glazing, tiling, the use of neon for signs of his time. Ground lobbies are mostly typical only for the early stations of the Kyiv subway.

In 1965, the first block of the Komsomolsky (now Pivnichno-Brovarsky) experimental housing estate was built on the left bank of Kyiv, planned as a testing ground for new models of typical housing and public facilities, but most of them remained unique due to higher costs. analogues. Unusual planning of the district, in addition to the lack of wide internal highways with active traffic, provided for the construction of a school campus in the center of the block. The district has a significant number of mosaics and other works of monumental art, placed directly on the facades of buildings. Among the purely typical houses there are interesting solutions for facade cladding and atypical public buildings.

The 12-storey building of the 1-464A-52/12 series, built in 1976 in the shape of a crescent, forms a conditional quarter where junior educational institutions are located. This project failed and did not go into series due to the trapezoidal shape of the apartments, problems with access to sunlight in some apartments. Currently, the building is in relatively satisfactory condition. An interesting formal solution is the removal of stairwells outside the main shape of the house, as well as their asymmetrical placement in different halves of the building.

Vynohradar Residential Estate
The modern construction of Vynohradar dates back to the 9th Five-Year Plan period, which began in 1971. The realization of the idea began in 1974, partly on vacant lands, partly on the gardens of the inhabitants and on the lands of the state farm “Pushcha-Vodytsya”, which were under fruit and berry plants. The building area was divided into three neighborhoods and neighborhoods with a network of footpaths and boulevards. The center was supposed to create a “Guest House”, public, cultural and commercial centers. A water sports complex was envisaged on Blue Lake, the design of which was quite atypical for the residential areas of that time. The array was built up with 9-, 12- and 16-storey buildings, and in 1975 the first inhabitants came here.

Houses on Antonovycha st.
The complex of multi-stage stylistically similar houses built along Antonovycha street in the center of Kyiv is only a fragment of a project to overhaul the district. The project provided for the construction of a huge department store in the area of the modern Volodymyrskyi grocery market, many public spaces, and was to cover a much larger area. The buildings have an unusual design and decoration of facades, rich in various volumes. The houses are built of brick and lined with brown tiles. Unfortunately, due to the poor quality of the cladding works, this tile is gradually collapsing, damaging the appearance of the building and threatening to injure passers-by and residents.

Residential Towers «Camomiles»
Two residential towers were erected in the Obolon district using the uncommon technology of interchangeable formwork, which consists in the gradual expansion of the building using a monolithic frame and reinforced concrete panels. The first 17-storey building was built in 1980 under the direction of M. Budilovsky, the second, 22-storey, already in 1990 according to the project of V. Ladnyi. The first house has the shape of a cylindrical tower with semicircular balconies. Stylobate surrounded by columns-supports. The apartments are located on 15 floors. The two lower floors occupy technical rooms. The second tower is also made in the form of a cylinder, but in contrast to the first with simplified forms. The distribution of rooms is similar to the first tower, the house has semicircular balconies and double glazed windows.

Residential House on Verkhnia st
The 18-storey nomenclature tower is built on a picturesque hill next to the historic Zvirynets cemetery. Due to the peculiarities of placement on the slope, the entrances to the house are located on the third floor. The house is stylistically similar to its late Soviet peers on the street. Antonovych and on the embankment of Bereznyaki district. Houses with facades and construction of this type represent the unique Kyiv style of the late 80’s, no similar project was found in the former USSR. The main features of houses in this direction are the presence of a significant number of rectangular volumes, tiling facades in the gradation from light olive to dark brown.

The neighborhood is also known as “houses in the form of bee hives”, consists of two huge complexes of interconnected houses at different addresses and floor variations from 12 to 21. From a bird’s eye view, the shape of houses resembles bee hives, these forms are also played in supporting walls of playgrounds in the yards. In addition to the actual residential buildings, the neighborhood has public buildings homes, schools, kindergartens. Facades of residential buildings have characteristics similar to the KT series. The color scheme of the area consists of shades of brown, crimson and light olive. The length of the house on the Akademika Zabolotnoho street, in the sweep, is about 2 km, which makes it one of the longest residential buildings in the world.

Educational Library Building of NTU
In the 1980s, the then Kyiv Automobile Institute (KADI) faced the problem of lack of space for the educational and scientific process, while the institute had only the building of the former gymnasium in the Pechersk district of Kyiv. Thanks to the construction of a new building in Vydubychi, this problem was solved, new laboratories appeared, auditoriums and departments. The building consists of a large number of volumes, the overall composition is dominated by a massive curved nine-story shape. The facade of the building is lined with light ocher tiles, the windows have metal sunbreakers. At the level of the second floor there are three massive trapezoidal protrusions overhanging the street, above the entrance to the building the main volume is interrupted and turning into solid glazing.

