CUSTOMER OVERVIEW Ivesia partnered with a healthcare service provider with hundreds of physicians, specialists and other providers working together towards meeting the healthcare needs of patients in northern New England. Our customer provides care in almost every area of medicine. Serving as one of the oldest facilities in the New England region, our customer has been meeting the healthcare needs of patients for over two centuries.
BUSINESS OVERVIEW Our customer had a notes application used by physicians, specialists and other providers towards recording and tracking patient information. The information included patient condition, treatment offered, medication prescribed, progress, discharge summary, and more. with physician sign-off. The signed document becomes a legal medical record. This legal medical record gets communicated to various persons that include regular care physicians, primary care physicians, patients, labs and outside doctors. The flow of the notes application is:

Postal Mail
Tasking is the communication form that is preferred by providers inside the healthcare facility. Providers from outside the facility prefer communication in the form of emails, fax or postal mail. A notes application has pre-defined set of rules that allows it to choose alternate forms of communication when the preferred form of communication fails. For instance, if the email gets bounced, then it sends out a fax to the number specified or sends out the record as a postal mail as per the set preferences.
BUSINESS NEED Our customer wanted this notes application to be tested extensively as this is a very important piece in patient care procedure. The customer's needs included: l
A test plan to be created based on the specifications document, use cases and application screens;

Identification of test automation tool and automation testing of the regression suite;

Bug reporting in a common tool with access to the customer;
l
Re-running the test on bug-fixed functionalities and running the regression using automation suite;
l
Maintenance of automation scripts taking into account the bug fixes, specification changes and screen changes.

IVESIA'S ROLE Ivesia was involved in the following activities: 1.
Creation of the test case document based on use cases, specification documents, and screens provided by the customer
2.
Identified Test Complete as the appropriate automation tool and created test scripts for automating the regression testing of notes application
3.
Developed test scripts using VB Script for a large number of test cases. If run manually, one run of regression testing would have taken weeks
4.
Logged bugs in the bug tracking tool called OneBundle
5.
Re-tested the fixed functionality as well as ran the regression suite
6.
Maintained test scripts as per changed functionality in the application
OUTCOMES It was a successful, long-term engagement with the customer. Testing of the regression suite, which would have taken almost a week if done manually, was completed in eight hours through automation using Test Complete. Moreover, this automation was carried out overnight, allowing for 24x7 work cycles towards ensuring quality of the notes application. Subsequent to this, the customer moved towards an enterprise-grade Electronic Health Records (EHR) system, which did not have the communication functionality as described in the tools application. Our understanding of this system allowed us to work with the enterprise vendor and extended their EHR with communication functionality.
