ROVINJ

Poreč prides on a whole group of historic monuments out of which the Euphrasian Basilica is the most valuable one, which is why it was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. It was named after the Bishop Euphrasius, who lived in the 6 century. Tourists can climb its bell tower and enjoy a spectacular view of the city. Other important monuments include the Gothic House from 1473, the Istrian Assembly Hall, the House of Two Saints, the Round Tower and the Pentagonal Tower, the Northern Tower, the Zuccato Palace...

Rovinj is a fishing port and one of the most popular tourist resorts. The St Euphemia’s Basilica, baroque church built in 1736, dominates the town. The bell tower of the church with a statue of the patron saint is over 61m high. Rovinj area is of outstanding natural beauty, with magical coastline with pine trees. There are numerous restaurants with great local food and shops where you can buy hand-made souvenirs.

BRIJUNI NATIONAL PARK Brijuni National Park is located southwest of the Istrian peninsula. It is a group of 14 small islands. In the past it was a summer Residence of Josip Broz Tito. There are remains of two Roman villas from the 1st century BC, the Benedictine Monastery from 9th century, St Mary’s Basilica from the 6th century... One of the attractions is over 200 footprints of the dinosaurs that have been discovered at four sites.

Pula is the largest city and administrative centre of the Istrian Region. The city was founded 3000 years ago on the Kaštel Hill inhabited by Histri (Illyrian tribe). The most attractive monuments are the Arena - Amphitheater (one of the six largest Roman arenas in the world), the Arch of the Sergii – Golden Gate and the Temple of Augustus. The Pula Aquarium is the biggest one in Croatia situated in the fortress Verudela.

City of Opatija is an ideal place for numerous activities. On one side there is the seaside and on the other is Učka Mountain. Opatija is a well-known wellness destination. There is a beautiful promenade ideal for long walks and the city also has wonderful beaches and parks. If you’re into fine dining and culture, you’ll find perfect spots for that as well. Make sure to visit Villa Angiolina, St Jacob’s Church, Slatina Fountain and the Croatian Walk of Fame.

Rijeka is the third largest city in Croatia and the administrative and cultural center of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. There is a lot of things to do and see, but make sure to put on “to do’’ list: coffee at Korzo, St Vitus Cathedral, Church of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Capuchin Monastery, climb to Trsat, explore The Rijeka Tunnel, Astronomical Centre Rijeka, city market, visit the Ivan Kobler Square and the Natural History Museum Rijeka.

Krk is the biggest island in Croatia. Here you will find thousand years old towns and secluded little villages, equipped beaches but also small coves. Recommended sites to visit are Krk City where you can see the Frankopan Fortress from the 12th century, the old Town Council Hall from the 15th century and the sacral complex of the Cathedral, Biserujka Cave close to the Rudine village, the picturesque islet of Košljun, Monastery and the Church of St Lucia in Jurandvor, Baška, Omišalj and Vrbnik.

Cres is a well-known Croatian ecotourism destination. It is a place where you can enjoy beautiful beaches like Valun, Lubenice – Sv Ivan, Meli, Beli, Mali Bok. There are plenty coves for you to explore and also scenic spots with breathtaking views of the Vrana Lake. On Cres you can enjoy visiting ancient cities and buildings remains, early Roman Catholic churches and chapels, but also Glagolitic engravings in stone, Venetian heritage buildings...

As its slogan says Rab is a happy island, and you will be as well when you see you can choose from 30 sandy beaches and a lot of tiny, picturesque coves. Tourists have been coming here for almost 125 years. They are attracted to its crystal clear, warm, and shallow sea. There are over 300 restaurants in which families can enjoy a meal together. Panorama of the city of Rab is adorned by bell towers of four churches.

Even though its name means big Lošinj, it is a small village on the island of Lošinj. Visit the Church of St Anthony the Hermit from 1774. There are numerous narrow alleys throughout Lošinj. Enjoy beautiful flora of the island: Mediterranean plants, palms and rich flowers. Take a peek at gardens of luxurious villas. If you have problems with allergies, skin or lung diseases, the climate of Veli Lošinj is perfect for you.

here are many quality products to buy as a souvenir for food and wine lovers. Different parts of Croatia offer different types of cheeses, olive oils, wines, liquors. If you visit several places in Croatia choose several bottles of extra virgin olive oil, each from different regions especially Istria and Dalmatia. In Istria you can find delicious truffle products. For example, cheese lovers will be delighted if you bring them truffle cheese. Pair it with top notch prosciutto. Croatia has numerous wineries where you can taste and buy wine. Try different sorts of Istrian and Pelješac wine, as well as other kinds, during your trip. Take home to your friends and family the ones you like the best. In Zadar buy an extra bottle of Marascino made from Marasca cherries to give as a gift to a friend who loves sweet alcoholic drinks. A great drink to buy is famous rakija, there are numerous kinds to get all across Croatia. In Istria buy Medica, rakija made from honey, in Dalmatia try Travarica, made from different kinds of plants. For somebody who loves amazing detailed handcrafts, a perfect souvenir will be beautiful products from Pag lace. Croatian lacemaking was inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

If you’re looking for wild nature, long beaches but also great party spots, Pag is an ideal destination for you. Zrće is the most famous party beach with great bars and clubs. You can also try different kinds of activities such as windsurfing, diving and cycling. One of the nicest symbols of the island is Pag lace. Foodies will get addicted to Pag cheese, which is made exclusively from the milk of the indigenous pramenka sheep.

