Ivesia provides QA for a dynamic Newsroom operations solution
THE CUSTOMER DNAinfo is a digital news service covering stories vital to Manhattan's local communities. DNAinfo combines original content with the best aggregation to bring its audience all the news from the neighborhoods. DNAinfo is also looking at publishing top-notch freelance writers and bloggers who are fully immersed in communities, and will deliver all of this across web and mobile platforms.
BUSINESS OVERVIEW Technology plays a critical role in DNAinfo's newsroom operations, from story assignment through publishing and archiving. This is done through their home grown CMS with built-in SEO support, which has a future-proof architecture that allows DNAinfo's news staff to change the underlying CMS tagging classifications, redesign the front-end news portal, and expand into new cities. It also includes built-in support for online video publishing service like YouTube, cloud storage of all newsroom assets and integrated subscription management. It supports social bookmarking and subscription to its RSS feeds as well. DNAinfo by virtue of being a digital news service needs to update and change information in a very dynamic manner. It is imperative for them to ensure the quality of their systems, both their CMS and the external web site.
BUSINESS NEED In order to sustain their position and to make DNAinfo, the “newsroom of the future”, they keep enhancing the features regularly both at the CMS level and at the presentation level. They wanted to ensure the quality of these functional changes and the presentation layer changes and their specific needs were: Verify and validate the functional changes on the CMS Verify and validate the presentation changes on the external website Regression testing for every release - two releases per week In essence, DNAinfo wanted reduction in the number of bugs introduced in the release and thereby increasing the site’s reliability and functionality while ensuring faster releases.
Why Ivesia? Ivesia was engaged with the customer earlier for a time bound project of 6 to 8 weeks. This gave DNAinfo a fair idea about Ivesia's capabilities and this worked in favor of Ivesia getting into a partnership with DNAinfo. Features QA partnership with Ivesia provides longer work cycles for DNAinfo, increasing their throughput effectiveness - Ivesia does QA during DNAinfo's night hours, which gets fixed during their day hours. Currently DNAinfo is providing the test scenarios and it is going to evolve into a collaborative activity, a few months into the relationship when Ivesia would be doing the test scenarios as well. Regression testing, in line with the release cycles of DNAinfo, which is twice a week.