Republican Children’s Library
The main children’s library of the former USSR was located in a cozy part of the then new district of Nyvka, but away from all modes of transport and other urban infrastructure, despite the fact that the team working on the project tried to choose a location in the city center. The walls of the building are lined with bricks with a clear emphasis on the connecting seams, which gives them a wealth of texture with their general asceticism. The roof structure contains windows designed to create natural light in the library. The entrance to the building is decorated with a metal structure with portraits of worldwide, Ukrainian and Soviet prominent writers.

Polyclinic of the Writers union
The building was erected in the middle of the historic quarter in the heart of the Upper Town, which is quite a bold and successful experiment, despite the massive forms of the building, it is quite compact, and mostly brick walls level the obvious stylistic difference with the surrounding houses. In Soviet times, the building housed a polyclinic, where only members of the Writers’ Union of the Ukrainian SSR could receive treatment. So far, the clinic has kept only the gynecological department, accessible to all citizens, the cylindrical building in the yard has been given for coworking. The building of the polyclinic has retained its original appearance, except for the extension in the courtyard, which was radically changed, due to which its stylistic connection with the main building was lost.

Balneology hospital
The Balneology hospital is a complex of health and medical facilities based on the use of therapeutic mud, massage, saunas, etc. The building is located next to the modernist Komsomolskyi district, but is located on the other side of Brovarsky Avenue and the subway, which, despite its stylistic proximity to some buildings of the ensemble, does not make it part. The building consists of a high-rise 11-storey part, a swimming pool with an interesting roof solution, and the main part with a variable number of storeys from 1 to 3. The facades are tiled in ocher and red tones, the windows are framed with brass. The building has managed to retain its original appearance, but the condition of the facades on the courtyard leaves much to be desired.

Rye Market
The oldest market in Kyiv is located in Zhytnyotorz’ka ( rye-trading ) Square in the historic area of Podil. It dates back to the times of Kyivan Rus. The Hlybochytsa River divided the Rye Market Square into two parts. In the 15th century, the Rye Market was the main shopping center of the city. Twice a year there was a fair. It remained one of the main shopping centers, which was largely due to its proximity to the Dnipro and the harbor. In 1980, the Rye Covered Market building was opened. After the reconstruction, the market became the largest in Europe: in 1950 it was equipped with 1950 retail outlets (600 of them - on open trading floors). The facade of the building is decorated with embossed metal panels with scenes from the history of Kyivan Rus.

House of Furniture
One of the famous Soviet department stores with a concave roof, the main part of the house was occupied by the central hall. On the ground floor there is a trade area with cash registers, a service office, a cinema hall for 50 seats, and administrative premises. The premises on the second floor were equipped with modules-models of apartments with samples of furniture compositions. Ramp and stairs led to the floor. Engeeneers Yuri Rebrov, Leonid Dmitriev and Vadim Gordeev developed a special design for the house. The developers proposed to put a coating of metal membranes on the sagging cables attached to the supports. Insulation and insulation boards, as well as galvanized sheets are placed on them. With the help of new technology it was possible to cover the space of the store, with an area of 16,270 square meters.

The pool building was built in the Voskresenko area, built mostly of five-storey typical Khrushchev houses, which formed a noticeable dominant that crowned the park nearby. The building is a bright representative of brutalism, it is manifested in the massiveness and asceticism of forms, and the use of pure concrete for cladding, although the structural foundation is made of bricks, showing exposed with age areas of deposition of the cladding. The most notable elements of the building are a cylindrical tower, decorated with protruding elements in the circle between which are narrow narrow vertical windows, as well as 10 bay windows with one window in each, placed on the pediment. Currently, the building is abandoned and is in danger of demolition.

Hippodrome of Kyiv
The territory of the racetrack is located opposite the ice stadium, next to the territory of the National Expocenter of Ukraine and the Teremka housing estate, covers an area of 45 hectares. The racetrack hosts weekly competitions and trainings every day. The Kyiv Hippodrome is one of the last racetracks in Ukraine, thanks to the existence of which the trotting industry has been preserved and developed in Ukraine. 9 capital stables were built at the Kyiv Hippodrome, with 40 stalls each. Each stable has a harness, as well as rooms for storing special equipment. Erected on the outskirts of the city to replace the old neo-Renaissance racetrack built in 1916, the field of which was built up, and the building is preserved to this day. The new racetrack is a shining example of modernism of the 60’s.