Zadar is the centre of northern Dalmatia. The most interesting city monuments are the Church of St Donatus, the town’s symbol, the Church of St Anastasia and Forum. Two main attractions are the Sea Organ (waves pushed by the sea producing sound through the stone stairs) and The Greeting to the Sun (urban installation that consists of multilayered glass plates under which are photo-voltage solar modules).

Long long time ago Biograd na Moru was a town where Croatian kings were crowned and today it is a very popular and recognizable tourist destination. It is surrounded by a promenade and modern marinas making this place a perfect nautical destination. Its location in the center of Adriatic make it a perfect starting point for visiting national parks or parks of nature: the waterfalls of the river Krka, Paklenica and Plitvice Lakes or Vrana Lake.

Adriatic coast is full of extraordinary historical sights, natural treasures and impressive scenery. Here are some of the treasures you should not miss during sailing in Croatia.

ISLAND OF DUGI OTOK The northernmost place on the island of Dugi Otok is Veli Rat, which dates from Roman times. The most interesting sacred site here is the parish Church of St Anthony. Take a dip on the sandy beach Sakarun, southeast of Veli Rat. It is one of the most impressive beaches on the Adriatic. In Veli Rat you will also find a magnificent lighthouse Punta Bjanca, it’s famous for being the biggest lantern in the Adriatic (42 m high).

KRKA NATIONAL PARK

Vodice is an ideal holiday destination located in a beautiful bay near two national parks, surrounded by islands and long beaches. The historic town of Šibenik lays in central Dalmatia, at the spot where the river Krka flows into the Adriatic Sea. The main city monument, the Cathedral of St James is not to be missed out on. It was built in Gothic and Renaissance style between 1431 and 1536 by several architects. Visit the city’s four fortresses: St Nicholas’ Fortress, St Michael’s Fortress, Barone Fortress and St John’s Fortress.

About 15 kilometres from Šibenik you will find a small town Skradin. The location of the town at the entrance to the Krka National Park makes it one of the most important nautical destinations in the Adriatic. An authentic stone town core is an alluring place for visitors. Several sights worth visiting are the parish Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, rectory, the orthodox Church of St Spyridon and Turina Fortress.

Krka National Park is located in ŠibenikKnin County. Visitors are astonished by the beauty of numerous waterfalls, unspoiled nature but also archaeological remains. Most popular attractions are clear water pool with high waterfalls Skradinski Buk, Roški Slap and the island of Visovac with a Roman Catholic monastery. Spread all over the park are 14 th century ruins of Medieval fortresses.

Hvar is one of the most lively summer destination. It is respected for its nature, rich historical heritage and culture, and loved for the fun atmosphere and adventure. The port in Hvar Town is packed with impressive luxury yachts and there are parties lasting all night long. Make sure to also visit Pakleni Islands, a beautiful archipelago that has nudist-swimming areas, great restaurants and a nautical marina in Palmižana.

A 60 kilometars long Riviera is part of the coast below imposing mountain Biokovo. People come here for a warm sunny climate and famous hectic pebbly beaches. There are several places worth visiting on the stretch from the border with Omiš coast on northwest to the Neretva river delta on the southeast. Makarska is the center of Riviera with lots of bars, restaurants and fun activities.

Biokovo is the second-highest mountain range in Croatia. Not only does Biokovo Nature Park have gorgeous landscapes but it’s also rich with diverse animal life and fascinating geomorphological forms and phenomena. Here you can find almost 1500 plant species, numerous endemic and relict. Additionally, all kinds of animals, numerous reptiles and birds live here, as well as around thirty mammal species. Visit the tourist attraction of the park - Skywalk Biokovo.

Because of its protruding location on the open sea, Vis was used as a military base for the Yugo slav army and the tourism here developed quite late. This gives it an unspoiled charm and privacy. Two largest and most important urban centers are Komiža and Vis harbour. There is a long tradition of fishing and winegrowing on the island. In numerous restaurants and cellars you can taste the most famous authentic white wine – Vis Vugava.

If you visit SE part of the island of Dugi Otok you will be overwhelmed by Telašćica’s preserved unique nature. Why? There are three main reasons: first one is the bay of Telašćica – the safest, most fascinating and the largest natural port with 25 small beaches, second is “stene” – cliffs of the island of Dugi Otok that rise up to 161 m above the sea and fall vertically up to 90 m below the sea level, and third reason is “Mir”, a salt lake which has curative powers.

