Eco-Living Complex: High-Rise Tower Residential- commercial Design studio course

The goal of this project is to create a sustainable environment for

the residents of the tower which will affect the way

of people living with an outstanding difference. The elegant, unique, and strong form of the tower grows organically to create its own shadow. Therefore the south-east corner of the building is higher, providing shade to the offices and terraces. The project has been designed with the objective of constructing an entertainment zone containing a swimming pool and an observation deck, on the top of the tower. The design controls the light amount with its bio-facade. The dynamic stainless-steel panels acting as a sunshade system and as a wind catcher. The cells open and close throughout the day controlling and diffusing sunlight while maintaining the view. Green panels are located vertically to filter the air.

Wasp Nest: Research Innovation and Marketing Center

Design studio course

The Research, Innovation, and Marketing Project (RIM) is located

as the core of a techno valley linking between different important

youth and business facilities via a diagonal corridor named as the (Galleria Corridor). The RIM project aspires to play a major role in offering a supportive environment for youth in Saudi Arabia enhancing their abilities and developing their skills to experience achievement. The biomimicry design of the project locates it partly underground simulating the buried nest of wasp insect. This behavior is reduced energy consumption in the building by reducing heat. On the other hand, the building of the RIM center mimics the performance of wasp insect when it starts the nest with few cells getting larger by the workers. The futuristic plugged in units (The creativity cells) that could be added when needed function as a commercial/ creativity core.

The Arwadian House: A house for Jane Jacobs Residential- Urban Design studio course

When Jane Jacobs decides to live in a house of her, The Arwadian

One month project

House can be her choice. This project is a story that describes the

Individual work

house of Jane Jacobs that is designed based on her principle. Eyes on the street, cities are for and from people, and engaging strangers are the key rules for designing this house. Arwad is an island in Syria that is 15 minutes away from Tartus by boat. This island is known by the social community and the vernacular urban fabric which makes it the best place for someone to believe in social connectivity. The project is located in the island’s market, the most social place, and the gate of Arwad. The design proposes a program that depends heavily on the social activities Jane Jacobs can share people with. This program includes; common dining area, swimming area, meditation garden, guists courtyard, and sleeping and writing zones. These functions reconnected by bridges for two reasons. First, having elevated buildings adds a new level to the cit while keeping the original market preserved. Second, bridging is one of the methods for the house’s expansion in the Islamic vernacular architecture.

The Arwadian House: A house for Jane Jacobs Residential- Urban Jane prepares tea with all love, adding the dry leaves, imagining the people’s determination and endeavor, and the effect of time and the hard life. Yet, when she adds the water, she watches it extracting the best taste from each one of the leaves and mixing them, the same effect of social connectivity. The long the tea leaves stay in the water, the strong the flavor gets. And as a definite destiny, tea seeps out as we all to get separated at the end. Yet, we gather again. This part of the story explains the design of a teapot that is used for preparing one of the most social drinks. This drink is served in the courtyard and the dining area.

Co-housing Residential- commercial Design studio course

The project is inspired by the historical urban fabric in the Mid-

One semester project

dle East that provides contrasting feelings.

Individual work

The narrow roads in the district-scale provide peaceful yet uneasy emotions. while the wide-open social spaces of the courtyards on the building scale produce a vibrant and vivid yet relaxing sensation. These two complex integrated spatial practices provide one coherent unique place. The Co-housing project is designed as a human experience changing building that takes the users through a special journey of sequential narrow - spacious spaces with dramatically light changes. The start of the emotional triggering point is the mood splitting point of the narrow entrance that leads to the opposite spacious courtyard. The narrow corridors leading to the rest of the building spaces complete that volatile journey to end up in the most relaxing spacious spaces of the residential units, the playground, or the indoor garden. The form is generated in a way that benefits from the existing greenery and locates a courtyard in the center as a link between the garden and entrance. 14

The project has been designed to provide a comfortable place to achieve and inspire. The form has been designed with a wind catcher reached throughout the diagonal penetrating mass. Besides, the atriums act as both: a thermal controller and a social space side by with the plaza surrounding the building. The second option of design provides a smooth, refreshing, and elegant envelope. Wave-like sunshade, derived from Jeddah sea waves.

The Light Being: Hims City Center Reconstruction

Capstone design thesis

This project is dedicated to the happy endings, we might not witness but

One semester project

we are part of its making.

Individual work

The story of struggling Himsi people started a long time before the war. They have fought for their identity, belonging, and pride. The Light Being Project takes Himsi people through The Path of Distortion cutting through Homs past showing the accountable disasters, occupations, and the neglect the city faced. The Homsi transform to the identity, hope, and future shines as they go through The Identity Path till they glimpse it in the Light Being Culture Center. Starting with the solidity of the culture center’s form passing through the transparency and the reflection of its site ending up in the light spot inside, the Himsis will be guided to find what they have been searching for. From within, pride, hope, and confidence will rise.