Lower station of Funicular
This version of the architectural solution of the lower lobby is the final of the number of other alterations and destructions. In addition to the station itself, the entire system of this unique engineering facility was overhauled in 1984. The lower lobby is a pavilion with glass inserts, the chief architect Janos Vig spoke in detail about the features and solutions of the reconstruction project: “... We tried to fit the lower station harmoniously into the ensemble of the Post Square. It was to become part of the symbol of the “river gate” of the capital. Complex thin-walled reinforced concrete structures were used as floors. Stepped vaults, repeating the relief of Vladimir Hill, expand like a telescope. Stained-glass windows are arranged in the gaps between them ... ”

Northern bridge
The bridge over the Dnipro and Desenko rivers in the north of Kyiv, with a cable-stayed section of more than 300 m. The main pylon of the bridge is made in the shape of the cyrillic letter “Л”, previously it contained a huge copper Soviet coat of arms of the city, designed with participation of Florian Yuriev, unfortunately due to decommunization it was dismantled in 2015. However, in parallel with this bridge, its project name “Northern” was returned instead of the one imposed by the party leadership “Moscow”. The architectural design of the bridge was developed by Anatoly Dobrovolsky absolutely free of charge. moment taught at an art school. Dobrovolsky himself offered to fill the vacant position of chief architect at that time.

The 22-storey tower of the four-star Kyiv Hotel is located in front of the Mariinsky Park. The administrative building with a fire and corner tower was built earlier in 1887 (architect Vladimir Nikolaev). In 1968, after its demolition, construction of the hotel began. In 1973, it was the second tallest building in Ukraine after the Khreschatyk 25 apartment building and the first building in Ukraine with more than 20 floors. The hotel overlooks the Mariinsky Park, the Dnipro river, as well as the city center. The balconies of the rooms are placed parallel to the facade, while the windows behind them are placed at an angle. Due to its proximity to the government quarter, the hotel has been in demand among politicians since Soviet times and to this day.

“Tourist” hotel
At one time it was one of the tallest skyscrapers in Kyiv. At first it was planned that the hotel would be built before the 1980 Olympics, which was to take place in Moscow. But since 1980, construction has been moving very slowly. In the mid-1980s, construction accelerated, and in 1987 the hotel was built. The constructed «Tourist» impressed Kyiv with its height. The 93-meter skyscraper was the second tallest in Kyiv (after the House of Commerce) and the highest in number of floors. The hotel was supposed to be a part of an ambitious project of the Left Bank Public Center, which provided for the removal of much of the business life of the capital of the USSR on the left bank in a specially equipped complex, thus creating a significant point of attraction on this side of the Dnipro river.

Hotel «Salute»
In the 1970s, a team of architects working on Salute developed its modern form: a circular tower that hangs over the Glory Square. But the hotel was twice higher than the realized option. Already in the final design, it was reduced in height from 18 floors to 8 so that the building does not compete with the Lavra bell tower on the horizon of Kyiv hills. Now it is clear that the attempt to inscribe “Salute” in height has become futile: now the hundred-meter bell tower anyway crippled by massive pechersk skyscrapers. The salute is made in two volumes - a tubular case with numbers overhanging the area of Glory Square, surrounded by balconies and completed by a small superstructure, and a stylobate extending towards the Dnipro river.

Hotel «Express»
Express is a typical railway hotel, similar to hotel train complexes in other cities. The building closes the perspective of Simon Petliura Street, at the other end of which is the Central Railway Station. The complex consists of two parts: the hotel and the cash desks. The fifteen-story hotel echoes with the constructivist design of the train station. Round openings and white screens of balconies against the background of dark walls refer to constructivism. The facade is also made of atypical brown tones that are typical of modernism. Instead, the railway ticket offices located in the hotel’s stylobath have features of Soviet modernism. White building has large glass planes, volume differences and marble interior

House of the cinema
A new building for the Republican Cinema House was erected in Pecherskyi district, right in the heart of the city, but the bold modernist façade was quite delicately placed in the middle of the existing historic quarter. Above the entrance to the building are decorative panels depicting key historical events of the All-Union scale. Like the January riots of the Bolsheviks in Kyiv, which took place in 1918, their epicenter was the Arsenal plant, which is depicted on the panel. In addition to purely propaganda stories, there are also politically neutral images of space rocket launches, as well as cinematographic cameras. In general, the building has a dark glass facade with the presence of sunbreakers, as well as an interesting solution of the gateway.

Palace «Ukraine»
It is designed primarily as a venue for congresses of the Communist Party of Ukraine (like the Palace of Congresses in the Kremlin), and secondly as a concert hall. It was inaugurated on April 17, 1970 to mark the 100th anniversary of Lenin’s birth. In 1996 it was included in the list of architectural monuments of Ukraine. Formally it is a massive monolithic form containing an inward bend along the entire line of the facade, where vertical strip windows are placed, underlined by the cascade of sunbreakers, below the numerous entrances hangs a flat form that smoothly transitions into a small hall of the concert complex. The quality of architecture and interior design made by the architect Irma Karakis was even higher than similar projects in Moscow, where under conditions of strict centralization there were wider financial and stylistic opportunities than in Kyiv.
