Preface I first met Rakesh at Rhodes Youth Forum in Rhodes, Greece in October 2012.He was a presenter just as I am and was presenting his projects under the theme of Enhancing Quality of Life. As a person he was not the most talkative person but never the less we became acquaintances very soon. He had very calm features for a youngster something I admired as we got to know each other. At the end of the forum his project won two-million Indian rupee grant and was awarded as one of the best projects presented. Only one month later we met again in a different place under different circumstances. That was the South Asian Youth Forum in November 2012,in Islamabad, Pakistan .There introduced his organization, projects initiated by it and how he has developed his business while ensuring his products contribute to the betterment of the people and the environment.

As I’ve gotten to know him I realized the importance of entrepreneurship and the inspiration that I gathered from him would be the root for my case study. I hope this study of his entrepreneurial path would encourage the aspiring Entrepreneurs in my country as well as give them directions in their path of becoming successful business leaders.
Early life of Rakesh Biswas and Beginning of the Entrepreneual Journey

Rakesh is the older child of two in the family. His sibling is the younger brother who is 3 years younger to him. He comes from a Military background where apart from his father many in the family are members of Indian Army. They live in Calcutta The childhood environment of growing up in the Military quarters gave him the directionality of how to lead a disciplined life. The importance of valuing the parent’s efforts to nourishing a family was well understood by him. That contentment was the driving factor for him to become an entrepreneur and a citizen concerned about the environment in many aspects. He had completed his studies from ARMY PUBLIC SCHOOL, Pithoragarh . His major exposure of talent began with the Winning of Bourn vita quiz contest 2006, there after back to back opportunities came into in his life and participating in various science events in India at state and national level exhibitions. In little year time he had already developed a Rain water harvesting system in national children science congress it gave him an eminent exposure to his life, Later on designed a model of HYDRO AIR CAR a car which can run in air, water and land ) .It give him proper attention of media coverage and attention of people regarding his innovative nature and attracted many awards regarding that project.
After receiving admission to Graphic Era university, Dehradun in b-tech biotechnology , his major achievements took lead with the beginning of magnetic engine (a first perceptual machine in india) and soon a patent for this invention was filed in IPR India , Following this success he applied as a tepp under DST program and it turned out to be one of the major milestones in his success story. As a student of Biotech Engineering he developed a engine related to mechanical branch. There was much controversy causing in his college regarding this engine. But he didn’t lose his hope and gave his all in developing that engine. Eventually his work a lot of attention to the University and he managed to overcome all the negative views about his approach from many a people around him. He proposed his invention for the provisional patents and he obtained it in most deserving manner. There after many of the reputed universities in India and abroad has been calling him as a delegate or a speaker for the international conferences .It was his time to spread his message around the globe.Further he got the chance expose of his inventions to science enthusiasts all around the world. Following this inspiration he has initiated many projects related to environmental science and technology. Projects such as electricity production from factory smoke, waste battery technology , Piezo effects of materials and several others. Presently He has published 12 international and national research papers and one provisional patent and 6 applied patents .He has presented in front of the groups from many reputed universities all around the world like University of London, University of Malaysia , Indian Institute of Technology-New Delhi , Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee. Formation of IYSERT India He had the passion to create awareness about the renewable technology and establishment of research and development units among the youth in India. In order to do that he took the initiative of forming an organization in an environment where not many people were interested in neither environment preservation nor clean energy production. Through his innovative ideas and controversial inventions he has managed to convince many people around him especially youth to join hands with him. His organization has a board comprising of the student leaders from his college and has a well-established structure to continue in to the future. They have introduced many environmental initiatives with the capacity to generate income while preserving the environment.

He became the Winner Of Best Suggested Project award for India among 120 nations in Rhodes youth forum 2012, Rhodes, Greece and won Rs. 20 lakhs as awarding money for project Implementation. Further Best Entrepreneur of India Story Covered by Heroes Foundation, India in 2011.

Rakesh Biswas as a Youth Leader
He acts as the Youth Coordinator for India in the Earth Day Network based In USA .Further contributes as a School Mentor under the theme of Design for Change, Where he assists Development of Science and technology Projects for the school level and helping and motivate the student.
He is an advisor for the recently concluded International Youth Forum in New Delhi, India providing Advice on the Environmental Problems and solve the problems and Development Of technology. Also works as Change agent in India youth alliance, Kanpur , Uttar Pradesh, India Helping the rural Sector by Renewable technologies and help for creating awareness programme and the Project Coordinator of the Think Green Project, Cairgo , Egypt. Development of biogas plant in Cairo, Egypt. Project is conducted under AIESEC.
Challenges in Rakesh Biswas’s success story In comparison peoples attitude towards entrepreneurship attitude in India is similar to Sri Lanka. For an aspiring entrepreneur hardest task is to get financial support to develop his/her products. It has been the same for Rakesh Biswas .Even though his ideas are fresh and innovative there were no one that came forward to invest in him. But fortunately his family stood by him in the hour of need. Up to now his parents have funded many projects led bu Rakesh. The negative views of people towards new creations . For example the controversy related to the Engine created by Rakesh. ‘When an entrepreneur steps out with a great initiative there are many parties who would intervene to discourage you’ says Rakesh. Such negative impacts can only be overcome by proving your success. That is an important message delivered to youth through his story.

Developer of Environmental Technology, Eco friendly and renewable technology The environment protection is something we talk about since grade one. But how many of the youth are really concerned about investing their entrepreneurial ides on an environmentally friendly path? This is one of the rare examples as such.
Business Entrepreneur While being concerned about environment Rakesh has established a functioning business unit to generate money and thereby providing Employment. At the moment there are about 85 personnel working under him.
Policy maker He has invested much time in academia. Utilizing his research as a tool to create a set of polizies that suits his community.
Idea Generator He is always hungry for ideas. Looking at every angle in order to establish a new network. Perusing each thought so that eventually it turns in to an idea that can be implemented in a future or existing project.
Inventor He owns several inventions of his own and has seven patents up to now.
Technology Developer He has worked in several particular areas of technology Potential of Starch and citric acid for generation of Electric power Potential of piezo electric for Generation of Eco Electric Power Innovation of spring technology speed breakers Electricity produce from smoke Waste Battery Technology
Future thinker Most importantly he has a vision for the future. That is to see India flourish with generation of renewable energy. Furthermore he intends to establish self-research and development units in schools in India to enhance the thinking and innovation of the youth. Apart from being an entrepreneur himself he has put efforts to promote entrepreneurship parallel to his work. This is a rare feature we see in young entrepreneurs today. He has published several papers addressing important aspects of entrepreneurship. Such as,

Biswas theory on knowledge distribution system As an individual he is patriotic and when acting in a group very diplomatic. This is an essential quality for an entrepreneur. Most of the entrepreneurs today identify themselves as ‘individuals’ but this is not really the case. Unless an entrepreneur is going to accept that he is also a part of the community his/her solutions however technically advanced they are would be of no use.