West of city of Šibenik you can enjoy unparalleled nature – an archipelago of 89 islands – Kornati. Lots of nautical visitors fell in love with it due to its charming, interesting landscape. Anchoring is permitted within the park, in twenty bays. When the night falls you will be dazzled by thousands of stars that cover the sky. An unforgettable experience and places worth visiting are also Tureta Fort and the Church of Our Lady of Tarac.

Trogir is situated 27 km away from the city of Split. It lays on a small island between the coast and the island of Čiovo. Its special historic centre is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Visit the city’s most important sights: the Cathedral of St Lawrence and its main entrance Radovan’s Portal, the Monastery of St Nicolas and the Collection of Art Kairos, Trogir City Museum and Kamerlengo Castle. Trogir is a popular travel destination and has several hotels and lots of private apartments, interesting cafes and restaurants.

Most impressive attraction of this 1700 year old city is the Diocletian’s Palace, built in 305 by Roman Emperor Diocletian. It is on UNESCO World Heritage List. Other interesting city attractions are the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, Vestibul, Perystile and the Temple of Jupiter. The city offers numerous galleries, museums and theatres. It is a popular destination for young people for its numerous festivals and parties.

On the mouth of Cetina river lays the city of Omiš. For a dose of history take a look at eight churches from the 10th to the 18th century that can be found in Omiš and be sure to visit Romanesque Mirabela Fortress from 13th century which was used as a hideout for Omiš pirates, who used to attack ships in the Adriatic. Today, pirates’ battles are performed for visitors. Omiš is a well-known active and adventure holiday destination.

The island of Šolta is located near Split and very well connected to it. Here you can swim in perfect clear sea, sunbathe on pebbly beaches and if you’re up for some activities, you can learn more about making olive oil, wine and honey on family farms. At the same time taste the wonderful products and feel stress leaving your body. Nature lovers are drawn to this island by a diversity of flora and fauna and there is also a rich underwater world.

Oldest town on the coast of Brač is Bol. There are not many people who haven’t heard about one of the most beautiful beaches in the world – Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn). Its famous shape is determined by the playful game of sea and wind. The golden sandy peak is one moment on the one side and the other on the opposite one. Take a stroll beneath shadowy pine trees.

Blue Cave is located on Croatian island Biševo, small island near Vis. There is a small entrance for boats and in the cave ceiling there is a small hole through which natural light enters, it’s an impressive sight. Sea reflection and sunlight create a blue sparkle all around the cave, a truly magical sight. Make sure to be there before noon because the phenomenon is seen best during the morning.

Korčula, the sixth largest Croatian island is most famous for its dense forests. With its timeless beauty Korčula Town is a special place to see. It has medieval squares, palaces and churches. Make sure to also see Vela Luka and Lumbarda but smaller towns and villages as well. Explore its vineyards and olive groves spread all around the island, it will give you unique experience.

LASTOVO ISLANDS NATURE PARK

A small town of Primošten is situated 27 km from Šibenik. Old town is located on the small, hilly peninsula. Mediterranean atmosphere is felt throughout the town, on the narrow streets with stone houses and churches. You will be attracted to buy nice souvenirs in small shops and souvenir places. You can also find entertainment and sport activities. The most popular discotheque is Aurora and the most beautiful beaches are Velika Raduča and Mala Raduča.

Jewel of the southern Adriatic Lastovo has 46 small islands and bays that adorn the sea like dissipated pearls. Untouched nature is well preserved thanks to its distance from the mainland. Many think that Lastovo is one of the few remains of the real Mediterranean, the one that inspired Homer and thrilled Byron.

Mljet, a fascinating natural paradise is famous for being the greenest Croatian island. It’s hard to determine what will impress you more – clear sea, forests, lakes, vineyards or olive orchards. If you pair all of that with rich cultural heritage, you get a perfect destination. Recognisable and most visited site is the Small Lake with the Islet of St Mary with Benedictine Monastery from the 12th century.

Ston is a unique little medieval town on the peninsula Pelješac, which has the second longest stone defensive city wall in the world in total length of 5.5 kilometers. The ancient cultures can be felt throughout the narrow peaceful streets and noble old houses. Here you can find the oldest active saltworks in the world, which have been producing salt in an unchanged traditional way since the remote times. The oysters from Ston are a natural aphrodisiac.

Dubrovnik is the most famous Croatian destination, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take a walk on the medieval walls 2 km long that hug the city, and explore wonderful fortresses. The whole city is a living monument full of beautiful palaces and churches. Be here for Dubrovnik Summer Festival, a 45-day long cultural event with lots of concerts, live plays and performances. Dubrovnik Cable Car, which connects the city with the Srđ Hill, offers an amazing view of Dubrovnik.

In Šibenik you can buy a very nice jewelry made from Šibenik’s button, hollow beautifully ornamented peace with beads and threads.
