Avio is built as a supporting structure: a steel truss fitted with ‘fingers’ to support seats, backrests and tables. This framework transforms into a flexible system that can give rise to an almost endless number of benches, two and three seat sofa, chais longues and tabletops.
Avio è costruito come struttura portante: una trave in acciaio munita di ‘dita’ a sorreggere sedute, schienali, tavolini. Questo impianto si traduce in un sistema flessibile che può dar luogo a panche, due posti, tre posti, chaise longue, piani d’appoggio, in una sequenza praticamente infinita.
Avio est construit comme une structure porteuse: deux profilés en acier munis de traverses soutiennent les assises, les dossiers et les tablettes. Cette base constitue un système flexible pouvant se décliner dans un nombre illimité de banquettes, canapés deux, trois places, méridiennes et tables d’appoint intégrées.
Avio ist wie ein modulares System aufgebaut: ein Stahlbalken mit ‚Fingern’, die Sitzflächen, Rückenlehnen und Sofatische tragen. “Initially, I wasn’t thinking of a sofa. I started by designing a structure, like an engineer would do with an aeroplane or an architect with a building. I then took it to the extreme, reducing it to the bare essentials, thinking of the aesthetics and the comfort, which are of primary importance in an object aimed at spaces for people. I wanted something that would fuse form, line and function in a fundamental manner. Avio was born: an object that contains a technological soul. The way in which Avio appears, accommodates and is felt, springs from there.” Piero Lissoni
“Au départ, je ne pensais pas à un canapé. J’ai commencé par concevoir une structure, comme un ingénieur le ferait pour un avion ou un architecte pour un bâtiment. Je l’ai ensuite réduite à l’extrême pour ne garder que l’essentiel en termes d’esthétique et de confort, deux aspects incontournables pour tout objet destiné à l’espace humain. J’ai cherché à fusionner la forme, la ligne et la fonction de manière essentielle. C’est ainsi qu’est né Avio, un objet habité par une âme technologique. La façon dont Avio se présente, dont il est perçu et dont il accueille vient de là, de cette âme.”

Poi l’ho portata all’estremo, riducendola ai minimi termini, pensando all’estetica e al comfort che in un oggetto destinato a spazi umani sono elementi vitali. Volevo qualcosa che in modo essenziale fondesse forma, linea, funzione. È nato Avio: un oggetto in cui abita un’anima tecnologica. Il modo in cui Avio appare, accoglie e si percepisce nasce da lì, da lei.”
“Zu Beginn habe ich nicht an ein Sofa gedacht. Ich habe mit dem Entwurf einer Struktur begonnen. Dann habe ich sie bis ins Extreme geführt und auf das Minimum reduziert. Dabei dachte ich an Ästhetik und Komfort, die wesentlichen Elemente eines Objekts, das für menschliche Räume bestimmt ist. Ich wollte etwas, das auf ganz essentielle Weise Form, Linie und Funktion in sich vereint. Und so entstand Avio: ein Objekt, in dem eine technologische Seele wohnt. Die Art und Weise, auf die Avio erscheint, aufnimmt und wahrgenommen wird, entsteht von hier aus.”

“I often think of the objects I design, as I do of the classics: Instances distinguished by discretion and equilibrium. And my work involves perfecting them, for example in terms of proportions and details: a search to improve the aesthetics and functionality. I imagined this family of seats as noble objects that would be increasingly appreciated with the passage of time. A little like a tailor-made suit that acquires more elegance the more it is worn. For this collection I wanted to create tailor-made beauty that could be perceived in the quality of the handcrafting and the particulars.” Marc Krusin
“J’envisage souvent les objets que je conçois comme des classiques, c’est-à-dire des présences qui se distinguent par leur discrétion et leur équilibre. Et mon travail consiste à les perfectionner, par exemple en travaillant les proportions et les détails, dans une recherche visant à améliorer leur esthétique et leur fonctionnalité. J’ai imaginé cette gamme de sièges comme des objets nobles qu’on apprécierait de plus en plus au fil du temps, un peu comme un vêtement sur mesure qui gagne son élégance en étant porté. Pour cette collection, j’ai voulu créer une beauté sur mesure, perceptible à travers la qualité des fabrications et des détails.”
“Spesso mi capita di pensare agli oggetti che progetto come a dei classici: presenze che si distinguono per discrezione ed equilibrio. E il mio lavoro consiste nel perfezionarli, per esempio nelle proporzioni e nei dettagli: una ricerca per migliorare estetica e funzionalità. Ho immaginato questa famiglia di sedute come oggetti nobili, sempre più apprezzabili con il passare del tempo. Un po’ come un abito di sartoria che, indossandolo, acquisisce eleganza. Per questa collezione ho voluto creare una bellezza su misura, percepibile nel pregio delle lavorazioni e dei particolari.”
“Es passiert mir oft, die Objekte, die ich entwerfe, als Klassiker zu erdenken: Wesen, die sich durch ihre Diskretion und Ausgewogenheit hervorheben. Und meine Arbeit besteht darin, sie zu perfektionieren, zum Beispiel was die Proportionen und die Details anbelangt: eine Recherche zur Verbesserung von Ästhetik und Funktionalität. Ich habe mir diese SitzmöbelLinie als edle Objekte vorgestellt, die man im Laufe der Zeit immer mehr zu schätzen lernt. Ein bisschen wie einen maßgeschneiderten Anzug, der beim Tragen Eleganz erwirbt. Für diese Kollektion wollte ich eine maßgeschneiderte Schönheit schaffen, die in den kostbaren Verarbeitungen und in den Einzelheiten wahrnehmbar ist.”

This collection associates restrained and compact forms with a comfortable and generous seat. The result is a congenial and harmonious object available in three versions: a simple chair, a small armchair with low armrests and another small armchair with a formfitting backrest. The embedded structure is available in die-cast aluminum or solid ash with a variety of finishes. The cover can be chosen from the Knoll range of leathers and velvet, wool and cotton fabrics.
La collection associe des formes compactes et toutes en retenue avec une assise confortable et généreuse. Il en résulte un objet agréable et harmonieux proposé en trois versions : une chaise simple, un petit fauteuil avec accoudoirs bas et un autre petit fauteuil au dossier enveloppant. La structure intégrée est disponible en fonte d’aluminium ou en frêne massif dans différentes finitions. Le revêtement est à choisir dans la gamme Knoll de cuirs et de tissus en velours, laine et coton.
A forme contenute e compatte la collezione associa una seduta comoda e generosa. Il risultato è un oggetto amichevole e armonioso, proposto in tre versioni: semplice seduta, poltroncina con braccioli bassi, poltroncina con schienale avvolgente. La struttura è disponibile in pressofusione di alluminio oppure in massello di frassino in diverse finiture. Il rivestimento può essere scelto nella gamma Knoll di pelli e tessuti in velluto, lana, cotone.
Die Kollektion verbindet verhaltene, kompakte Formen mit einer bequemen und großzügigen Sitzfläche. Das Ergebnis ist ein und harmonisches Objekt, das in drei Versionen angeboten wird: einfacher Sessel, Stuhl mit niedrigen Armlehnen, Stuhl mit umhüllender Rückenlehne.
